Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is out and you've had a good go by now. If you would like to share your opinion on this game, and what you liked/disliked about it, please vote in the poll and comment below after you've had enough of a play to judge it. A worthy successor in the popular Rainbow Six franchise, or uninventive and offers nothing new?

A 10 should only be given for a landmark game that sets new rules, a 9 for a truly excellent game without a fundamental flaw, and an average game that does things right but nothing special should get a 5 (not a 7 like some reviews would have you believe).

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

Even if this game is an expansion pack dressed up as a full blown sequel I still love it. The original still is one of my favorite 360 games and this one is the same with a sprint mode, better leveling system and new maps. The niggles for me is that the single player game is to short, no where near the standard of the original and the problems with lag and not getting into games should not be there. These problems where there with the original and were fixed so this makes no sense.

As for COD4 comparisons I like both games but much prefer the multiplayer side of RBSV, I never got into COD4 multi-player every game felt the same old thing just like playing MOH on the PC years ago with better graphics, alright for half hour but then it becomes boring. RBSV on the other hand I have already had a few 12 hour sessions, get bored with attack and defend then play some Thunts or help each other out with the story, this is what makes RBSV so good for me

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

This game gets a 5 from me

it does alot of things right such as

1. XP system
2. intergrated story mode with multiple entry points making co-op great
3. nice selection of multiplayer maps

but then it does alot of things wrong!!

1. poor poor poor graphics -from the opening screen you just know its not gotta look good
2. 2 player co-op - seriously! why ??/
3. missing multiplayer game modes - !! retrieval?? HELLO! -
4. limited multiplayer options - 3 respawns attack and defend ? are you having a laugh!!
5.FrameRate - less than 20fps at times
6. ok now that cod and battlefield use a button press of analogue stick for sprint it just doesnt feel right using the LB :-(
7. 7 missions! - expansion!!
8. poor final level and ending -- just doesnt make sense!!
9. very quick to max out the xp system

note: ill still be playing this over COD and many other games as multiplayer and playing with a friend in general is still alot of fun

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

I give it a seven because I'm enjoying the pace of the single player campaign and seem to be enjoying Terro Hunt more, but it's lucky to get a seven with all the bugs, frame rate drops and tearing when it has come out over a year later than Vegas on over two year old established tech It's a poor quality product in that respect and I hope Ubisoft have taken note of such comments. I'm glad I didn't pay near full RRP for it.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

Gets a 7 from me, when I soooo wanted it to be a 9

I was a massive fan of the original R6V, and played single player, T-Hunts and MP to death....A&D Calypso Casino was just brilliant. And whilst there are several things that Vegas2 does better than the original, there are areas where Ubi have just plain broken what didn't need fixing.

Likes:

ACES system [though to max out at level 20 in less than a week is quite disappointing. Should have been up to level 50/100, or have the option to reset]

Coop on story and T-Hunts is great.

Good range of weapons, though I'll probably narrow them down to a shortlist of favourites and never use the rest.

Dislikes:

*Graphics not improved.
*Rehashed music/dialogue.
*Killhouse, Presidio and Streets are back - NO CALYPSO?!?!??!
*Limited respawns in both TDM and A&D - seriously, who thought this was EVER gonna be a good idea!??!?!?! Both modes are now like survival.
*Lobbies saying 2/16 players, click to join = "Session is Full"...over and over and over and over again!!!!
*Framerate dropoff when things get hectic.
*Rehashed camo/clothing.
*Host cannot see each players ping, so game gets started and everyone starts complaining of lag because there's at least one 'red dot' in the room, that, as you don't know who it is, cannot be kicked.
*No Private First Class achievement thanks to the XP bonus.
[these are just some that instantly spring to mind, I'm sure there are plenty of other gripes I have with it]

All in all, I will persevere with the game, and hope that Ubi sort out some of the issues that have been mentioned and are painfully obvious via a patch/update of some sort. I've given up on playing Ranked with Randoms, and will spend most of my time playing Player Matches with the guys from my 'clan' [Tactical Assault Team] and AVF.

I'm just a little disappointed that something that could have been truly amazing, has turned out to be, in certain aspects, worse than the original game. At times it's barely R6V 1.5, never mind 2

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

The first RV6 was the reason I went out and bought a 360. Although the 1 player game wasn't up to par with my trusty old Conflict Desert Storm which I loved and played to death on the PS2 the online experiance totally blew me away. RV62 does everything the first game did but has some different maps and a better ranking system so it must be better right? Er well i think the jury is still out as far as i'm concerned. Firstly I think they have made a mistake with not being able to see other people's ping. this means that you can join a 3 green dot game and still get lag as 2-3 red dot's can join the game in progress. I do like the idea of joining games in progress though as it means you don't have to sit around waiting for games but I do think this is the reason for the lag.
Another gripe is the slowdown I get in single player story mode. this i think is unforgivable. Surely any amount of testing would have highlighted this problem before release date. All of my gripes though i'm sure can be fixed with some sort of patch. As someone before has already said, this game will probably be a permanent resident in my drive as the multiplayer is so much fun. I think it could have been better and there are problems but I give this a good 7/10

Just read your thread after posting mine and I totally agree with everything you have written. I too only play player games.
BTW when you say you have already reached level 20 do you mean you are already an Elite?

