how much is enough, I've played 20% (8 days) and I think it's very good, I do get a bit peeved when I run out of meds tho.

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

I'm going to hold off on actually giving a score given that I've been messing about collecting diamonds, doing side missions, exploring and as a result only still show at 23% after about 13 hours worth of play (not sure what percentage I'll have when I get to the southern territory)...

... but at this stage I think it's a work of absolute brilliance. It looks better than any other 360 game I've played, with a real believable setting which always reacts to you and is fantastically subtle and atmospheric.

There are going to be those that don't get along with this, as the action won't come quite quick and fast enough for them and this is a fair enough comment.

But if you like your games to be thoughtful, with a slower pace, then this will suit you really well. I'll drop a score in when I've completed the game (maybe sometime next year!!!)

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

excellent..

its a slow burner at the start as you want to run around rocket launching/torching everyone but it takes a while to get to that. The game structure is basically GTA in Africa, which is fine by me...

some truly wonderful graphics along the way as well....i am at 43% complete and am enjoying every minute...

..remember to be patient at first , it only really picks up speed after a few hours of play......

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

I have to agree with everyone else..very slow pace for the first hour then once the tutorial is over and you start with the odd side mission it is very good the graphics are fantastic with some crack'in effects.Due to only being 10% into the game I feel i'm not ready yet to make comments..

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

i came so close to trading this game the same day i got it but i looked at what other people were saying about it and most reviews said give it a chance and I'm glad i did, you soon learn the best way to avoid the armed patrols, the only thing i don't like is the map when you are driving, and whats the point in having cars without guns?, as soon as you start driving you end up running into an armed jeep.

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

SP is quality I think its a cross between COD and GTA...but I didn't enjoy MP as I have been playing COD4 and if you compare the 2 then Far Cry 2 comes up short.

What do you all think of MP?

Well it's about time I give a proper review.

I still haven't completed it but that goes to show how big a game it is, I'm about 64% in after just under 20 hours of play. Now I've gone at my own pace which is probably about average, after 20 hours you could easily be closer to 80% complete it you rushed through and only did the story and you could easily be only around 30% or so if you've spent your time exploring, collecting diamonds and doing side missions after 20 hours.

So it's like a GTA type game where you are very much in control of what you do and how you do it. Diamonds are only good for buying weapons (vehicles too but not as importantly) and you live and die by your decisions with the weapons, you'll find something you like and unlocking them as you go on keeps it interesting.

Two shinning plus points about this game you can't fail to admire are the visuals and the audio, both do a great job of immersing you in this beautiful diverse and huge African country. It really is a big game, when you unlock the southern region you get a map that same size as the one you'd been playing the game on up till that point, it's almost like unlocking a whole new game. Combine these two maps and you get a world way way bigger than GTAIV but just as realistic.

I feel Far Cry gets marked down for its story though, I can't fault anything else really but this, it's just spread way too thin for such a big game and it doesn't seem to carry it off but it's not really about the story it's about the experience.

This link has been posted before but it's something everyone considering buying Far Cry 2 or who has Far Cry 2 should read because it helps you get the best out of the game.

Xbox.com | Xbox 360 Games - SOME TIPS TO MAKE YOUR FC2 EXPERIENCE BETTER
I'll put the content of the link on the next post just incase you can't access it at work or something.

I haven't even mentioned the multiplayer or map editor that's because I have barely played the multiplayer, I'm sure someone can write a better review on that than I ever could.

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

SOME TIPS TO MAKE YOUR FC2 EXPERIENCE BETTER

1.) Please get past the tutorial and play some missions before you pass judgement on the game. This is very important. This game starts slowly and the first hour or so won't blow you away or anything. Give it some time!

2.) This game is somewhat hard and requires you to think. First off, play the game on normal. It provides plenty of a challenge but shouldn't cause you to pull out your hair in frustration. Another above normal will be tough! For all those complaining about having to empty your gun into an enemy to kill him, listen up! Crouching, combined with very short controlled bursts is extremely accurate and will drop the enemy quickly. A headshot will drop the enemy almost instantly.

3.) Before attempting a mission all the way across the map, search and find a safehouse that is near your objective. Clear it out and occupy it. Then save your game. That way, if you die, you will start back near your objective and don't have to travel across the whole map again.

4.) You unlock some things a little ways into the game that allow you to be extremely stealthy, thus making missions easier, especially at night. For example, you unlock weapons with sound suppressors, a dart rifle, and a CAMO SUIT which will help you immensly! At the start of the game, you don't have the camo suit or suppressed weapons and it can be hard to use a stealth approach.

5.) You can also unlock accuracy upgrades, ammo count upgrades, and reliability upgrades for you weapons. Many of these things can be unlocked by completing the convoy missions given to you by the weapons dealers (look for the little gun icon on your map). You will need diamonds to buy the upgrades once you unlock them, so either find the diamonds, or complete missions, or both.

