Do you buy games and not play them ?

I know I do !

In the last year, I have COD5, Quantium of solace, ufc 2009, fifa 10 unopened, all bought as they were cheap or on offer

and then today I order the cheap batman and smackdown vs raw 2010

why, as they were cheap !

My male logic is, its only 25quid, half a night out or no new clothes for a night out... and the price will never drop to that price pre owned for ages ( apart from you ufc.....)

I think I need to set up some sort of game playing time table to get through them !

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I don't own many games, so only buy the ones I want to play, then sell them when i'm finished with them.

Depends on how much you paid for the games you've mentioned, but I get the feeling unless you got a real bargain, games like COD5 and 007 are probably cheaper now..

COD5 is £25.99 at ShopTo
Quantum Of Solace is £11.73 at TheHut

Seems like your wasting money buying it and not playing it, i'm not critisizing, i'm sure I do it on other stuff (DVD's for example!)

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

hell yeah, well i used to, most just impulse bought when cheap and played for 5 mins before going back to my 'bread and butter' games. most of my 'shrapnel games' have been traded in/sold now though and im down to my 'essential' 30 games left

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

Yep i bought halo 3 odst, played it for about an hour, and hated every minute of it

I played shaun white til about halfway thru and havent touched it since, same with UFC Undisputed...... I still sometimes fire up burnout but i hate all the driving from race to race.

Its all about cod4 and gears of war 2 :D

Im currently trying to find someone to swap halo 3 odst with, its not happening tho

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

The max I paid for any of them was £25

Bond was abit of a loser as well over time... but that was due to not having seen the film, so had to see film first, which i waited for the blu ray off.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I'm pretty bad for buying games when they're cheap and never playing them; I still have Riddick, Infinite Undiscovery & Star Ocean sealed up from months ago, yet I've played all the way through Batman AA and Uncharted 2 in recent weeks.

yes, i've probably got about 60 still sealed and another 70 or so that i havent played.

This is an old image as the shelves are completely full and i've started another pile. Also quite a few limited editions are missing as well.. There's now 238 in total

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I don't do this, I've just spent quite a bit of money on a game, and I always play the game straight away, first thing I do when I get back from buying it.

Mind I'm in my early teens and getting money is like reading Lord of the Rings, it takes forever and after a while you get bored.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

Yeah I do it, my to play pile currently includes: dead space, cod2/3, prey, fifa10, assassains creed, batman AA, this list goes on.

I also have numerous xbla games to finish and dlc packs to work through (the lost and the damned still needs finishing and the ballad of gay tony comes out next week!).

I'm trying not to buy anymore games now until the end of the year (apart from forza and mw2, obviously) then hopefully I can complete a lot and get shut then build it all over again!

Reading the classifieds on here and hotukdeals regularly doesn't help though!

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

i am terrible for this, off the top of my head i have Riddick, Orange Box, Bioshock, The Darkness, Kane and Lynch, Kameo, Motorstorm PR, Resistance FOM, Fallout 3 GOTYE.....all either still in shrink wrap or played for 5 mins as taster for things to come once i finish what i am currently playing....

I really need to make it a resolution to get through what i have before i get anything else as by the time i have got through my 30+ game collection the ones i want now will be cheap as chips.....

I am currently playing a lot of Forza 2 but its like and RPG with cars - god knows how many hours i have poured into it. Nearly finished now though, about 9 events left spread over 2 race groups and level 48 driver......

i daren't get Forza 3 yet!!!!!!!

I now have close to 80 games on my shelf and a gamerscore of just under 18 thousand. Should explain itself really.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I used to do this quite a lot but have tried to cut down on it as i just end up playing COD games.... although i tend to open them and play them for a short period before going back to COD. So end up with loads of unfinished games on the shelf.

Only got 3 unfinished (Red Faction, Flashpoint & Oranage Box) and one unopened (Viva Pinata.... it was £5....) at the moment.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I've got a load of Gamecube and Original Xbox games that have never even been in the consoles. All bought because they were cheap, some of them were in the 4 for £10 offer in Gamestation so wasn't a huge amount spent.

