Help trying to find a game

Hi everyone :D

I’m new to the forum so just want to say a quick hello to all the forum members. Also if I made a mistake by placing this thread in the wrong section then apologies.

I was hoping some of the most experienced xbox users could help out a father here please. Well basically I’m new to the Xbox scene and I bought my son a xbox 360 Elite console with a few games last week. He absolutely loves the console but there is a slight problem as he is after some type of racing go kart game.

What has actually happened is he owned a Nintendo wii before the Xbox and he didn’t want it anymore so I decided to sell the Nintendo wii, his favourite game was Mario kart Wii and he was totally addicted to playing that on-line until he grew out of it. He feels a little bit upset at the moment because he wants to play a go-kart game so could someone recommend the best kart game I can get for him? Ideally I would prefer it to be as similar to the Mario Kart as possible so would like to be cartoony rather than realistic and it should be available to play to be Xbox Live. I know on the psp he had games like pac man racing and shrek racing which were similar but anything I can get for the Xbox I would love it.

I know it’s kind of a stupid question but I would really appreciate as I don’t like seeing him upset. : (

Thanks people.

I don't think the 360 has a game anything like Mario Kart, however - for pick up and play fun suitable for the lad (you didn't mention his age) the game I think he might enjoy would be Burnout Paradise.

No go karts as such but lots of fantasy vehicles and an open world to explore at your leisure - lots of online stuff to do and he might enoy the "toy car" add-on pack.

Not sure there are any go-kart games on Xbox 360, you could try Pure or Dirt 2 etc

I was thinking of quad bike games like Pure & MX Vs ATV but both are quite hard and I didn't the poor lad giving up through frustration, which I why I suggested BP as he can free-roam and not do any events at all if he didn't want to - there'd be plenty to keep him occupied with looking for the short cuts, billboards and super-jumps - and the 500 online challenges should keep him out of mischief for a while... and you can pick it the ultimate box version (including a party mode so you play together) for under £20 these days too.

Go Karts are one thing thats missing from the 360 as far as I know.

Crash Nitro Kart was quite good for the original xbox, don't know if it would work on the 360 though.

Edit; it does appear on the xbox.com backwards compatability list so should work

I would get Pure, although not cartooney, it is great fun and can be bought new for less than £10.... so not much of a gamble if he doesn't like it. Great racing, huge jumps, excellent and easy to pull off stunts and amazing graphics... what more could you need...?

MS actually bought the studio developing it so i guess they have high hopes for it

I would go for Pure until Joyride comes out.

Pure isn't a cartoony racer and you can't do things like drop banana peels and throw shells at other racers but it is a fun ATV racer that lets you do tricks and earn boosts to use in races. It has online racers but last time I tried to play online there wasn't much activity but they are doing a bundle with that game now so the online on it might pick up. You can download the Pure demo from Xbox Live here.

If boosting and car crashing carnage are what your looking for then Burnout Paradise is also a worthwhile look, again it's not got a cartoon style and doesn't have the power up style stuff of Mario Kart but it's a fun arcade style racer with some cool looking cars and an active online community. On top of that the developers have really supported it by adding tons of extra content for the game, some free and some paid for. There is a (paid for) downloadable content pack that allows you to buy cartoon looking cars. You can download the Burnout Paradise Demo from Xbox Live here.

There are also a few Xbox Live Arcade games that might be what your looking for, I haven't played them but the descriptions sound like they maybe what you are after. Xbox Live Marketplace for Racing has games like GripShift and Mad Tracks (both should have demos and allow you to buy the full game online). Both the games I mentioned have paid for expansion packs but the standard full games are 800MS points which I think is about £7 (but you buy points in packs so you'll probably have to pay more for more points).
