Sniper Elite V2 (UK Release: 2012)

Sniper Elite V2 announced for 2012 News - - Page 1 | Eurogamer.net

Quote:
505 Games and British developer Rebellion have announced Sniper Elite V2, due for release next year.

It's a sequel to the well received Sniper Elite of 2005, plunging once more into the patient boots of a secret agent sniper during World War II.

Actual details on Sniper Elite V2 are scarce. Platforms mentioned are "the current generation of consoles"; there's nothing said about PC.

"Sniper Elite has always been the benchmark of the genre and never been bettered - until now," said 505 MD Ian Howe.

"Guaranteed that the sequel will be the most authentic WWII sniping experience ever – not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter."

Eurogamer awarded Sniper Elite 7/10. All that was missing, we rued, was the budget afforded by a big publisher - both to spruce up presentation and to lavish on marketing.

"Yet what lies beneath its rather unspectacular veneer is a really well designed game that approaches the conflict from a different angle and provides a solid platform for a hugely entertaining game," wrote Eurogamer's then editor Kristan Reed.
Good news for me

The Nazis won't be pleased with this

ASSASSINATE THE FUHRER

505 Games and Rebellion have revealed Sniper Elite V2’s exclusive pre-order bonus for the ultimate mission – Assassinate The Führer.

Fans who pre-order Sniper Elite V2 from any UK retailer prior to May 4, the UK launch date, will gain access to this ultimate single player mission as well as two new weapons – the Soviet semi-automatic battle rifle SVT-40 and the standard German service rifle Kar 98.

You have one chance to change history – intel has been received that Hitler is returning from Berchtesgaden to Berlin via his personal train. Players must intercept the train as it waits at the station and take down the Fuhrer as he hastily makes way for the station on foot. There is only a single opportunity for players to do what so many wish had been done – take out the leader of the Third Reich.

One chance. One bullet. Make it count.

publisher 505 Games has told Joystiq that a demo for Rebellion's upcoming reboot is scheduled to arrive in April, one month ahead of the game's May release. The demo will be made available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though "the final date is not yet scheduled," the publisher told us.

Really looking forward to this, the original game passed me by though. But back in the day I used to love the Hidden and Dangerous series and this seems to have the same atmosphere.

Just for once it would be nice to not have to worry about finding stuff and just concentrate on playing the game.

The demo, which sees you reprise your role as Karl Fairburne, the undercover American OSS agent from the first game, will showcase a special mission set amongst the crumbling streets and houses of the town of Schöneberg .

Spoiler Tags

You'll need to stealthily infiltrate your way through the shattered ruins of Schöneberg evading German troops and occupying enemy forces. Once in position, you'll lay a booby-trap to take out a vehicle in an armoured convoy which is carrying a Nazi expert in rocket engine technology, as well as recover top secret documents that will eventually lead you to unearthing a covert V2 rocket production facility.

Sounds intriguing and we're very much looking forward to giving this a go, being something of Sniper Elite fans. And with some gorily impressive kill cams being just one of many new additions, it's fair to say v2 has our sniping instincts are properly aroused.

Voice acting, graphics, sound, tutorial tips and gameplay were all great. I played on Sniper Elite and the enemy are ruthless. The enemy AI is very well done. My only quibble is that I wish I could use the back button to steady aim. At the mo it's RB and Fire is RT which when pressed together is too tricky. So I wish that there is greater button customisation.

Other than that - Fantastic game.

I concur, only played a couple of minutes so far, but amazing game, looking forward to the full release.

Nice little Kill Cam Vid.

Yep another thumbs up here as well .

Put the AI on Elite in the custom setting and was shot to ribbons . The demo level seems a bit linear but I'm sure there will be more depth in the full game.

I think you get more points for: A collateral headshot; collateral kill; Killing someone moving; Vital Kill (Whatever that was) and Killing someone at a long distance.

The cover system is kinda bugged. I hid behind a car and the tool tip "A" appeared and when I pressed it nothing happened.

I'm going to try and plant a booby trapped dead body and perfect those headshots, seeing someone's brains splatter out is amazing. I'm going to give it another go later on in the evening. Too bad the demo is like 5-10mins long.

But the AI; animated kills; bullet drop + wind direction factor; and atmosphere is what I'm really impressed by. Shooting someone in the arm won't kill them, but then their allies will come to aid them.
