Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Please vote if you've played enough of Battlefield Bad Company to judge, but feel free to leave comments about your feel for the game.

Top marks should only be given for a landmark game that sets new rules and an average game that does things right but nothing special should get an average (not a good like some media would have you believe).

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Keeping it brief, this is the most fun I've had on the 360 for a while - despite all the flaws and frustrations.

Single-player is spoiled by the (lack of) AI, while multiplayer problems stem from being put in squads with players who have no concept of (or interest in) playing Goldrush - the only game mode available out of the box.

Graphics are great and the destructible environments are hugely entertaining. Provided you're not just expecting COD4 on a grander scale with vehicles, this is a solid 8 out of ten. A few tweaks/patches and the promised Conquest mode could polish this up to 9 or even 10 - unfortunately I'm not convinced that will happen.

Cheers,

Teddy

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Firstly you should really only buy the game if you are interested in multiplayer. I have put in more than 29 hours online already and would say it is one of the most fun, rewarding and addictive multiplayer FPS I have ever played.

I have played PC iterations of BF (BF2, BF2142) and although they are more 'feature' packed, neither of them are as playable as BF BC. The frostbite engine which feaures destructable environments is implemented really well. The only negative is that close quarters infantry combat can be a little clunky. The other negative is the lack of private matches, although this is likely to be remedied in a future patch.

However I can forgive these as the whole package offers almost limitless replayablility. Special mention should also go to the gigantic maps that come with the game, with 'Harvest Day' the standout map IMO.

Gold rush gametype is a good variation on other traditional games and with the immenient release of the classic 'Conquest' mode, I do not see this game coming out of my disc tray anytime soon.

I have only completed the first level of Single-player, which was good fun, but whilst I was playing it all i could think about was returning to multiplayer.

It has kept COD4 and GTAIV out of my 360 since it was released.

Based on this I have voted excellent.

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

I have rated it as excellent.

This is basically for the Multiplayer though, the single player is average at best with some dodgy AI and a few other niggles.

However the multiplayer is fantastic. Really good fun! Yes it does have its faults (respawn time and random weapon damage - Im looking at you ) but despite them it is still an amazing gameplay experience.
The sound and gritty graphics really help to immerse you in a small scale battle on a large plain.

Also there are plenty of noobs who either dont get how to play the game and try and turn it into team deathmatch or they just bugger about! But these things are easily overlooked when you get into a good squad.

Ironically I hated the demo on the Oasis map for this game, and I wasnt going to get it - but for some reason I did as an impulse buy - and I dont regret it one bit. I have totally changed my mind.

Get it in

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Excellent game. Online multiplayer is up there with the best online gaming fun I have ever had when played properly (i.e. with communication & tactics).

I actually like the single player as well. Nothing fancy, but it's just really fun to play.

Very average. Single player AI is broken, bland levels, mediocre visuals, terrible feel to shooing. The game feels very rushed and basic in places. Frostbite engine - meh!

Very dissapointed. Real shame as I was really looking forward to this game

Traded for Unreal 3.

Have you even played the game? Its just you have no record against your gamertag of ever having played the demo, let alone the full game. And your opinion strikes me as one formed from very little experience of the full game. Either that or you have only played single player, in which case you have missed out on 95% of the Bad Company goodness, and aren't really in a position to pass judgement. I may be wrong....

Anyway, as someone that has played this online (for a fair few hours now ) I can say that IMO it is at the top of the pile in regards to online multiplayer 360 titles. I've been a fan of the Battlefield series since they were first released (I've played 1942 - Vietnam - BF2 - 2142 and Modern Combat) and this newest iteration is yet another worthy addition to the series. In fact I'd say that it has been my favourite of the lot.

The Gold Rush gametype means both teams are given more focus and direction compared to the conquest mode of previous games. This makes for more naturally occuring teamwork, as you are all working to the same objective. The Frostbite engine, and its destructible environments, means the maps are far more dynamic, and makes for more varied and interesting games, because as the buildings, forest, fences etc get destroyed the flow of the map shifts. This stops the maps from getting stale, along with the multi staged nature of the maps means despite only being 8 available initially, they have a lot of replayability.

The kits are set up in a similar way to 2142, with each role being useful in its own right, but not overshadowing the other kits and weapons by being a jack of all trades. This means there are usually a large mix of weapons and abilities on the battlefield, which again means a nice variation of tactics, and diverse gameplay.

So, all in all, single player mode - easily forgettable, and don't even think about buying the game solely for it.
Multiplayer - Where its at, easily one of, if not THE best online multiplayer game available on the 360 at the moment. A really polished experience, which remains fresh and fun, even after many hours of play.

I voted 9/10.

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

I've played this for a while now. It's good not brilliant. I've done what I think is 3/4's of the single player and a couple of hours online it hasn't engaged me anywhere near as much as COD4 did when that first came out, I think that's because it's less of a serious/ realistic game.

However it is still fun and worth a purchase.

You are. I've played (online and sp), diskiked and traded the full game - see my gamertag.
Just because you like the game and gave it 9, dosnt mean I do. I gave it 'average' because in all honesty IMO thats all the game deserves.

Compare BC to Modern Combat/Battlefield 2 - there's no comparison for me.

Dice really dropped the ball - the shooting feels all wrong, the ai is poor, level design is boring and basic, graphics arent great, the big selling point - the frost bite engine - pretty poorly executed if you ask me.

