Prototype - Xbox 360 reviews

Radical brings us Prototype, a free world game which endows the player with many powers, weapons and the ability to destroy everyone and everything in a myriad of increasingly destructive ways.

Please vote in the poll and leave a comment in the thread once you've played enough of the game to judge it.

Re: Prototype - Xbox 360 reviews

Awsome game, it's nice to finally see an open world game that appeals to what gamers really want i.e the ability to kill people in the coolest and most insane ways possible! Ways to improve; the city should have been better designed and the cutscenes needed some improving. Oh, and that slow-mo thing. You see, is seems as though the developers have tryed to use slow mo for a cool effect, but it is poorly done and it goes off every few seconds during hetic combat (which occurs alot in prototype) and so the game gives off the impression of lagging.

other than that, highly recommended, 8/10! (maybe a rent though as i don't see many people playing this after a month or two due to no multiplayer)

Re: Prototype - Xbox 360 reviews

Clocked up nearly 14 hours since Friday which is unheard of for me which says it all really. Love the free-roaming which also aids in building your EP for more upgrades, some cool events, good missions and personally I like the story and cutscenes and web of intrigue etc. Gradually unlocking new abilities keeps the game fresh and there's strategy involved in deciding what weapons and attacks to use against certain enemies etc. Possibly the SP game of the gear for me, though I'm only 17/31 missions in and won't rate until I've completed it. So far it's an 8/9 though.

Re: Prototype - Xbox 360 reviews

I'll add to the love in for this game. It is just incredible. Yes, there maybe a few very small things to nit pick about this game but in the heat of the battle or running across the city, these are very quickly forgotten. I've play 14 or so hours of this and at least 4 of those have been wondering around destroying stuff on infiltrating bases in free roam. The variation in the game is brilliant and it is whatever you make it. Your imagination makes this game great. For example:

I had 3 helicopters near me. I'd airjack the first, jump out, move to the next and do the same. It was so cool watching the first 2 choppers just drop from the air and crush everything on the street below

Another thing I had fun doing was going into a military base and seeing how many people I could kill without firing a shot. I'd stealth consume as many people as possible and when I couldn't do that, I'd patsy some people. Pointless excercise but it was fun to see what I could do with the game

Also my game of the year so far

I agree with what mudstuff says, as he sums up the greatness of the game pretty well.

Although unless anything goes tits up during the last 15 or so missions I'm going to give prototype a 9/10. In terms of gameplay its king, and at the moment its looking like knocking Resi 5 off the top of the mountain as my game of 2009

Re: Prototype - Xbox 360 reviews

I have to say, I'm probably ready to let this one slide. I borrowed a copy thinking I'd buy it, but now I'm not so sure.

Technically, it is quite impressive. The mechanics work reasonably well and the controls are intuitive.

It actually feels like a busy city at times -- the number of people, the number of cars, etc. Way more so than GTA IV. Charging around the city and causing mayhem is fun, but IMO the novelty wears off rather quickly.

Unfortunately for me and Prototype, I started playing Red Faction too. I can't help but compare the two and, much to my surprise (and despite not liking the demo), Red Faction appeals to me far more (though it isn't perfect either). It's more compelling, better paced. The destruction is insane and multiplayer gives the game an extra dimension.

Maybe I was just after something a little... slower? I don't know, I was looking forward to Prototype but I can't see myself putting the time in. I really have no desire to progress the story, etc. I'd have to rate it above average to good at this point.

Re: Prototype - Xbox 360 reviews

I rated this as excellent. It is not with out flaws, graphically it is not an AAA title but in terms of game play, for me, it has been the standout game of the year so far.

Controls are tight and very intuitive, the amount that goes on all at once is impressive and the story itself is pretty good to. Most of all though, I just found it so much fun to play.

It was good fun, only played about 4 or 5 hours, then my save got corrupted, haven't bothered with it since, did anyone else get this glitch?

Yes, (I wish mine had been after only 4-5 hours ).

I'll probably try it again in a few months and this time I'll make sure I keep 2 save files!

Yeah a few people encountered this, I was lucky. As soon as I heard obout it, I made 4 duplicate saves and I'd overwrite them all often, just in case.

5/10 for me - destruction was fun, but some of the gameplay elements grated on me, and I found the whole thing quite repetitive and boring.

It gets the 'meh' award from me. The game has obviously been thoroughly thought about and maybe i didnt give the game long enough, two and a half hours, but it just didnt seem that much fun to me I mean yes there are great upgrades to be earned i understand yes but i feel games like dare i mention the ps3 game infamous is better. Im glad i rented it from lovefilm as i thought the controls were a bit sensitive/glitchy, too much going on e.g. too many pedestrians and vehicles and the graphics dont seem too brilliant. Also, the vocab and script seemed silly for me, too abrupt at times and didnt suit the mood or character. This is my opinion, i feel a hanging coming on here
