Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

So, Dark Sector is out now, and you've had a chance to play and discover what the full game holds. If you would like to share your opinion on this game, what you liked/disliked about it, please vote in the poll and comment in this thread.

A 10 should only be given for a landmark game that sets new rules, a 9 for a truly excellent game without a fundamental flaw, and an average game that does things right but nothing special should get a 5 (not a 7 like some reviews would have you believe).

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

Just finished Dark Sector and thoroughly enjoyed playing through to the end.

I may aswell get the main criticism out first; it appears to rip off two main games:-

It uses the GOW engine, button configuration and similar graphical environment. The weopon also has an 'active reload' style charge before you release for extra damage.

It also rips off the old Zelda games where instead of a boomerang you have a 'glaive' style weopon that can kill enemies, trigger switches, open doors, pick up cold/heat charges etc.

If you look past that and endure the first 3 levels, which are pretty short and poor, the game develops into a decent storyline. Getting to grips with the power ups and using the 'glaive' to decapitate enemies is quite fun. The graphics are good too with great lighting when you flame up the Glaive indoors.

The glaive adds to the usual FPS on offer and the odd puzzles where you have to open sequences of switches etc. are quite good.

The only downside is it's too easy and what should have been frantic battles in large caves, courtyards etc lose their sense of drama as you can easily get to cover to regenerate your health. The game also loses its momentum at times as it appears to be just filler on the way from one large battle to the next.

However this changes towards the end of the game with a couple of really good bosses to negotiate and the story reaching a climax.

A different FPS from the norm out there. I've scored it a 7/10 but I was tempted to go higher. A rental for me but I wouldn't have grudged paying the money for it!

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

Great review mate pretty much my thoughts exactly.

I think the graphics at some points are the best I have seen and there isn't even a hint of slowdown anywhere (walking outside into the rain with an electrified Glaive and your shield up is breath taking). Also the Glaive is just an awesome weapon, putting after touch on a power throw and taking 4 bad guys down just never gets dull.

For me this game has been underrated by much of the press. I will give it a solid 8/10 and thats just for single player!

I have yet to try multi player (which sounds good). Plus I am looking forward to the second play through and that is something I very rarely do.

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

Just voted in the wrong poll after getting my "darks" mixed up, thought I was voting for The Darkness with my 8/10(the cover should have been an extra give away), haven't played Dark Sector yet, sorry poll followers

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

Been playing through this for the last few days, decided to vote and give it an 8. The melee combat lets it down when someone is close to you, but aside from that I cannot fault this game. So far the bosses have been great (especially the huge 'bear' thing that leaps around the ceiling). Kind of a cross between Gears of War and Resident Evil 4. I'm now on chapter 8 and still loving it. Seems to be a lack of money lying around in the game for me so I never seem to have enough for all the weapons I want. And I always run out of upgrade slots.

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

Played it for a few days and it's generally a good game though not my cup of tea. Close combat is a pain and the fact that enemies sometimes take 3 hits with the glaive can be annoying.

Should really give it some more time though I'm too impatient. Can see me returning to it in a few months after regretting trading it.

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

This was one of the myriad of games that gets bought when seen cheap, then just sits on the shelf for months. Well I finally decided to pop it in the 360 at the weekend, and must say I was pleasantly surprised. Several hours in and enjoying it nothing outstanding but good fun.

Re: Dark Sector Xbox 360 reviews

I bought this game for £5 new, sat on my pile of games for a few months.

I picked it up during a lull period whilst waiting for new games, and have to admit I was very surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Like people have said, there is deffo a feeling of GOW, which is fine with me as GOW is one of my fav titles.

This game is deffo worth a play through, I'm tempted to play it again on the Brutal setting as that is the last achievement I need to get (apart from the Multi-player ones).
