What's your top 5 (12+ and under) games?

Hi,

Looking at getting some games for my son but want to steer away from bad language, violence I can live with but nothing too grapgic however I feel it best to stick at this age level.

So what new and old games can you rec that fill that criteria?

Thanks
J

Re: What's your top 5 (12+ and under) games?

Off the top of the head, I think a good half or more of my games are suitable viewing for under 12s. Partly because I like things like Lego: Star Wars and Katamari, but it's rare to see a driving or sports game that isn't. So I'd probably pick...

Burnout Paradise
Lego: Star Wars
Carcassonne
Trials HD
Rock Band 2

Guitar Heros/Rock Bands are dubbed so anything like that would be ok?

Re: What's your top 5 (12+ and under) games?

My lad loves the Lego games, good fun playing together on two player too.

He also loves Burnout Paradise, a great pick up and play game, he's spent far too long on this!

I recently played Star Wars Clone Wars with him which is similar to the Lego games - a good 2 player experience.

The other game he keeps going back to is Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.

All these games are well suitable and fun for 9-12 y o.

Can't believe how some parents let their kids play anything. I know plenty of 11-12 year olds who spend their lives on COD, Halo, Gears! Crazy.

I wouldn't say Halo was very bad for an 11 year old, possibly if I had an 11 year old I would object but don't think there's anything too OTT in Halo? Definitely nothing worse in those games than there was in the first Robocop film and I mind watching that a fair few times in primary school *EDIT* Not actually in primary school, just while I was that age lol

I think you watched a different Robocop film to me, then. Mine had to be resubmitted to the MPAA in order to avoid an NC-17 rating.

It was an 18 release over here, was a VHS copy I watched not the actual cinema release, don't think they would've let a 4-year-old me through back then lol

Yeah, if you compare the Criterion version to what was on the UK VHS, there's just a few bits missing...

I'm confused! Lol (has the criterion version got all the missing bits or the UK VHS?) and sorry for hijacking a thread

Viva Pinata is another good one but not the easiest to get into. And the music makes me want to hurt things after a while. Arcade games are good, generally not over 12's I don't think, there may be the odd one or two but most of them are ok, I'd check out some of them and see if your child is into any of them

Re: What's your top 5 (12+ and under) games?

My seven year old niece loves

Tomb Raider, although i try to avoid levels with too much shooting, wish they hadn't felt it was a requirement to put guns in as apart from that its a great game for kids. Surprisingly she has no problems with the controls either.

Night At the Museum 2, although its a little too involved with the controls for her.

Beautiful Katamari

Guitar Hero - although i have to do the strumming

Yeah, sorry - the UK VHS is rather heavily cut in comparison to Verhoeven's initial ratings submission, which is what is on my Criterion Laserdisc, and I think MGM now sell in the US more generally.

You're right about Arcade titles, too, to come back on topic - I seem to spend more time playing those than disc-based games.

Re: What's your top 5 (12+ and under) games?

Some excellent advice here... thanks so much, I'll keep watching in case someone thinks of something to add.

Robocop was a great film and I too saw it underage... felt the followups spoilt it, in a way like starship troopers.

Cheeers