6.) As far as the respawing guarded checkpoints everyone is complaining about, fly past them full speed in your vehicle, hit the emergency break, do a u-turn, hit A and get into the turret seat. Wait for and then shoot the guys following you in the vehicles. You can also throw a grenade under their vehicle once it stops and blow it up. Or, keep your distance from the checkpoints and go around them without alerting the enemy. Also, once you find a dune buggy, it's easy to outrun vehicles that are chasing you.

7.) No, the aiming is not as fluid as COD4. However, after a few hours, you'll adjust and it won't be a big deal anymore. Use the default sensitivity or lower. Anything higher will pronounce the problems with the aiming.

8.) Use the environment to your advantage. Shoot explosive barrels, throw your grenades, start fires to create diversions, etc. But most importantly, scout out the area and develop a plan of attack before you just run in and start acting like Rambo on crack.

9.) People are blowing the whole malaria thing WAY out of proportion. Go to the underground mission (the icon with a bunch of circles inside one another) every now and then and do some missions to earn more malaria pills. Pop a few pills when your screen starts to get blurry and yellow. When he empties the pills into his hand, look to see how many their are, and then go earn some more pills when you're getting low. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.

10.) Use the river to your advantage. Sometimes it's much easier to take a boat to get closer to your objective than going by land. Yes, you will get attacked, but not nearly as much as by land IF you drive by in your boat at top speed and keep going.

11.) Believe it or not, some people are complaining about the graphics. These are some of the best graphics I've seen on the 360, ESPECIALLY for being such a huge world. If you think the graphics are bad, immediately stop playing, box up your 360 and FC2, wrap it in Christmas paper, and give it to someone who can't afford one, because you don't deserve to play it anymore and I'm sure they'd love to have it.

This game offers a BEAUTIFULLY rendered, immersive world that you can get lost in. As someone said earlier, this game combines the immersiveness of Oblivion with the FPS action of a Call of Duty game. Take your time and don't rush through it. That may be a lot of the problem. People are trying to rush through this to get to the next big AAA game coming out (Fallout 3, Fable 2, Gears 2, etc...) and it's frustrating them because they're not making progress as fast as they would like. Stop and smell the roses. Those other games will still be there when your done with FC2.

This game is one of the very best I've played on the 360, now excuse me while I get back to playing......

Excellent advice their mate. People really need to give this game time. After an hour or so it really does become 'unput-downable'...thats a real word!

I havent thrown this many hours at a single player game in years.

Realism...?

I know what you're talking about there, sometimes it's good to go off road if you can also to cut corners around around the armed posts. If you can travel by boat as well that's generally a lot safer.

Legacy? What is that, I find the controls quite similar to COD4 with cars and boats.

I love both Gears and COD4 and the controls on Far Cry 2 are good, quite easy to get your head around.

for sure you can have the same control on them all, but one control option i am having trouble finding on far cry 2 which is available on the others is legacy!!!! Legacy is where you have forward/back and rotate left/right on the left stick and then you have straife left/right and look up/down on the right stick.
like i said before i am having trouble finding it, it maybe there but i cannot see it. i just cannot play with the controls when moving forward/back and straifing left/right on the same stick. if my explanation is difficult to understand heres one i pulled of a COD4 site:

Legacy – Swaps vertical functionality of the left and right thumbsticks

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

They game is good but the online side lets it down a tad. I find it really..slow or something. Cannot quite put my finger on it.

The level editor is a very nice edition which I hope other devs implement into console games instead off just the PC versions.

GFX look stunning and the level of detail is amazing. The spreading fire is a good example.

Soundtrack is good also, something which I dont normally pick up on in games. Talking of soundtrack, does anyone know the name of the song Game where playing on the TV adverts of the game?

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

I voted average but would change to excellent now Ive completed it. Probably judged it to early. Graphics and the sounds are stunning and the maps are huge. Needs to be played on HD TV and through an an amp to truly appreciate this game. Never played online so cant comment.

Anybody had a successful flight on the hanglider. It was like an aerodynamic rock when I launched it. Straight into a tree

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

I voted excellent. The only reason it didn't get an outstanding is the rediculous amount of traveling around needed. I appreciate they have created a huge environment for you to run around in, but even if they put a few more of the bus stops in the game then that would have been better. I now use the rivers to travel as much as possible cause I cant be bothered with taking the guys out at all the check points continuously. Less hassle on the water!

Re: Far Cry 2: XBox 360 reviews

9 out of 10 for me.. I'm really enjoying the game alot.. It's really involving and I love the whole African theme .. I agree about the traveling getting a bit tedious, I end up either using the bus or going by boat.. I didn't think I would of liked it, the previous game was a bit boring in my view, but this one has surprised me ... An excellent game
