Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

I'd heard a rumour that this might happen. The game was supposed to be called Tony Hawk - Adrenaline.

I wonder how strong that board is? I had a brief return to 'real' skateboards when THPS2 came out. Being 6'9" and 18st meant that I snapped 4 in the space of a couple of months.

well now that your cracking on a bit you will start to shrink its the 18 stones that you need to drop funny thing is you dont look fat just the height or the big code head

Looks a little lightweight that board still interesting though

You're a man-mountain!

I think my main concern is whether the board actually works properly, and whether I really want to use it. If I actually wanted to skate, I'd go and by myself a board. I am perfectly happy sitting in my gaming chair not falling over and using a standard controller. This seems like it could be an unnecessary gimick.

Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

The advantage off an xbox over a pc or the wii is the lazyness that can be employed.

Lying back on a sofa with a control and my feet resting on my speackers is my preferred way to relax.

Why would i want to use my whole body to move an graphical representation of me if i could preform the same graphical movement with the press of a button?

Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

Exactly! Also, it might actually be quite hard to pull off a Superdude frontflip using the Tony Hawk peripheral... I think I'd feel like a bit of a plonker jumping off my bed waving my board above my head. Especially when I stacked.

Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

Yeah i'm not sure if i'd buy into this. Like Billy said, where do you draw the line, i mean how am i going to pull off grabs, other than potentially the most simple ones by touching different ends of the peripheral.

Its got the potential to go horribly wrong and i still get a real kick out of the skate controls on my actual controller.

I apply the same thoughts to guitar heroes etc. I play guitar for real and dont really feel enticed to learn it all again with a games peripheral. it just doesnt really appeal to me.

It makes you the fat one from The Goonies. Now truffle shuffle, chunk!

I'm with general consensus on this one. I'm not sure how this could improve on the formula implemented by Skate, or for that matter THPS3. They'll either have to dumb everything down to the point where all you can do is lean, grab and manual, or require use of the 360/ps3 controller anyway.

Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

I'm looking forward to this, but I just cant bring myself around to spending 80 quid on it. Bobby Kotick doesn't half like the smell of green doesn't he!

I've got Skate 1, but to be honest, I found it too fiddley. TH went rubbish but Skate is too far in the other direction. Maybe I need to try and get back into it.

played this at the metrocentre on sunday, both me and my son really liked it - very easy to get the basics, saw all sorts of people on it (varying degrees of aptitude and size/weight) solid board and great fun definate purchase for us.

Not sure if anyone has seen this, but it seems to point the fact that the board marries up quite well with the ingame actions.

These vids are giving me the confidence to pre-order!

Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

Seems day 1 review copies were not sent out to publications due to 'supply issues' - which is pretty worrying (that none were sent, not stock issues!).

Raises some worries about the quality of the title It does look pretty good from the vids, so not sure what the problem is, have to keep looking for some reviews I suppose.

Hopefully YouTube will be full of americans unboxing and playing tonight?

Re: Tony Hawk - Ride

With Skate3 announced and the price this will be, I think i'll have to pass.

I used to love the Tony Hawks games, but I think it's time to admit defeat since Skate was released.

However, if I have a go on this, I will remain totally open minded.. at the end of the day, if it's fun, it's fun!

I'm concerned it will be one of those 5 minute type games. I.e. you have a go and for the first 5 mins its brilliant, then the novelty wears off and you are left with an empty shell.

Unless the reviews ABSOLUTELY stink, then I'll still get it, such a gadget geek!

INTITIAL IMPRESSIONS CREEPING IN....

Quote:
played this game last night, at about 1 oclock after waiting in line with my friend for like 15 minutes to pick it up at 12.

He was the only person in line of like 100 people to pick up this game. Everyone else was getting assasins creed and left for dead 2.

My first impressions of this game are as follows.

- Much better then any other tony hawk game released in last few years. Game is very colorful. Board isn't as bad as people would believe. Like hitting back of board up a little bit makes you ollie.

We where playing on casual though so it wasn't very realistic. Game does seem to have a steep learning curve. I did a kick-flip motion in the air and my character did a kick flip. was pretty easy in that. Randomly hitting the board up and doing some spins resulted in a crazy trick that we obviously didn't do. But we where on casual. Manuals require you to keep your balance.

Graphics are very good.

I only watched for about an hour though then went back to my house.
Sounds hopeful - a reply to this post was as positive too, saying you cannot randomly flick around to get the moves, you have to do the right actions, which is good.

Like Wii Fit?

I'm tempted, but as I'm a hefty 18 stone, I'm not sure the board would last too long.

Plus, there's no room in front of my TV. ~£100 for the game is bad enough, but I don't want to have to shell out for a new TV too after bailing out and sticking my foot through the screen.

Really does seem to be a game people either get, or really dont - no inbetween.

Strange to see some reviews say the board is 'unresponsive' and 'laggy', where others claim its virtually 1:1. Wonder if that is a hardware fault (like a dodgy batch), or just the way people are setting it up?

I'm going into the game prepared for the worst with the board. That is, expecting to have to get used to it over a long period, rather than expecting it to be 1:1 out of the box.

The better reviews of this game do make it sound like a lot of fun though. I'm sure the negative reviews are either hardcore skaters who dont feel like the game is the same as what they experience, or people who either arent very good at physical games or havent set the board up right.

Sounds like absolute garbage, glad I didn't bother with this one. Was quite interested too, as I found Skate too fiddly. Oh well, let's hope Stoked is good, I have that on order.

Good stuff, I've had the sudden urge for a snowboarding game so I hope I enjoy it. To be honest, I think I need to give Skate 1 another chance, as when I played it for the first time on my mates PS3, I loved it. We were just doing a HORSE type mode I think. So that made me buy it on xbox and I couldn't get into it on single player, maybe I just didn't give it enough time to get used to the controls.

The flickit system does take a bit of getting used to, especially if like me you've spent a long time on Tony Hawk games, but when you get it down, it's sublime.