[I wish]

No, I've maxed out both Marksman and CQB on the ACES system, and at about level 18 on the Assault one as well.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

I am so glad I never played COD4 because it seems to have ruined many players enjoyment of every game that is released since.

All I ever see now is people saying "this games gfx are poor compared to COD4".

While Rainbow games have never been the best gfx wise and this game does seem to have been rushed out with a huge amount of bugs and issues it will still be my goto game when I want some action. I love T-hunt and have done since the days of rogue spear.

Cant beat watching an episode of ultimate force then going on r6 and pwning some Ts

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

7/10 - I would of given it 8/10 if they hadn't dropped 4 player story mode. This for me was a stupid move as Rainbow has always been 4 player coop, right back to the pc and old xbox versions. Why this was removed is beyond me. I have also taken 2 points away due to the fact its not really new material, it was a bit lazy picking Vegas again and some of the terrorist hunt levels are the same as the last rainbow. A different location would of helped no end, but would of involved Ubi spending more time and money. Also how many more games are ubisoft going to use that helicopter in (graw 1 & 2, Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2). Add to all this the story mode is also very short.

However I am a massive fan of the Rainbow series and I have enjoyed playing this game allot. The graphics are slightly improved over the last game (not hard as they were pants in the last rainbow). The feel of the game is very much rainbow which IMO good. I also like the run feature which is new.

To me this feels more like an expansion of rainbow rather than a full game, but I half expected that after GRAW 2 which IMO was the same.

Overall a good game but not a great one and not one which should be charged at full price.

It's annoying player one has to deal with the AI team mates in co-op too, I would rather it just be human players.

pretty much same complaints as everyone else.

the core fundamental of the game is still great, however they havent moved it on much from the first game to give it a better score.

and like everyone else...why oh why remove the 4 player story mode!!!

Appart from the woeful bullet lag and hit detection im fairly happy. Im chuffed that ALL the game modes now count towards the XP/ACES/Acheivements.

Sure once they sort those woes out it'll be fine

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

I must say, i'm surprised this has been as well recieved as it has in the press.

This is just a lazy reharsh, that in no way surpasses the 2 year old original( which i loved)

The XP system is decent, but too short.

It feels so rushed it's untrue.

I almost can see it now, in the development room.

Boss - "right lads we need to have the option to sprint"

Design team - "but that wasn't in the original, sounds like hard work to me "

Boss - " yeah but every other game has it now"

Design Team (talking amoungst themselves) - " Don't worry i know a way we can do this in less than 3 minutes" "Wow that shaves 6 minutes off the time we spent designing the levels and characters"

" yeah i know i'm gonna get headhunted soon by IW"

The multiplayer, i have never got to be honest. i played 3 hours and everyone of my search and destroy games lasted under 1 minute, and we were lucky if there was even a kill involved.

It's quite fun co-op (but what game isnt)

Very Very Disapointed in all, really liked the 1st one and this is standstill, which feels like a step backwards, due to the time gap.

4 from me

so is it a worse game the r6v..
in terms of graphics and gameplay??

i have this at home but my xbox is broken..but people on here have been rating it 4/10

is it really that bad..
if its anything like r6v im sure to love it..and since i didnt play mp on r6v..then the mp on this should be a nice surprise for me..

i was kindof hoping it wouldnt be done in the same mould as graw2..but it sounds like it has been..

is it worse than r6v or is it a case of not being any better or any worse..

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

@ meweavy, if you liked the first one then you probably won't hate this game....I think the general feeling is that it feels a little bit rushed, and despite a few tweaks [ie the ACES system, which is waaaaay too short] its no better than the original.........in fact, and I hope I'm not contradicting my previous review post, in some areas it is actually worse than the original......Attack & Defend is now completely wrecked, due to limited respawns...coupled with the fact that they decide to bring back Streets, Presidio and KillHouse, but leave out Calypso Casino, is quite a staggering decision. Calypso was one of [if not the] most popular maps on the original, especially when playing A&D, and some bright spark at Ubi has decided "I've got a great idea boss....lets trash one of the most popular game modes, and also remove completely one of the most popular maps"

But, that all said, it isn't a complete wreck....hopefully Ubi can address some of the well known issues via an update.

