Re: tropico 3

I bought this for my wife last week and she really likes it. So far seems to have all the features of the PC version (based on the demo) only it's much better looking on the 360 than on my creaking old PC.

The controls do look quite complicated but she seems to have picked them up pretty well for what I can tell.

Hope this helps.

Ive been quite tempted myself with this one, a lack of reviews at time of release is usually a worrying sign though!. Just bought the new 360 magazine and they give it 2 out of 5!. A rental for me i think.

Re: Tropico 3 (UK Release: 20 Nov 09)

I think that can be viewed in a positive way to be honest in that it plays like a traditional PC strategy game so I doubt many console magazines will give it high marks considering it's lack of peers and the kind of reviewers that work on console mags.

I think it's safe to say if you like the original game and it's expansion this is much the same but in 3D and mapped to a control pad rather than a mouse.

Having said all that I wouldn't pay full price for it if it was for me but then this isn't really my kind of game.

Horses for courses but like I said before if this is your kind of thing (my wife likes these games on PC and really likes this) I don't think there is a better example on the 360 as it appears to be an uncut version of the PC game unlike Civilization Revolution, which is the only other good console strategy game that springs to mind.

Kalypso Media has popped a Tropico 3 demo on Xbox Live Marketplace. Gold members have access today but Silver members need to wait until Wednesday 25th November.

The sampler guides you through the tutorial and then offers one of two missions. The first is called Bananas and revolves around exploiting your new land and people to grow and export the fruit. The second mission, Second Chance, follows you onto a new island after your twin overthrows your government and drives you out. With only rich iron ore deposits to exploit, your new home looks, on the surface, rubbish.

The Tropico 3 demo weighs 1GB and can be queued for download on the Xbox website.

Tropico 3 has been released on PC and Xbox 360 already. We reviewed the PC version and slapped 8/10 on the end. Worthy of consideration, as the accompanying text points out.
