Section 8 (UK Release: 11 Sept 2009)

Not much to go on about this sci-fi FPS but to check the art style, downloads and some plot background details, go to the official website: Join Section 8

or Xbox's own page for it: Xbox.com | Section 8â„¢ - Game Detail Page

At the official game site you'll see the chance to sign up for the beta.

Developed by TimeGate Studios and published by SouthPeak Interactive. 2-16 multiplayer and single player campaign. UK release is down as Sept 25th (so say Amazon).

Cinematic trailer is up on the marketplace. Looks very Halo/Crysis/Haze graphically but with Quake Wars gameplay? Could be another Battlefield/Frontlines type game which suits me fine.

Some gameplay videos. Not looking great (as in 5 years out of date) but perhaps the graphics and animations will be optimised before launch and the core gameplay is being focused on now.

There's an E-magazine been produced for this game now:

Less than a month to launch and I haven't heard about the beta though

Re: Section 8 (UK Release: Late 2009)

Demo is okay. It's multiplayer, although I've only played against bots so far, as I have no idea what's really going on yet!

A bit like Killzone 2, there seem to be sequential missions all on one map, without pause. If you win VIP Escort, it moves to Capture the Intel, for example. This is a good thing. Graphics are a bit basic. Haven't tested out lag yet, but the gameplay is quite fast (you have an automatic hyperboost/overdive thingummy that kicks in if you sprint for a couple of seconds). Doesn't seem to be massive recoil on the weapons, though - not always a bad thing, but I think sniping will prove to be too easy. Could be a problem.

Not 100% sure on it yet - could be a bit too run-of-the-mill - but certainly merits further investigation. Not terrible by any means

Also, I don't yet know if you can join friends in the demo, as I haven't tried.

Re: Section 8 (UK Release: Late 2009)

Currently trying out the offline bots mode and am appalled but not surprised at how bad this is.

Graphics that lack the hi-def textures and details we expect of today's games. Look at the ground, walls and trees. Walk up to a comms console and see how blurry the detail is on it. Look at how bad smoke looks after an explosion.

Uninspired animation, cliched design, clunky controls that need remapping.

Compare this against any current gen MP shooter of any age: GRAW; BFBC; Quake Wars; R6V - and it clearly stinks. It'll be bargain bin bound in no time and is hardly any better than arcade live game Cell Factor, except this will be at least £30 at release.

To think that I started this preview thread.

Re: Section 8 (UK Release: Late 2009)

As I say above, £30 at release if you shop around on the pre-order:

Games 4u: Section 8 Xbox 360

Click-a-Game: Section 8 Xbox 360

Chipsworld: Section 8 Xbox 360

Although why would you want to?

Re: Section 8 (UK Release: 11 Sept 2009)

I tried the demo and hated it. Admittedly I only played it for about half an hour, but I would agree with pretty much everything Covert Recon said. Horrible control and movement, terrible graphics and totally outdated.

Re: Section 8 (UK Release: 11 Sept 2009)

Ive gone from awfull to playable so hopefully i should be able to play through the campaign.

*EDIT*

Nope, i'm sticking with my original thoughts... it really is awfull, dull boring and extremely outdated. This game reminds me of the Haze fiasco all over again. I watched a video with one of the developers going on about how its going to be a genre defining masterpiece with a totally unique multiplayer
Theres nothing genre defining or unique about any of the modes, its very very basic in every aspect, especially the graphics.