Some very harsh reviews on here. There is no way this game is a 4/10. It's an 8/10 imho.

It's what it says on the box 'Vegas 2'. It's as good as the original with some nice new features. Am finding this much more engrossing than COD4

im certain the only reason why calypso was not included this time is becaues if it was then thats all people would play! they wouldnt try the newer maps

it wouldnt surprise me to see calypso in the next map pack along with fixes for the game modes

not sure they can fix the 2 player co-op though (the fools!)

My review may be a little harsh, but, if you then put the price into the equation, absolute shocker.

There is no way this should be a full price title

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

I have been dissapointed from a 2nd game in a series many times before. (Halo 2 being the biggest let down)

I still dont know what to make of RSV2. Yes it has lots of bad points, but the core game play is miles better than other games. The cover system still works better than anything else out there. The guns (although they all have the same sounds and stats) work more realistic than most games. You cant grenade or RPG spam like in other games.

One thing I really hate is the lack of XP you seem to get for winning a game, its like after all that hard work you get like 2XP more than peeps who lost.

I dont know its a tuffy, I live in hope that when the patch to sort out the rank skipping acheivment comes out, they will at least allow infinate respawns on attack and defend otherwise its pretty boring game mode.

Calypso was one of [if not the] most popular maps on the original, especially when playing A&D, and some bright spark at Ubi has decided "I've got a great idea boss....lets trash one of the most popular game modes, and also remove completely one of the most popular maps"

But, that all said, it isn't a complete wreck....hopefully Ubi can address some of the well known issues via an update.

so all in all its a rehash of the original..is there any new areas to this game..or is reHASH being the operative word..

seems a shame they had all this time to make a brilliant game even better and it sounds like they have made a complete balls up of things..

i remember eidos doing the same thing a few years back with a tomb raider game..and it put them under..

"Rehash" would imply a different experience mate and in all honesty it's not a new experience at all - that's not to say it's a bad one, but those who have also bought GRAW2 and wondered where it's improved will also think the same of this and think slightly worse of Ubisoft as a result.

There just doesn't appear to be much in the way of thought having gone into this game, compare it to something like the transition between say Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 and the difference is glaring. Granted, HL1 to HL2 took years, but I'd say that's the key - take your time and give your paying customers something new to chew on, instead of something stale.

the half life comparison is a very good point

half life 2 is amazingly different to the first half life but alot of that is to do with the technology

the problem with releasing a sequel so soon is that the differences will never be that great :-( - if you plan to release a sequel so soon then it should be expanisons or episodes - i.e half life 2 episodes (great idea!)

but look at the difference between Rainbow Vegas and the last Rainbow game on the PC (big difference)

ultimately the biggest difference with rainbow is the cover system.

I just hope that any future games are just expansions and reasonabily priced too.

full credit to ubisoft though for what they did to the rainbow and ghost recon series when they first appeared on the next generation consoles but please dont milk them now ubisoft!

They seem to be having the right idea with GRAW2 now - with all the expansion packs . lets hope that r6v2 gets the same treatment.

And I suppose really that's what it comes down to....pounds and pence....the fact that this game costs a minimum of £30, and people will have paid up to £40 for it, that is what makes it feel a bit of a disappointment. If it had been priced at say £19.99 or something, and marketed as basically a few new maps, a few more weapons, and some nice little touches like the ACES system, then we probably wouldn't be complaining highlighting its errors quite as much.

At the moment it just doesn't feel like its worth £30-£40 more than the original.

That said, you guys gonna be around tonight for some Player matches??

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

Thanks Tiger.

Good point rio1981 about HL 1 and 2, that was one sequal that blasted away the first one. Mainly cause rather than making the game into a comercial pooping out machine they made it as a new game.

As for xSP4RT4N L4Wx, I cant moan about the price as with trade in i got it for £4.98!

Back to RSV2 did you know you can use voice command? I found that out recently, it works really well considering all the other game issues lol.

In the imortal words of Tolgatt, "Hey Tiger why dont we go ranked huh?"

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Xbox 360 reviews

Was looking forward to this one as much as the next guy, but am so dissappointed!!

As peeps are saying, it all feels very rushed to me and compared to CoD4's multiplayer, this isnt a patch on it. It seems its been done so lazily, all the gloss and glamour of the first vegas has completely gone for me and this game has no shine!!

Plus the fact that online is completely laggy at the moment, they really need to sort it out! I too am waiting for the kind people of MS to send me some hardware that works for my £250, but I'm seriously contemplating whether to return this for a credit note, and get the CoD4 extra pack when it comes out next month! I knew I shouldnt have traded it in!!

4 for me as well sorry! Not impressed!
