Thumbs up Dead Space 2 (UK Release: January 28 2011)

Seems Dead Space 2 is on it's way 2010!

Quote:
Really? Are people really surprised by this? The story goes that Reuters of all places has "let slip" the fact that Visceral's Dead Space 2 is going to be released next year. EA has never officially confirmed the game, but we all knew it was coming, and I think very few people didn't expect to see it next year.

Too right, Dead Space was the first game that actually made me jump when
playing through it. Felt a little short in the end but hell of a good game.

It made me jump too, great game. Not as scary as Doom 3 on the original xbox though.

Re: Dead Space 2

Dead Space was a great game (other than that shooting asteroids bit).

It was one of those games I came to very late on as I didn't like the idea of that zero gravity stuff I saw in the previews and reviews but when I did actually play it I realised I was missing out on a great game with a fantastic Horror/Sci-Fi setting and atmosphere.

can't wait to play Dead Space 2.

Let's hope they keep it survival horror like the first one and not go down the Resident Evil route

EA Brings the Terror to Space in Dead Space 2
Sequel to Award-Winning Horror Game Delivers Intense, Personal Saga That Sends Chills Through Deep Space

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec 07, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) studio announced today that the award-winning Dead Space(TM) franchise will continue to frighten gamers with its stunning sequel, Dead Space 2. Hero Isaac Clarke returns for another heart-pounding adventure, taking the fight to the Necromorphs in this thrilling action-horror experience. New tools to gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs complement Isaac's signature Plasma Cutter, empowering him as he meets new characters, explores epic Zero-G environments, and fights against a relentless necromorph onslaught. Survival isn't the only thing on Isaac's mind in Dead Space 2 - this time, he calls the shots.

"Like so many gamers worldwide, we love the Dead Space franchise and are very excited to announce a new game in the series," said Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. "Visceral Games is quickly becoming known for delivering high-quality, action-packed games. Dead Space 2 is on target to deliver a jaw-dropping experience gamers won't soon forget."

"We're thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac's journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing!" said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producerof Dead Space 2. "In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you."

Originally launched in 2008, Dead Space quickly became one of EA's top rated wholly-owned intellectual properties. With close to 100 industry awards and an average critic score of 89*, Dead Space became a hit with horror and videogame fans worldwide. In 2009, EA launched Dead Space Extraction, a prequel to the original Dead Space that expanded the fiction and brought the franchise to a new audience base.

Dead Space 2 is being developed for the PlayStation(R)3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system and on PC. You guys need a kick up the bottom. One of the best single player games on the xbox and you've not finished it

Guns you only have couple of levels to go, should take you a couple of hours...sort it

Tones don't forget Bioshock2 is out in February if you want to run through Bioshock 1 again first.

Ill tell you why ive not finished it, its at a bit where im at an airlock and have to destroy some asteroids in a room or something, ive got virtually no health and almost no ammo, and it happens to have saved after i triggered some enemies so i spawn, faff for a bit and die, put it down and never came back to it, might dust it off and give it a look in preperation for 2 though, from what i remember is was really enjoying it.

You can have any number of saves if I remember correctly. If you've not got an old save you'll have to start again by the sounds of it. You could probably burn through it quite quickly as you'll be better second time through

Mind you Dead Space 2 won't be out for a while so you'll have plenty of time.

Lots of scans and info being released for this now, I'm getting quite excited. I thought the first game was wonderful.

I think there's a world exclusive video preview on the VGA's tomorrow.

New Dead Space 2 Details Emerge, Confirms Online Multiplayer

US, December 10, 2009 - EA's Visceral Games studio is making sure fans won't get too comfortable with Dead Space 2.

The newest issue of GameInformer magazine sent out to subscribers drops new details on Isaac Clarke's second space-horror voyage. Here are some of the highlights from the issue.

The biggest difference fans will notice is Dead Space 2's location. Gone are the small, cramped corridors and hallways of the Ishimura mining vessel. Players will now find themselves in Sprawl, a space station built around one of Saturn's moon shards, and will introduce larger, more vast fighting areas.

Series protagonist Isaac Clarke is also getting a personality upgrade. This time around, he'll actually talk rather than just run around grunting and breathing heavily.

"He's a little bit more of a veteran, and he's going to have a voice," executive producer Steve Papoutsis told the magazine. "He's going to relate through dialogue and story, and have more of a take-charge attitude this time around."

The team is also set on revamping the pacing from the original. Rather than making players feel vulnerable throughout the entire game, the sequel promises times where players will feel superior, such as acquiring a new weapon. Fans will be given time to catch their breath throughout, which promises to add variety to the sequel's intensity.

The combat remains largely the same. Strategic dismemberment will be back. This time, however, the team will be adding new weapons, such as a javelin gun, that will hopefully deter players from always relying on the plasma cutter found in the original.

The developers confirmed there will be online components to Dead Space 2, but would not elaborate at this time.

"From the start of this project, we've had a team of people working on this. It's a core feature to the game; we're taking it very serious, as we do with anything in the Dead Space franchise, said Papoutsis. "All I can say is that it's really fun, and you'll get to strategically dismember your friends."

The issue should be hitting newstands shortly. Check it out for the full read.

Wonder If They'll have a carry-over system like Mass Effect 2? That would be sweet.

Agreed, that's one of the things that made the game so full of tension. Can't wait for this.

Also, if anyone reading this hasn't played the first game, click the link in my sig for the chance to win it in time for Christmas.

Thoroughly loved Dead Space even though Im still stuck at some no doubt easy part on level 5 (the bit with all the beasties in the lab and the big beastie) I may have to get back into it and get it finished.

Great news about the sequel and as long as they keep a similar style etc and dont mess about with it too much then I will be very happy.

The first Dead Space is one of my favourite games of all time! Seriously! It had all the best aspects from survival horror along woth excellent sound and some of the best graphics this generation. I can say with confidence it is one of the top 10 games to come out on the Xbox 360 so far!

Dead Sapce 2 is shaping up to be a great sequel, I cannot wait to see more on it.

I can't wait for this. I think it probably will be out late this/early next year, seeing as we're only getting the short unveiling trailers now.

Anyway, I was one of the ones who didn't pick this up until this year (shame on me). I knew of it at release but I think I was too busy playing so many other games at the time so it went off my radar. Managed to pick it up for around 6-7 quid a couple months ago and has to be the best bargain I've ever had. It really reminded me of what it was like playing Resident evil on Playstation when it first came out; it felt fresh and new and unlike any survival horror I'd played before. Just an amazing game, even if I did get lost with the story a few times, haha. o_O

Yes I can only echo what you guys have said. I was late to the show as well and got a great game for a great price. Still the best sound in any game I've played so far. If Dead Space 2 is more of the same then that'll do me

I hope they improve the melee aspect of it, felt horrible/clunky trying to hit something. Weapons on the other hand were class.