I've been doing the same with the 360 too, some of them have still got the seal on them and i've had them for a year

It's nice having a selection to choose from for the rainy days though.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

All the time, i've recently traded a couple in without ever giving them more than five mins, luckily i made a couple of quid on most of them though.

NBA 2k9 - looked amazing - couldn't be arsed to learn the controls.

Tom Clancy's GRAW2 - again, couldn't be arsed with controls and prefer games like UT3 and COD4/5.

Probably going to get rid of Rainbow 6 v2, Banjo Kazooie, Halo 3 and something else i can't remember right now for the same reason.

Only just got around to playing GT: Tokyo Geneva on the PS2 - getting GT PSP has kicked me up the arse, i've had GT:TG for about 4 years now!

Told myself to stop buying anymore games as i just don't have the time to play these. PSP is now all legit - no point using dodgy games as you just don't value them as much so don't play through them. I've loads of Wii games which I just don't get around to playing. Been working on selling/trading most of my ps2 back catalogue too. Bought 4 for £10 at GS a while back but even that's a waste if you can't be arsed to play them - decent games like 'the getaway' and MGS too.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I think I am better now, but in 2008 I made quite a few impulse buys just because the games were cheap at the time.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Steelbook edition - bought for £17.99, and I have 40 Gamerscore to show for it. Tried playing it a couple of weeks ago and considering how I loved the first one I find the follow up to be pretty poor.

Dirt - bought for £5 again got about 20 Gamerscore for it.

Table Tennis - Bought for £10 - no Gamerscore

Assassins Creed - Bought for £27 on release day, 40 or so Gamerscore. I will get round to playing it more but it the repetitive gameplay does sometimes test the patience.

I am sure there's more but I can't remember, If you add up all those cost for the games it could have easily covered a MW2 preorder. *Sigh*

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I'm down to one still in the cellophane: Resi 5.

I did try to get a majority of achievements but now there are so many games that need you to play through more than once to do this I've given up.

I like a game the first time round but cannot be bothered to play it all again.

Mass effect and Fallout being examples. I loved both those first time round, tried playing them again to get other achievements, got bored as seen it before and stopped.

This way I've gradually worked through my 'still sealed' games as rather than playing through the same game again, I move onto something else.

Red face Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

.
Yes, very much so

This is mainly because I keep using sites like hotukdeals and when I see a bargain I go for it. I always at least try them, but it might be a 5 min play and then a lifetime sitting on a shelf.

I've tried to set cost limits of £5 for any game and £10 for a game I wanted anyway, but then a game comes on for £13 and I think what the heck, it's only £3.

I estimate I've 100 games which I haven't played properly. So mayabe about £1000 in wasted cash, but I will play them one day. Honest!

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

The only game I've currently got unplayed is Dead Space. I fully intend to play it, but Havent got around to it yet. Picked it up when it was £16.99 in HMV.

I used to be an idiot with DVDs. Back in the day I used to go onto play.com and order loads of R1 films that I liked the look of. TBH I only ended up watching half of what I ordered, sometimes only once. The other half stayed on my shelf 'on display'. In the end it was more about showing off my large collection rather than actually watching and enjoying the films I had.

I've been a bit more controlled with blu rays and games and only buy stuff I really want. If its a film I only buy if I'm a big fan and intend to watch the movie more than once. When it comes to games I only buy what I intend to play. I hate having a couple of games to play at the same time, so end up buying a game, enjoying it and moving on. The only time I get a back catalogie is around this time of year on the run up to christmas.

Re: Do you buy games and not play them ?

I've got a few games unplayed - i've had Fallout 3 since launch and only just started to play this and on the PS3 I've still got to play Valkyria Chronicles.

The worst thing for me is Arcade titles. I tend to buy them when they are on deal of the week but never seem to get round to playing them at all so I have both Penny Arcade titles unplayed. The same applies for PSN titles as well.

That's the cool thing about having a backlog of games. If you started playing Fallout 3 and only just bought it recently then you could've got it for £10, where-as at launch you would've paid £30-£45 for it.
