Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

Is it me or it this year a little scarse on the games this time round, for the last couple of years i always remember thinking im gonna have to start selling body parts to keep up with all the great games coming out.

For some reason this year i dont have a huge list of games to buy!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Brutal Legend
Halo 3: ODST
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony & LATD

Thats it

Whats the deal!? are all the publishers running scared from the tag team combination of MW2 & Halo:ODST?

A quick look at 2010 spring and it seems to be a refugee camp for titles which didnt think they could survive the harsh christmas competition.

Or have devlopers finally realised they can release games at times other than christmas finally?

Or maybe there are just less games i like, maybe ill use the opportunity to get into a type of game ive not really liked before, maybe ill try Forza 3...

Whatever the reason at least my wallet can breathe a sigh of relief this year!

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

All depends what sort of games you are into...

Forza 3
Left 4 Dead 2
Assassins Creed II
and Ghostbusters (if you haven't imported or played the PS3 version)

There are others I'm interested in but I'll wait and see how they turn out.

I'm seeing a lot of sequels and usual suspects on your Xmas wants lists there.

New IPs such as Borderlands and Alpha Protocol have got my attention. Check the preview threads.

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

I think there's quite a good run-in to Christmas, personally!

My must-buys:

Halo: ODST
Borderlands
Modern Warfare 2 (which is one game a month until Christmas, plenty good enough for me!)

Other games I'm keeping an eye (but need to know more about) include:
Dragon Age: Origins
Brutal Legend
Operation Flashpoint
the new Codemasters driving one with weapons
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Fusion

and more that I can't remember right now.

And when you consider that Blood Bowl, AvP, Mass Effect 2, BF:BC2 and Bioshock 2 are all out early next year, that's quite a mouth-watering prospect.

How could I forget Left 4 Dead 2?! Unless the reviews are shocking, that's also a must-buy.

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

HaloDST
Borderlands
Homefront (if that's this year?)
Starwars Battlefront 3...
Fifa 10
MW2 (at a reasonable price - this might be off the list until next year or a borrow/renter)
There'll no doubt be a few others creeping in here but I think that levelling up with Borderlands will probably take up most of my time (if it's anywhere near as good as I hope it will be) - I love my online coop games and with it being a levelling up one as well it's something I'll plow lots of offline hours into too.

Unless the other half has other ideas for my time (unless she's got good ideas for my time that is )

And then there's any good arcade releases too to worry about... need a higher wage methinks lol

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

I only have a few 'must buys' being:

FIFA10
MW2
Forza 3

All the rest i'll be renting, and purchasing if it warrents it.

There's always a few that go undetected then pop up as a great game (eg Prototype).

A few of my other wants have slipped to 2010.

So yes i think it will be a quiet Xmas for buying games (thank god), but def happy with what i'll be playing on my 360 this xmas.

I've stopped buying new stuff altogether. I'm mildly interested in Prototype, Batman and AC2, but will wait for the prices to come down.

Really couldn't care less about ODST or MW2. Perhaps my age is finally catching up to me.

On my list are:

ODST
MW2
AC 2
Left 4 Dead 2 (yet to oder this though)

Can't believe only 1 person has mentioned Op Flash, it's looking like it could be pretty sweet. I can't be going crazy with the spending though, so I'll wait on a demo and see how it turns out.

Anyone feel that we need more sequels to be released?

