Picture keeps going black for a split second

I've had my drive since it was released and thankfully it has been problem free, until recently.

I was watching Transformers last week and throughout the film the picture would randomly go black for a split second and on some occasions the drives 360 splash screen would briefly appear instead of it going black.

I've since deleted all the contents of the add-ons hard drive and tried Transformers again, but it is still doing it. This is the first HD DVD I've watched since the NXE was released.

Has anybody else had a similar problem?

I've had exactly this problem and from the sound of this thread here, other have too:

Andy Pennell's Blog : Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive: General Troubleshooting

It appears to be a problem affecting disks using the H.264 codec only.

Thanks.

The strange thing is, I've watched Transformers a few times on the 360 without any problems.

Re: Picture keeps going black for a split second

As far as anyone can tell it's only been a problem since the NXE was introduced.

Re: Picture keeps going black for a split second

I imagine the chances of MS patching it are slim.

Re: Picture keeps going black for a split second

i dont even think they will be aware of it.
probably too busy realising that the NXE was flawed, as they look to release a new dash later this year.
send major nelson a message, see what he says..

Re: Picture keeps going black for a split second

I started getting the whole HDCP errors yesterday with "Transformers HD"

Never had a problem before (the last year or so)

Have watched Matrix HD (1 and 2), Blade Runner HD (workprint and Final Cut) after the NXE update and have not had any problems.

Have not tried any other HD movies since yesterdays problem with "Transformers HD"

Will watch some this afternoon and post back if i am still having problems.

Question Re: Picture keeps going black for a split second

Has anybody noticed if the HD DVD add-on is still suffering this problem, being as we've had a dash update or two since this thread started? (The latest one is happening on 17 November for those not in the current Update Preview.)

That sounds exactly like the problem i'm experiencing with my copy of beowulf.

Beowulf HD-DVD problems :(

I'll try my Transformers disc... (haven't watched it since the NXE update)

Yep, transformers suffers from exactly the same stuttering.

I know for sure this title worked perfectly fine when I bought it, so it looks like one of the 360 firmware updates between then & now has broken whatever it is that Beowulf & Transformers uses.

Presumably there are other titles that are broken too?

I know HD DVDs have stopped being produced, but I think it's poor that Microsoft will not spare a little bit of their time and resource to fix this issue for those of us that invested in their product (I pre-ordered my add-on) and have decided to keep their HD DVDs, especially as it was one of their own updates that has caused the issue (it looks like it was the initial NXE release). Personally, this problem annoys me enough that I don't want to watch any HD DVDs on the 360.
