Revamped Classics

After experiencing Halo Anniversary Edition, I realise it was worth every penny. I love this game anyway and know it inside out, but to play it with it's modifications was a real treat.

I would often think how good it would be to see some of the older games brought back in the same way Halo was.

I hope LucasArts is paying attention. Would love to see the StarWars Battlefront games receive the same treatment.

Will we start seeing other old classics returning with a fresh lick of paint?

Discuss..

Cheers

Si

Playstation has been doing this for a while now, releasing all their old games in HD goodness.
The problem with xbox is they dont really have any old games to revamp, it would be pointless to remake gears of war or something

If were talking about 3rd party games its a bit tricky as it all depends on the developer. Activision has proven with goldeneye that you cant rely purely on a sense of nostalgia to make a good game.

Saying that, i would love to see an updated version of all the old Resident Evil games.
Imagine a remake of the first 3 Resi games with updated HD graphics and a Dead Space control scheme, i would be in gaming heaven.

I think there's definitely a market for doing this. I've never found a good enough equivalent to Need For Speed Underground 2, for example, and would love to see the developers bring this one back. This is just my choice and I've sure there are tons of people out there wishing the same of their favorites.

These are all just wish lists, but is there any indication out there that other developers will follow what has been done with Halo?

I totally agree with you, theres definitely a market for it. But i think the developers just need to stick religiously to the source material.
The reason Goldeneye didnt work is that its nothing at all like the original game and we ended up with yet another COD clone with the Goldeneye name slapped onto it.

Ive never played Halo Anniversary (im not a Halo fan to be fair), but ive heard that its very faithful to the original, which is a good thing.

Absolutely, and this is my point. It's the gameplay that attracts me to the old games. They kept that in Halo and that was perfect. Also you could flick between the original and updated graphics at anytime to compare. Very cleverly thought out.

Some games are best left as fond memories like Golden Eye on the N64. I didn't like the demo of the game as it didn't really impress me that much to warrant a purchase. But then this is Activision who don't really push the boat when it comes to graphical advances

But then this goes back to that discussion in the PS3 forums which touches upon would you play ps2 games if the ps3 had backwards compatibility? Or would you be happy to purchase a HD release of the game?

How about a Resident Evil 1,2,3, Code Veronica X and 4 totaly re-done like Halo with out touching the story( Talking about the gamecube added elements yick). Personally my favourite RE's are the first 4, I know the controlls and camera's are awkward but I just loved the suspense and the story. Don't get me wrong 4 and 5 are good games but they just don't have the same feeling that made me fall in love with the series, puzzles where you had to think.

Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X were already revamped in HD and are available on Xbox Live. They're not the best ports from what I've read, but the user ratings on Live are very good.

Resident Evil 4 - Xbox.com
RESIDENT EVIL CODE: Veronica X - Xbox.com

well for a start, they can port over bloody Strangers Wrath! No idea why PS3 owners got it in HD but xbox owners havent yet!
Personally im looking forward to the Devil May Cry collection. Silent Hill one i would hve liked if it had contained 2 3 and 4 at least.
But from the original Xbox, games id like to see remade are:

Call Of Cthulhu
Dreamfall The Longest Journey

Other than that id love to see a collection of Onimusha titles remade into HD, and what about the Fatal Frame series?

Rallisport Challenge 2? Still hasn't been bettered IMO so a HD revamp would be amazing!

Jet Set Radio Future
Project Gotham Racing (the first 2)
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Amped
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X
Armed & Dangerous
GunValkyrie

There's plenty of good games that either only came out on Xbox or only came out on Xbox and PC.

Ill give you Jet Set Radio and Star Wars, they were great games with a possible market for a remake.
But i dont think the others are well known enough for a remake to be feasible, they would only sell to the hardcore.

Also, did you know that a Tony Hawk 1&2 HD remake is coming out this year? Unfortunately its not got the same soundtrack, which is a shame.
Should still be good though, especially if its got online multiplayer! Ill be having some monster HORSE sessions.

There may be some good news on the strangers wrath front.

Just add water have been doing some work on it, they have used newer codecs too reduce the audio file size and lowered the cgi cut scenes slightly and the games total file size now sits at 1.95 gb's.

They are hoping that this will now pass certification for xbla

For me it really depends on the effort the developer is willing to put into the port. Look at SEGA. Top class conversions of Daytona USA, Outrun and Sonic CD. You wouldn't believe this is the same company that puts out the shoddy conversions on Sonic 1,2,3,3+K. Don't even get me started on the "Dreamcast Collection"
If they ain't gonna put any effort in, I ain't even gonna look let alone buy.

So whilst im assuming there is a 2GB limit for XBLA content, why dont they just not release it on there but release it in tact under the games on demand list? I mean Resi 4, Rest Code Veronica and Crysis are made available this way and im pretty sure they are well over the 2GB limit. I dont see why they cant just release it that way instead

Yeah man, I can't wait to give that a go. I used to play it a lot when it first came out. I'm glad they had the sense to do something like this instead of releasing another one of those awful Tony Hawk Ride games!

I was disappointed that the PS3 got the xbox1 Splinter Cell games in a HD collection. I know they are backward compatible on the 360 and a Chaos Theory is on the marketplace, but a full remake with cheevos would have been brilliant.

Would love Thief to get a current gen make over, but leaving out the steam robot nonsense this time. And, at the risk of getting an erection, I would kill for Elite to be brought bang up to date too

Elite Plus is the nearest thing out there at the moment (I think). Really surprised that this hasn't been jumped on.

Agreed, it'd be an awesome game! There were also the X: Final Frontier games which mirrored Elite quite a bit - I played the first on the PC. I'd be quite interested in a mmorpg in an Elite universe, even if it was on the next gen of consoles.