ODST is the only game I need to buy this year

although I was more in the Frontlines camp than BF and if they could make a working FL I'd most likely end up back there... God how I miss being up in the hills covering my mate while he's taking bases with the wee recon guy's gun. It used to be so much fun, the games I had with you guys were cracking too although I never quite managed to get enough of them going lol was a bit too shy about inviting AVFer's to games back then cos I was just a newbie here

You weren't much into Halo or Modern Warfare though were you? I don't think it's fair of you to think you're getting on a bit just because you're not into their sequels! Don't start thinking you're old! - Hmm.. Where're my smileys? Lol seems like I'm shouting at you but I swear there were some grins in there

I'm with you on the not buying new stuff in the most part, unfortunately Tetlee/Arcade releases have tapped into my gaming 'realm' of pick and playiness for me to save money properly. I think I currently have enough just now to keep me ticking over so all the games I will be picking up from my list will generally be on the cheap... Or on the as cheap as possible anyways lol

the games looking great, there are new characters, weapons, etc, plus whereas before u could take the same route, this time if u go down a street u went before then it will be blocked off the next time, stops people from blazing through, and the bridge part forces u to keep moving as the military blow the bridge up in sections i have heard so u can't just stand and fight.

the swamp looks good too, u can't see the zombies much but u can hear them nearby, also the witch moves now rather than sitting in one place, and i have heard the zombies move depending on how light or dark the area is.

can't wait.

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

there's a game out next year called BRINK which is going to be 8-player co-op, it will be teams or u can even have 1 player and 7 AI players in the campaign, and a drop-in/out function, looks like crackdown graphics with red faction gameplay, u can even make a custom player for campaign and how u design it is based on how they move, for example u may make the player well armoured - he can take more damage but can't move fast, but a player without armour moves quicker but takes more damage.

looks interesting.

i'll buy forza 3, fifa 10 and mw2, i'll then spend 4 months playing nothing but mw2 and regret buying the others....

has happened the last 2 years with COD so no reason for it to change now..

COD MW:2
Fifa 10
Ghostbusters
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (can't remember if its released this year or not though)

even if there isnt a huge amount surely 3 or 4 of these would keep you going until the next batch of new releases next year?

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

not really interested in sports, driving or linear shoot emup types so normally there are very few games i actually want to play.

however there are a number of strategy and rpgs coming out this year that i am looking forward to

so i will definately be buying

borderlands
dragon age
alpha protocol
tropico 3

and then depending on positive or negative reviews will either rent or buy

divinity 2
magna carta 2
risen

next year looks good for me too if games like mass effect 2, rage, apb, brink, fallout new vegas, huxley, the secret world and possibly maybe heres hoping elder scrolls 5 and fallout 4 are released. if the majority of these games arent developed for the xbox and stay pc exclusives then i may just flog the 360 and invest in a better pc

Not only is it out this year, but it's out this month!

Play.com (UK) : Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 : Xbox 360 - Free Delivery

There's a downloadable, playable, free Juggernaut character that's become available on the Marketplace today (14/9/09).

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

ODST
MW2

Forza 3
Left 4 Dead 2
Assassins Creed II
Borderlands

And maybe a few others (Dragon Age, Brutal Legend) cheap depending on reviews.

Does the quantity of games really matter when you have the two in bold? Get them both and you'll be set for half a year. This Christmas is pretty poor if you don't like shooters though.

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

I bought 10 games just for my 360 between Oct to Dec last year, plus a couple for my Wii too!

This year I'm going to "try" to cut down.

So, my list looks like this:
MW2 PE (includes COD)
Stoked
Forza 3
PES 2010
L4D2

Maybe ACII will get added to that...

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

Its obvious why theres hardly any AAA titles this year compared to the last couple, Modern Warfare 2 has got titles scampering all the way to the other side of the calendar just to avoid it. Amazing how much power this one title has. First 3 months of next year is gona be like xmas

Re: Slim pickings for the rest of the year? Whats on your list?

On my buy list:
Left 4 Dead 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Brutal Legend
Halo 3: ODST
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Borderlands
FIFA 10
PES 2010
Forza 3
Tekken 6
Assassins Creed 2

On my wait for a price drop and see how the reviews and opinions are list:
Need For Speed: Shift
Blur
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

There's also some cool PS3 exclusives due this year too (like Uncharted 2 and Ratchet and Clank: A crack in time) so there is plenty to keep me busy for the rest of the year.