But hey this is just my opinion and my review, dont wish to upset fans of the game.

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

like above, the huge maps and destructable enviroments are awesome
add that the choppers, tanks, boats etc and its brilliant
this is what cod4 missed, but there are a few flaws
you can die instantly on spawning, which is annoying
close combat with shotguns can be abit hit and miss, and the knife sumtimes looks like its a javelin
a few games modes would of made it a 10/10, but due to there being one its 8/10 from me
also, light maching guns are way too accurate

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

I've rated this game as Bad

Single-player is appalling, the story is okay in some respects but you can tell whats going to happen next. The fact that when you enter a vehicle your squad spawn in the vehicle is shoddy. The AI are stupid! The makers claim its a non-linear game, which is a lie....they should have said ''You can go anywhere to a certain extent'' - the enemy AI spawn when they are close enough to engage, so the only way to play this game is by full assualt. Sniping is also bad when you get the chance, if you decide to sneak behind cover for a better shot - the enemy AI know exactly where you are and only seem to shoot at you and not your squad.

Multiplayer is average. I know now they have released free DLC. But when I played it, very boring, very fast!

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

I rated this as average, and agree with Meadsy's points above. The MP is fundamentally floored in my opinion especially the spawning. I have lost count of how many times I have spawned with one of my team just as they get killed, only to be killed immediately as well. Or chasing an enemy to stab them only to have their team spawn behind me and kill me first.

I got the gold edition and played through to level 25, which when you get there is very disappointing and leaves you thinking now what?

It's the most frustrating game I think I have ever played and traded it in last week, next!

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Rated as below average.

Single player was really poor, the AI was none existant and meant I gave up even trying to play the game after several hours.

Multiplayer is better, but still no where near as good as the other popular shooters. The environments are destructable, but they never did resolve the issue from the Beta, where a grenade can hit the wall next to you and you don't take any damage. The hit box's are poor, so many shots to kill one person, unless you use a shotgun or sniper rifle.
The squad play is pants. You get stuck with some random people making team work none existant. This is the one game where no one actually talks (plus side is no screaming kids)

This could and should have been so much better, it will do for another couple of weeks until Brothers in Arms is out.

One of the best games I've played in a long time, I've hardly touched another game since it was released. The single player is good except for the A.I. that instantly knows where you are to making any sort of flanking tactics redundant. All I'm gonna say is the multiplayer is fantastic, the jewel in the crown of this game. 10/10 from me.

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Apart from the awful lag since sunday last ( which seems to have been sorted ) then the MP version of this is awesome.

Gold Rush is a cracking idea as it forces at least one team to attack or they lose.

So if the attacking team camp and just go for kills then whilst they may get good scores they will lose the map..

As a veteran of Bf games it made a nice change from conquest.

Now i was soo glad when conquest was launched and loved playing "proper" BF again. Theyre should have been more maps but thats going to be changed.

As for the SP mode.

For the most part ( story wise etc ) its good , really good. Yeah its no COD4 ( who can forget the shock they felt when the marine character you used gets killed off ! ) but its its okay .

The only issue i suppose is that should you die then theres little or no impact on the game or player as anything you have destroyed or killed prior to ytour death doesnt get regenerated ( ala cod ) but stays dead.

Apart from that i really enjoyed the SP...

All in all 8/10 for me

Which will go up when we get more maps/DLC

bad company is not that bad of a game at all, nice graphics and sound the game physics are very good. the single player game is still no where near as good as COD4 in my opinion, but where bad company shines through is on multi player games and maps.... i'd give this a cool 8/10

Absolutely loving it. best game I have played for a long time. The graphics and destructable environments are just superb. love the way the branches fly off the tree's when shooting through them and the leaves going everywhere.

The sound is the best i have ever heared on a console ever. The fact that it is conducted in real time adds a fantastic atmosphere. The weapons sound and feel great, the exsplosions are superb and driving the vehicles seems varied and intuitive.

The AI can be a bit dodgy at times, but its easily overlooked considering how well everything else works.

I voted excellent

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

Very good game. I've finished the single player on hard and whilst fun it fell way short of COD2 on veteran which IMO is the best single player FPS experience on the 360. I'm also ****** that after finishing SP on hard, I have to replay on normal to pick up achievements. Finishing on hard should grant you the easy and normal achievements like COD2 did.

Multiplayer however is brilliant. It's replaced COD4 as the game that lives in my drive and I'm just over half way through the ranks. I was a big fan of BF:MC and BC seems to have kept all the best bits (huge maps, vehicles, classes) but made the whole experience slicker. The destructable environment really does provide more strategy as you can bypass choke points and make your own doors. You can even grenade the ground and make a foxhole. The only things stopping this from being a perfect game is the stupid decision to remove the prone position and the parachute.

Not a massive fan of FPS but this was very easy to get in to. Rate it 7/10 and is a lot of fun. Not really a multiplayer player so can't rate that side of things.

Re: Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 reviews

An 8. Overall not as good as BF:MC in my book, however you have to admire the destructability of the maps which can actually change the way you play the game. The sound is also probably the best that i've experienced in a game. Plus anyone handing out "Friendly Cheese" has to score highly .

Bad lag and a weak SP prevents it from being a 9 for me - conquest was completely tacked on (due to mob demand) and doesn't really work.
