Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Xbox 360 reviews

I have been a PES addict from day one and in the early days (1-5) they released a new game with brilliant subtle changes, which, initially made you think they'd messed things up until it clicked. You then realised they were improvements.

To next Gen, 6 was a very competent starter, and importantly online was near flawless.

2008 and 2009 - hmm problems had crept in, but i still got enjoyment from single player with ML as engrossing and satisfying as it ever was.

2010... OH DEAR. Konami have messed this up in so many ways it is very annoying, frustrating and sad. New features are porr compared to what went before, eg sliders taking away proper tactical control and directional run options for players.

They have changed things that worked fine and inexplicable messed them up, and even the fundamentals of the gameplay have been ruined. The oppos maintain the ball and pass at lightning speed, the pressure option is watered down and all your team drop off so you are too far from the player to have any impact before they've passed it on. Plus the AI of your own players and the opposition is ver bad. Eg. I was losing 1-0 in a match so set all out attack tactic and attack level to max... one striker i controlled was chasing a defender down making him run to his own goal, and instead of supporting me as they should, my team mates turned and ran backwards..... they only "engage" in your tactics it would appear if you have the ball....

I tried to like it as i desperately wanted a decent PES, but it's not there i'm afraid.

Therefore i have classed it as worthless as it is inferier to every version that came before it in my opinion, regardless of how good the player likenesses are.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Xbox 360 reviews

I've gave it a really good going over online....and it is just too FRUSTRATING to play.

PES 6 was god like. IS god like. Smooth! SMOOTH! This online?

The teleporting is gone, but the players.....struggle like they are on a big invisible elastic band.

How are hulking cb's catching Fernando Torres in full flight?

It's ok in single player. The presentation is good, for a change. Good music, but certain things like....when I'm setting up online, I often run out of time, trying to figure out who to mark! When you change your player's default positions, you used to have a shadow of where the opposition players are situated.

I like to have my defenders a few clicks behind where the opposition forwards are. It's a nightmare to sort this out now.

Some really shoddy decisions.

I will muck about with one-player and get the achievements (though most are linked to Master League now it'd appear) and then I'm regretfully getting rid.

I didn't like Fifa 09, but everyone's got it and 10. I need to have a footy game of some sort.

Someone summed it up good - there's a decent game in there somewhere trying to get out.

But online is far too random. I'm getting beat off of idiots.

Utterly worthless.

Kept it for about 2 weeks & lost my patience.

I expect a heck of alot more from a game.

Back to PES6 for me.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Xbox 360 reviews

It's a 7/10 game for me.

I would love to rate it higher as the gameplay is brilliant, classic PES, and most of all great fun. To rate this game as worthless says to me that you never really liked PES at all. But this is, at it's core, still the same game I played back on the PS2. In fact it's nowhere near PES5 which is still the best football game I've ever played. PES5 as an all-round package is better than this. It has better animations (!), twice as many stadia, better edit mode, German league etc, etc.

This game will give me many months play and the master league is addictive as ever. I much prefer this to Fifa 10 because of the superior player individuality, better feel to the shooting and just the weightier feel to the gameplay in general (Fifa feels like I'm kicking a balloon around). After two years of Fifa - and growing bored with the stale, unemotional gameplay - I was ready to come back to PES, and this game is on the right track. But next year Konami need to overhaul the animations and maybe even the game engine to bring the series up to speed with every other sports franchise. I still can't believe that this is the fourth PES on next-gen and I'm still saying this.

PES 2010 is the game PES 2008 should have been. Had this been Konami's second effort on next-gen I think everyone would have been satisfied. But as it stands, the progress of the series has not been good enough and PES 2010 is a PS2 game in HD clothing. It's time to kick-on Konami. Every other sports franchise is now technically well ahead. By the time Konami get to grips with this generation of consoles it could be too late.

Yes I played the demo and loved it but the final game is better. The response times have been improved slightly. If you like the demo then just get it.

You must be the only person I've seen on a forum that liked PES 2008!

First xbox 360 game is ever bought

its got its flaws (sometimes the lag is awful), but i still enjoy it i believe i'm quite good at it now, so maybe thats why.

Its easy to pick up and play online, which is more or less the appeal to me, plus one of the only games i got i can play with the sound off, i like to listen to the radio while i game, you can't do that with most games these days, always need to be listening out for the enemy and audible instructions.

I think i'm gonna get 2010 then, maybe i should go for the rental first, but the rental is 6 quid, which is like a 5th of the price anyway, so might just buy it "Blind"

I rated it worthless, so by your account i never really liked PES at all.....

Sorry but i find that an arrogant statement, simply because an opinion is different to yours. It is in fact the exact opposite.... I have lovved the ISS / PES franchise since day one on the snes, and have sunk more game hours in the franchise than any other by a mile.... it is for that reason and the fact i've been so in tune with the game that this is so awful.

They have broken so many fundamental basics as to ruin the gameplay comletely and taken the enjoyment from it. AI is abysmal (team mates drop off when opposition get the ball and don't react to strategies etc until you have the ball, opposition play it along the backline even if losing), pressing is severly flawed due to the artificial speed and accuracy of the oppo passsing (even crap teams) combined with your players dropping off, tactics have been taken out of your hands to any decent degree (sliders are crap and very restricted), ML scouting useless (no stats!!) and search options restricted, etc etc, there are too many to mention....

Personally i think the fact you think the gameplay is fantastic makes me wonder to what extent you really delved into the core of past PES's. I voted this worthless, as it is imo worse than every other PES before it, becasue the gameplay is broken. Even 2008, derided by many, played a good game of PES in singleplayer, this doesn't.

Personally i;m back to PES5 on PC and giving FIFA 10 a run on the 360 as this has long gone and it's the first time in god knows how many years i don't have a current PES in my collection....which is rather sad and dissapointing.

I never meant to come across as arrogant and I apologise if that was the case. I just find it hard to believe that a hardcore PES fan could find absolutely nothing at all to like about this game. It's still unmistakably PES - which is a good and a bad thing (lack of progression) - but at least I think that's enough for the game to be more than worthless. But fair enough if you feel that way. The game is full of flaws and the series has regressed in pretty much all areas except graphics since last-gen.

I thought PES2008 was abysmal, PES2009 an improvement and PES2010 another small improvement. But PES5 is still the king for me.

Fair play mate. For me 1,2 and 3 on the ps2 were all great, got 4 and 5 on the PC which were brilliant, especially 5. The next gen has suffered unfortunately when everyone hoped it would herald the definitive version. I thought 6 was actually perfectly good, even lacking some missing options and modes, but it played well (Bar Super, Mr Incredible, Captain Adriano of course...!!) and online was nearly perfect.....

2008 improved he single player game from 6 imo, but had too many glitches with replays etc and online to be considered an improvement, but still decent with ML etc, 2009 i actually thought was really enjoyable in SP and fixed most issues from 08. Didn't try online as a young baby likely to call out for attention during a late night gaming sesh pretty much rules out online opportunities!!

2010 for me promised massively and Konami said all the right things but it just let down in so many ways i was gutted. Graphics aside, which are incredible, especially close up, it has just tried to re-invent too many things that didn't need re-inventing.

My review
Background:
I tried the demo as soon as it was released i actually quite enjoyed it more than the fifa 10 demo, anyway i purchased both fifa and pro evo.

Pro evo 08 and 09 i enjoyed a lot obviously you couldnt play them online as it was gash but nothign beats going round to a mates and playing some pes im afraid this version of pes is utter dross its slow and clunky everytime i put the game on at my mates it lasta about 2 games and we end up playign fifa 10 its just not enjoyable.

4/10
