Alpha Protocol (UK Release: 28 May 2010)

Really surprised there is not already a thread here for this game but since my search did not turn one up I figured I would create one.

Its made by Obsidian Entertainment, who made Fallout and it is a Spy RPG which mixes RPG and action game styles.

You can see the official site for the game here and some stills and videos here and the latest video for the game here

Looks very good so far and will be interesting to see how it pans out, release is scheduled for October this year.

Walkthrough video here:

Looks quite good, reminds me very much of Mass Effect, just in modern times.

Re: Alpha Protocol

I think this is looking great, it's about time we had an espionage game with more depth after the run and gun stylings of Bourne Conspiracy and that lame game of 24 on the PS2.

This could eclipse Assassin's Creed 2 as the must-buy third person action adventure. Release says 30th Oct.

Here's another video for it: IGN Video: Alpha Protocol Xbox 360 Walkthrough - Walkthrough Trailer 2

The release date still says March 12th but nothing new anywhere since mid-October that I know of. It was being delayed so they could really polish it up apparently.

I want to get this bumped and some chat going on it again as the release date of May 28th draws near.

I've done a quick comparison of purchase options so far, as I did with Dragon Age: Origins.

HMV: £29.99 - no preorder bonus announced so far, but cheap price.

Amazon: £37.70 - "Pre-order Alpha Protocol with us at Amazon.co.uk and you'll receive a free 24 page Field Guide. SEGA and Obsidian are pleased to provide this Field Guide to the weapons, skills, and abilities in Alpha Protocol to help you reach your objective - consult it when building your character, use it as a roadmap for what weapons, skills, and abilities to employ in the field."

GAME: £37.99 - with a Stealth Pack preorder bonus code. "Includes 2 exclusive weapons and early access to the Advanced Pistol and SMG."

Play: £39.99 - with an Assault Pack preorder bonus code. "Includes two exclusive weapons and gives access to an advanced shotgun and rifle as soon as you start the game."

Gamestation: £37.99 - with a Stealth Pack preorder bonus code. "Includes 2 exclusive weapons and early access to the Advanced Pistol and SMG." So the same bonus as GAME.

Gameplay: £37.99 - "Preorder Alpha Protocol on Xbox 360 and receive the Stealth Pack to become the ultimate stealth spy! Includes 2 Exclusive weapons and gives you early access to an advanced pistol and SMG as soon as you start your game."

The Gameplay price was previously £32.99 but they raised it by a fiver! How nice of them.

Seen a few videos for this and it looks pretty good and impressive. I'm yet to be convinced by all the hype surrounding Red Dead Redemption, so i'll probably look at getting this (release dates within a week, i'll only get one of them at first). Though UFC and Blur are released in the same week, decisions, decisions!

I think this will be a pick-up on the day from the high street as got few games I'm thinking of trading in.

Different pre-order deals around though, Game give you a stealth pack and somewhere else gives you an explosive/assault pack I believe (or something like that, can't remember where or what exactly).

Ha indeed you did

I'll probably get it from a Game store, so might be able to get them to give me a code, they usually have spares.

HEADS UP!!!

Nice pre-order price drop, which I have now amended at post no.7 above as well.

HMV - £29.99!!

hmv.com: games: Alpha Protocol (2010)

Still a few more pence than shopto though.

Pretty good deal, though Amazon suck in terms of delivery and you can probably find all the information on-line anyway.

I'm sticking to picking it up in-store on release day as it'll be pay day and i want to trade in a few games.

I've found a new bonus with Gameplay which works out cheaper than Game or Gamestation. See post no. 7, again!

EDIT: This is no longer true. Gameplay whacked the price up by a fiver in the last week leading up to release.

Yet another price undercutting, this time at Zavvi for £29.45

CORRECTION: They whacked it up to £37.95, with no pre-order bonus, so cheapest is at Shopto.

I'm really undecided about buying options, might even wait until it's cooled down and reduced to £17.99 somewhere, since there's no MP and Red Dead is out in two days!

Not a bad idea i guess, though i won't be picking up RDR, find those type of games awfully repetitive and boring after a few hours into them. If i find out that's not the case with RDR then i may reconsider.

Looking forward to this game and it makes a chance to your normal run & gun fps.
The rpg side looks fun and have read today single player will take around 30 hrs but it sounds like it will be worth the money

Taken from another site - Alpha Protocol needs 100+ hours - Xbox360Achievements.org

There are also several factions within the game and a range of different people you can align with to ensure your experience of Alpha Protocol is different from other people. You won’t be able to complete every single mission in one play-through (which will take you around 30 hours), so if you want to play everything you are going to need around 100 hours of spare time.

100 hrs of spare time bloody hell

Hmmm... never heard of this game until I read this thread. Having read the comments here and on some of the links posted it does seem like a game I'd be interested in.

Having only bought RDR last weekend though I'd be hard pushed to justify a purchase of yet another new game. Thing is, I'm not really enjoying RDR and Alpha Protocal does sound more like my cup of tea having played through games such as ME/ME2 and Fallout 3.

Maybe I'll trade in RDR. Decisions, decisions..

I know it may take the conversation off topic, but why are you not enjoying RDR?

This is a day 1 purchase for me though, roll on Friday and the long weekend

It's sad that SEGA aren't doing more to promote this game ahead of release, and perhaps a bad sign, but do they bother to market anything that isn't Sonic?

I'm awaiting some reviews now but nothing so far.

To re-phrase, I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. Having read the reviews and having enjoyed GTA IV I thought that I'd be hooked to RDR - but I'm not. Maybe I've not given it enough time. I played for around 4 hrs on Fri night and was enjoying the game. Then played on and off over the weekend sneaking about 1hr at a time. After the weekend play I've just been left with the feeling that the game is mediocre. It's too like GTA, in fact it is GTA but in the Wild West. Having enjoyed GTA IV you'd think that this would be a plus for RDR but because I find it so like GTA I think it's familiarity that's putting me off.

Anyway, I'm not going to give up on it just yet. I'm going to try and get a few hrs in tonight.

I eagerly await a proper review of Alpha Protocol. I did a bit of googling and came across some unreferenced, foriegn reviews that were rating it at about 8/10. Interesting to see what IGN gives it (although some of their reviews seem to miss the mark sometimes (for me anyway)).

Now this is sort of why i haven't picked it up yet. Don't get me wrong, GTA is a very good game, however i found it very boring after a while and personally i can see the same happening with RDR. It's certainly a game i'll try out some day, when it's going cheap on the classifieds or something.
