Red Dead Redemption

This months Gamesmaster has a world exclusive preview. It sounds fantastic, basically GTA in 1908 america's wild west. Story is being penned by award winning writer Dan Houser. This is apparently a very big project that they have wanted to do for a long time.

Graphics look stunning and they are planning to have a proper living, breathing world. When you kill someone, the buzzards in the sky start circling and eventually swoop down to feed on the corpse - along with other little critters like rabbits etc.

Ive been waiting for a decent western era game to come along since Gun's release - looks like this is deffinately going to fill the void.

Got Call Of Juarez 2 comin too. Red Dead Revolver on the PS2 still the best western I played by far tho

Well it says it is using the euphoria engine so I would imagine that they will be using a huge chunk of the GTA engine as well.

Aparantly Red Dead Revolver was developed by Capcom originally, but they decided to drop it and Rockstar picked it up. It was a very arcadey action experience according to the magazine which explains the Capcom roots.

Rockstar have wanted to do a sequel on a huge scale for a long time, so it says.

Yeah i've been watching this since first announced, and it looks fab.

I'm hoping they allow co-op online, so you and a small posse of mates can roam about like the "Free Play" or whatever GTA4 does - and at least they cant have the awful mobile-phone lobby system that game has

As long as it has a better "look" than gta4, which I hated. Then I would love a good cowboy game. YEEEHAAWWWWW

Co-op Posse mode would be awesome, chasing down a gang of rustlers and banditos

As for communication, suppose you would get issued with a native American to send out smoke signals for you.

I think thats just an early tech demo, the screenshots in the magazine look much better and nice and detailed and sharp!

I like it, def keeping a close eye on this.

Nice bit of Euphoria when the guy jumps off the wagon.
Also a cover system.

A few low res textures, this could mean either a massive open world like GTA or work in progress.

Great voice acting as always with Rockstar.

Looks like you play Bill Marsden, the Marshal of a small town that gets over run by villans.

Looks fab IMO - typical caveats of limited info, how will it actually play etc

And the art-work (also in link above) is very reminiscent of Clint Eastwood in various westerns.

One thing i havent seen is if Redemption will crossover with the original's story? I'm also wondering if there will be any quick draw mechanics? I guess if it's online it'd be too hard to implment slow-mo quickdraws, but single-player still might?

Yee haw, that gatlin' gun sure looks powerful handy!

Graphics wise i would expect them simlar to Bad Company in a good way. Bad Company's graphics are arguably the best.

Online wise i would love an attack defence mode where you defend a town or something but there are lots of online modes they could play with. Imagine a World of Warcraft type online where we can all wonder around

. Never played those types of games but would be kl in Red Dead.

Call of Juarez and Gun were two of my favs watched the preview last night and i reckon this will be up there.....

I remember Red Dead on the Xbox but I didn't rate it too high, reckon this will though

To me, this looks a lot more appealing that GTAIV which I didn't get on with at all. If it turns out to be as good as it looks and doesn't port over the crap elements of GTAIV (the lack of mid-mission checkpoints, the dodgy combat, the dull missions) it could well be a worthy Game of the Year contender.

With Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood due in June it'll have a head start, and it's a FPS.

I've got my eye on both of them as they both look good
