Risen: Fantasy RPG (UK Release: Early 2010)

Well i did a search for this and couldnt find a thread so i thought i would start one. Maybe a tad late though as it is due for release next friday 2/10/09. The game is a fantasy rpg set on some mythical island and is developed by Piranha Bytes.

Considering rpgs are the only games i actually enjoy playing i have been watching this for a while.

The reviewer certainly appears to like it and i have to say i am looking forward to sticking this in the 360 and giving it a whirl.

I might be interested in this if it gets half decent reviews!

Shopto have it for £28.99 delivered.

I've just read that PC review and it sounds great! A little less hand holding than Oblivion by all accounts - which is a good thing (and the reason I preferred Morrowind)

I'd not noticed this one. I really hope that it can buck the trend of German RPGS. Namely being extremely buggy and having almost incomprehensible dialog.

It has been delayed for the american market only. Europe and the rest of the world will get it as scheduled.

There seems to be a distinct lack of reviewage for this game seeing as it's released on Friday! I've seen a couple of foreign reviews and the one the OP linked to, but none of the major sites seem to have any up.

I want to pre-order, but I really want to read some reviews first!

It hasn't had much press pre-release, but I have still preordered it!

If you google it, you can find a few reviews. Everyone I have seen has been above 80%, so that was good enough for me.

Also have take into account that it's a long game and will need some time for reviewers to play through!

Ah. I missed the preorder at shopto and would like to play this tomorrow so wondering if anyone knows where is usually the best place to buy in store. If you do let me know please.

It's not a very high profile release unfortunately, so I would imagine your best bet would be the Game/ Gamestation type shops. Not much chance of an opening day deal there then - probably £44.99 or something ridiculous! Are you sure you can't wait an extra day and get it for £28.99 from shopto? I think you'd save at least a tenner!

Anyone manage to get it today? If so, what's it like - all the reviews are foreign and thet translations are a bit ropey!

Did you read the Eurogamer review of this? 4/10. Pretty typical Germna RPG from what I can see.

Arrived this morning, I did think of not bothering and selling on after the recent 360 reviews.
I have only played it for 30 mins so far, so I can only give you my first impressions.

Well the graphics aren't great........more like an xbox game, think Morrowind and not Oblivion

The combat seems clumsy, but there are some mechanics around it so when I get the hang of it, I think it will improve.
Story is your typical old school RPG, not much given away at the beginning!

Can't really tell you any more yet, I guess if you like old school RPG's you will forgive it's faults and be drawn in.
Put it this way, I quite enjoyed Two Worlds. If you enjoyed that you will probably enjoy Risen
