XBOX HD DVD player question

I have a Toshiba HD player and just bought an XBOX Microsoft HD player add-on from someone as a back-up in case the Toshiba dies (I have about 100 hd discs).
With all the RROD problems I keep reading about, I'm looking for an alternative to buying an XBOX. Can anyone tell me if I can just plug the HD player into my amp or do I have to have an XBOX or computer to be able to run it? Any opinions?

Thanks,
Kane

Re: XBOX HD DVD player question

you can connect it to a pc, or use a 360, itll work both ways.

but for the pc use, you need a certain version(or lower) of dvd playback software.

search the forum, and youll find more info on it.

Re: XBOX HD DVD player question

I have spent the last 2 days trying to get this to work

Could not get it to go on Desktop or Laptop.

Video cards are both HDCP compliant. I finally figured out my desktop Samsung 740N monitor was not.

But i have to assume the laptop is (since the video card is)

Tried Win DVD platinum 8 and Power Dvd 6.5, 7, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3. and even Nero 8.
I just gave up in the end, wasted 2 whole days. Also tried it with and without Any DVD HD edition. Nothing.

The player is recognised perfectly, and when you press play the disc spins but no picture or sound - Then it locks up.

Running Vista on the Laptop and XP on the desktop.

Suggestions.
