Mirror's Edge - a new IP from EA, but what did you make of it? Taken in by the design and creativity, or stunted by bugs and poor mechanics? Please vote in the poll and leave comments in this thread once you've played the game enough to judge.

Well if the first 2 votes are anything to go by this looks like a bit of a marmite game! |

Just Finished this now and can say, without a doubt, one of the best games I've ever played. This will go down in gaming history as a turning point in First Person games.
I've played no other game like it. My heart was in my mouth more times than I care to mention and the sense of achievement when I figured out how to get from the ground to 10 stories up with no guidance....
The art direction, music, ethereal, dreamlike almost and just damn cool.
Now I just have to try and beat that score on time trial one more time!
I'm praying they make a sequel.
I can't be the only one here that loves this game?

Im intrigued to hear what more people think. I actually enjoyed the demo in places but then having to repeat sections of the tutorial and then watching long animated sequences over and over annoyed me. But then I am the type of bloke to slate a game after 5 mins only to declare it the "Best Game Ever" soon after.
I loved the fact that when I just missed a jump and fell a great height I could actually feel a moment of panic, that hollow feeling in your chest that dips deep into your stomach (did you feel it reading that lol!) Does the game manage to keep moments like that fresh ?
Ask a mod to open a review thread for you. I often check there when I'm um'ing and ah'ing over game, I find them really useful.

I have also played this game and it really is a must-buy. The backgrounds change for each chapter of the game and you have to combine moves to get to out of reach places later in the game as things get more complicated. Also this game does not get old as even though you are doing similar things all the time it doesn't feel like it as you are surrounded with different tasks and challenges. It is very fast paced as well and you have to think at lightning pace as there is often several ways to get round obstacles. The AI could do with some work but this game is all about the running!!

I'm actually surprised at the longevity of the game, often preferring to play it instead of GOW2 or COD5. I've played single player 3 times now.
First on 'normal' trying for the not to shoot anyone (Test of Faith) achivement, took about 6-7 hours, mainly due to getting stuck on dealing with the cops without shotting them on the later levels. In fact it got so frustrating that by level 7 I ditched the achievement hunt and just killed everyone I met
Second playthrough was on 'easy' to get 'Test of Faith' and perfect the routes I would take for 'hard'. Don't think that took longer than 2-3 hours.
Third playthrough was on 'hard', which by this time i'd completed most of the time trials, plus two previous playthroughs, so I was able to run past many cops. Again this probably took 2-3 hours, but was just as enjoyable as the first time I played.
As to the demo's annoying habit of 'replaying' the last section if you mess it up, thats the only time it happens (durign training) for understandable reasons. Elsewhere mess up and you'll go back to a checkpoint, which on the whole are well placed, but a few are very poor and there should be far more included.
Apart from when loading data, (this is a good candidate to install to harddrive to avoid mid level 'loading' pauses) everything else is skippable.

I like the demo and think I'll get this when it's cheap because I've got plenty of games to keep me busy at the moment.

For me it was just too dull to consider purchasing as a new release.
Now that the price has dropped for this and other items like Midnight Club, I might take a 2nd look.

I have played this game for a while now and have to say it is one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. The idea of running and dodging obstacles is brilliant and the gameplay is excellent. A lot of fun to play and there are always different ways round obstacles. Very fast paced which just adds to the excitement.
This might be the first of its type but it won't be the last.
Superb!

I've merged the reviews thread with the thread in the games forum now. Please vote in the poll, more than 5 people must have played this!

If I ever find the time i'll write up a comprehensive review of the game, although I stand by pretty much everything i've said here and in the preview thread.
