Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

are we talking the full game or the live side?
the full games ok (alot like the last)
the live side is very good (tanks.bikes etc)
but at the end of the day it's not COD2 not even close imo

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

voted as good, Single player is fine maybe not quite as intense as the 2nd but only half way through so cant really comment too much on it. The online aspect is obviously were its at with these games and it just does'nt grab me like the 2nd call of duty did, i still think its a good FPS online but its not as addictive as COD2.

The whole package really. I agree that the Live side is definitely a step in the right direction, but I was left a bit cold by the offline game. OK, they've got all the set pieces and very spectacular they are too, but the game is a bit buggy (not game-breaking though), and it feels a bit clunky after titles like GRAW and more recently Rainbow Six and GoW (especially where cover's involved). Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it, but it takes more than a depth of field focus on the zoom to convince me the series has moved on.

Online is much more positive with the 24 player games and new game types and so on, so maybe this will give Vegas a run for it's money, and I'm hoping it'll be around long enough to shine.

Overall: 7.

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

I was wondering how long this style of FPS will last when compared with Rainbow 6 and third person titles like GRAW and GOW.

Still a great game though but could be so much better.

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

My score for COD3 was 9/10. I think if you're new to the series the score is liable to be slightly higher, as it was in my case; I'd never played COD2 apart from the marketplace demo, so the intensity of the game hit me like a hammer to the face.

Played over a weekend whilst the Mrs was away, it was played late, lights out, 5.1 up higher than usual (), and it was a fantastic experience. I haven't yet had a crack at the joypad-bitingly difficult Veteran level.

If I were to use one word to sum up COD3 both online and offline it would be "frantic". In multiplayer with a decent amount of people you really don't get any time to think and you're reliant on your instincts moreso than, say, GOW. The same applies to single player, from the moment you get a boost over that first wall it's straight into the action with no turning back.

Graphics are excellent and from what I've seen represent an improvement over COD2. Sound seems to continue in similar vein, how this can all be crammed through the speakers is unbeknown to me - but the game is all the better for it.

COD4 doesn't seem very far away though from what I've read and given the departure from WWII it should be a very different COD next time around.

9/10

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

I've given it an 8 here.

The one main thing with this game is that you see lots of reviews comparing it to COD2 which is wron gin my books.
I never played COD2 on 360 (had it on PC) and therefore Cod3 to me is great whereas those who've got cod2 on 360 might well say it's not a lot new etc which is far comment, but a little unjustified in many respects.

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

i've given it a 7

not because its bad but because its not different enough from the last game to really stand out apart from graphics and a few little (unexciting additions - i.e the action sequences, planting bombs etc)

still a good game that i would recommend to anyone whos not played COD2

I gave it an 8...Thought it was a very good game but the lack of checkpoints ( noticable on VET level) made it a little less enjoyable IMO!!!

Sounds like this bugger's gonna be too tough for me then(yes I am useless ).

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

Huh? There are checkpoints.

I've not played in online, as I have no Live at the moment. I was enjoying the game until I took time off to play Gears of War. Essentially, they are very similar games, what with the duck and cover techniques, and after GoW, I felt sick coming back to COD. It's not a bad game by any means, but I found the game boring in comparison to GoW. It wasn't exactly gripping prior to that as I think I'm about full with WW2 shooters now.

6/10

Edit: Finished it now. Last 2 levels were very good, though short. Overall, I'm glad I played it, I'm glad I got it from Play-Asia and I'm glad my local Gamestop accepts them (Asian releases) for trade in.

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

Loved this game, played it solid offline and online until GOW came out. Havent been back to it since which says a lot for GOW.

But i think the graphics are amazing and again the atmosphere is good (although not true 5.1) I am going to go back to it once I have completed GOW on insane. Great game, can see it lasting for me online as well.

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

If this is either the first 360 game you have played or the first COD then i can see how you would give this an 8, 9 or 10 otherwise its a 7. Offline just isnt up to it im afraid.

6/10. Enjoyed the single player game but feel it was let down badly by the bugs in the game. The game freezing for no reason is in my opinion unacceptable!! Online play is good just not as enjoyable as CoD2, plus again the freezing issue. Its really frustrating when half way thru a war the game just stops. I just hope these issues have gone when CoD4 hits the shelves!

I give it a 8. Very good game but annoyingly buggy. Nothing worse than being shot through a wall when playing on veteran.
Online is pretty good too but GOW rules at the moment.

lol, fair point, think it would be very difficult for any WWII game to be classed as Genre Defining now.

What freezing issue? Hasn't frozen on me once! Are you sure it's not your disc or your 360?

Re: Call of Duty 3: Reviews

It’s a bit strange tbh. I don’t get any disk read error message and no red lights of doom it just freezers for no apparent reason. Every other game I own runs perfectly well. It’s the second copy 2 cos I changed the first one cos of the freezing issue. I know from reading the other thread I wasn’t the only one who encountered this problem

COD3 - How much better than COD2?

I haven't played either of them, and I would like to know how much better COD3 is than COD2. I was going to buy COD2 as it is cheap, then wait for COD3 to go cheap, but if COD3 is a LOT better then I will get that.

So basically if you hadn't played any of them would you get COD2 now, then COD3. Or the other way round, becasue I might like COD3 too much, and find COD2 to be a dissapointment.

ALL offline play by the way.

Re: COD3 - How much better than COD2?

Hi,

Can't comment on COD3 (so no help there!), but I recently started playing COD2 and am thoroughly enjoying it, and at some point in the future when I'm done with 2, I'll buy COD3. That way I can enjoy both. Like you said, probably better doing it that way, that playing 3 first then going back to 2.

From what I've read, the graphics of COD3 are better than 2, though the single-player game isn't really much advanced from 2 - not that that's necessarily a bad thing!

Re: COD3 - How much better than COD2?

the gameplay is *very* similar on both.

the graphics and sound are improved in COD3 but it does have it's flaws.

In the end i would say get COD 3 as if you played COD 2 and loved it you will only naturally want COD 3.

COD 2, imho of course doesn't offer anything that COD 3 hasn't got. (to get your money's worth though make sure you start on one of the harder settings)

Re: COD3 - How much better than COD2?

As already stated CoD2 & 3 are very similar in terms of gameplay style but CoD3 has a couple of nice additions such as the ability to return 'nades but CoD3 does prove one thing and that is that there is no life left in the WWII shooter as from the storyline it is clear that every major battle has now been exploited.

Re: COD3 - How much better than COD2?

i like it!
and the 1st level alone is great! lots of action like you see in a blockbuster movie, great graphics with no slow down,
u feel pinned down! which is good!

i prefer the sniper in cod2 a bit easier, but as a whole its good, makes a good one player game, a good showcase game to show ur mates that aint got one and a good pary game 4 of u against others on live.

but yes i think the ww2 plot cant be pushed anymore, me thinks they should now perhaps try a more modern setting, gulf war? vietnam?

Re: COD3 - How much better than COD2?

simple as this:

COD2 for single player, better story, more interesting levels

COD3 for multi player, weak story, rubbish levels, but great multiplayer options and the levels work so much better on xbox live than they do in the campaign
