No installation disk and really really struggling !!!

Hi guys,

Just bought Xbox 360 hd player off ebay, but no installation disk.

I have been looking over the forums all day and connecting / disconnecting / trying to download sw / connect through live, etc,etc,etc... to my Xbox 360.

I am not getting it to recognise the connection. I have an Xbox live account, but cannot find how to install the player or whatever I need to do. When I connect up, because I have disconnected the wireless hub and reconnected in the dvd player, it won't connect to live.

I have also tried connecting the player to my laptop via the usb, but it isn't recognising. Do I need to plug in or will it just connect via usb ???

Can anybody PLEASE help me with an idiots guide how to do it, as it is serioulsly doing my head in !!!

Cheers,, Steve.

Re: No installation disk and really really struggling !!!

Hi
If you can connect to the internet via the 360 just plug in the HD-DVD Drive via usb connect the power and switch on the Xbox and when you login to live it should download the required files to the Drive. The 360 should recognize the HD Drive as soon as you plug it in and power it on, mine did and I do not have an installation disc, in fact I have a back-up HD-DVD drive that has no PSU or usb cable and when I connected it using the original drive cables it was recognized right away. If the drive is powering on ok then there should be no probs.

Re: No installation disk and really really struggling !!!

Thanks for your reply Douigie.

I have connected the dvd drive via the supplied usb cable into one of the usb slots on the front of the 360.

When I switch the 360 on it connects to live, but can't see anywhere that the dvd drive is automatically recognised.

When you say 'connect to the internet', do I need to do anything on the 360 to connect to the net or is that the same as connecting to live ??? !!!

Sorry about sounding a bit thick, but only really used it for a bit of gaming and not much else, but I know that I have got Gold live connection !!!

Do I need to play a hd dvd in the player to activate, as I have tried that but nothing happens. Also, when I try to use the supplied dvd controller, it appears to operate the 360 rather than the dvd player...

Been playing about with it all day, and doing my head in !!! Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Steve.

Re: No installation disk and really really struggling !!!

Hi Steve

I have my drive connected at the rear of the 360 but it should work on the front ones as well. Have you checked in system setting under memory. The drive should show up in there after you hard drive (I take it you have a 360 hard drive), if not that could be the problem. If it is not showing go to initial set -up and try setting the 360 up again with the HD-DVD Drive still connected. If that does not work I'm at a loss.

Re: No installation disk and really really struggling !!!

Many thanks for your replies again guys.

Yep, power connected to player so disk drawer opens ok.

Tried looking into memory and only shows hard drive on there, so player not showoing up. I did also try the initial setup again but still not recognising it.

I have tried connecting to my laptop to see if recognised and it doesn't show up. As I say, I have mains power to it so I know this isn't the problem.

I assume I will have to contact ebay / seller for refund as sounds faulty to me !!! ???

Cheers, Steve.

Hi Steve

I would certainly contact the seller & Ebay as the drive should be recognized by the 360 and your Laptop (even if you cannot use it) There are 2 boards in the drive enclosure 1, The power and USB connection board and a board on the HD-DVD drive itself which connects to the power board. I had a faulty power/USB board on my original drive which I replaced and have had no problems since. It may be that the USB chip is not functioning as you are able to open/close the drive drawer.
Hope you achieve a satisfactory result in the end.

Re: No installation disk and really really struggling !!!

As I understand it guys, the Xbox HD DVD rom is a plug and play device HD DVD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
It doesn't offer as much information as I would like but here offers more Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player on PC - VideoHelp.com.
I would assume you have a faulty ROM, contact the seller and send the Lynch mob around, or the footie fanatics, what ever tickles your fancy..
1 more thing, try a different USB cable..

I think it has to be plugged into the rear port for it to recognize. I am not sure why. I think I remember reading this in the manual. Try the rear port and see if that fixes it.

Mine works fine in the front ports, and plays movies just fine. Its also recognised and installed as a HD-DVD player by both Windows Vista and Windows 7 with no additional drivers needed.
