MX Vs ATV: Reflex (UK Release: 5 Feb 2010)

MX Vs ATV Reflex Video Game, New Features Interview | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com

Can't see many people here looking forward to this one after the poor reception of Untamed(which is actually a fun game) but I think it's looking pretty good and has potential to be a sleeper hit.

The track deformation looks nice & effective, have missed that since Sega Rally. Also the new physics engine looks good, clear to see the improvements over Untamed, stunts sound more intuitive aswell.

Oh, and relieved to see they've stripped down the difficulty settings to just three options, why the hell there were ever so many diffifulty settings in Untamed I'll never know, takes me about 2 minutes to decide which one to choose

Due February next year.

Can see where you're coming from as Pure was hugely polished, but really a very different game to MX vs ATV(apart from the obvious quad bikes), Pure was like a cross between SSX and Burnout on ATVs. MX vs ATV was a much broader game with a wider range of vehicles from bikes and quads to buggys and trucks(not to mention my old favourites the UTVs), also a mix of tracks, point to points, stadiums and freesyle events, tricks were much more optional and didn't produce boost and weren't needed in order to win in the race events.

I really should pick up Pure though as I did like the demo, just the reliance on tricks that put me off.

Anyway, offcial site for MX vs ATV: Reflex here, some interesting info and videos on there.

Don't let the tricks put you off, it s part of the insanity, and we all need a bit if that.
I have played all 3, 3 you ask?
Yes another currently on last stages, FUEL..
Its in between ATV VS MX and PURE...
Many choices for all, like I said, I just hope ATV VS MX is of better quality this time round, IMO FUEL has failed, just, its very much boring unless you really know what is going on, once you are past that, it can be very fun, but monotonous..

All the best with gaming, currently playing Wolfenstien... Almost done.. LOL

Re: MX Vs ATV: Reflex (UK Release: TBA)

New developer walkthrough video just surfaced on teamxbox...

MX vs. ATV Reflex Developer Walkthrough - Xbox
Quote:
MX vs. ATV Reflex marks the highly anticipated return of the best-selling off-road racing franchise and features the all-new Rhythm Racing 2.0 physics engine, Rider Reflex control system and real-time terrain deformation. The Rider Reflex control system provides unparalleled precision and fluidity by separating machine steering from body positioning, which allows the independently controlled rider to shift his weight, perform death-defying stunts and avoid potentially devastating wrecks.

Unprecedented terrain deformation creates ever-changing courses as off-road vehicles carve lines and deep ruts that have a real-time impact on gameplay and remain persistent through the full length of each race. MX vs. ATV Reflex will offer players the chance to become the rider and leave their mark in Holiday 2009.
The reflex system looks really good, should really seperate this game from all the other racers out there in terms of gameplay control, also like the fact you have the chance of recovering bad landings(which is pretty unforgiving & at times frustrating in Untamed).

I'll still hate the freestyle stunt events with a passion but hopefully as with Untamed there'll be plenty of racing events to keep me satisfied, I think it's going to be great this.

Re: MX Vs ATV: Reflex (UK Release: TBA)

Looks like a winner if its done right..

I have yet to see any alterations on racing games, rut and all where the track does deform, Sega Rally did it in some fashion, but as an arcade racer, it really didn't make much of an impact, more eye candy, lets hope for something newer in this treat.
We need more in racing games now as apposed to rehashed formulaic old ideas..
Hopefully this will set a new style of game making..

Tetlee, Pure was £9.99 in Gamestation last week and it's fab! No idea how long the deal was for though.

It s indeed, and the way you actually use weight to control the quad is very intuitive..

Re: MX Vs ATV: Reflex (UK Release: TBA)

Just watched the new trailer, more babes than in-game footage(don't think the game looks good enough to distract me under those circumstances), Untamed used the same advertising method, I was interested to notice the "download the demo today" quote at the end. A demo must be imminent, maybe tomorrow

IGN Video: MX vs. ATV Reflex Xbox 360 Trailer - Download Daydream Trailer

Still unsure the release date, depending where you look it goes anything from this month to Feb 2010, just have to wait and see I suppose, have a feeling it might even release in the US before it hits these shores.

[EDIT]
Just checked my US account and sure enough the demo is on their marketplace, but of course is reserved for Gold members at the moment, will either have to wait a week or make another new account to get the 1 month gold trial(I do kind of want the demo now, now that I know it's there).

Oh, and according to IGN the release date(in the US at least) is December 1st.

Well, after being on the American marketplace for 1 week the demo was opened up to Silver members today so got it downloaded with my US profile.

My first impressions, brilliant, I'm one of the few that really enjoyed Untamed but this is a huge step up in terms of gameplay, physics, graphics, pretty much everything.

If you're like me and can't stand those racing games where you struggle to get your vehicle around corners then you should love the controls in Reflex, using your body weight independantly(using the right stick) from steering you can really chuck your vehicle into the corners, very fast and responsive steering and although not easy to get the hang of, I think it's just superb!

AI is definately improved, in Untamed you always seemed to come off worst from the slightest collision with the AI(and with 12 riders on the track there are plenty of them at times) but this time around it seems much fairer, with them taking the brunt as often as you, also the fact you get the chance to recover bad landings takes away alot of frustration and is pretty rewarding when successful

Track deformation, I loved it in Sega Rally and I love it here too, should make for some really fun online games, especially over several laps.

As for graphics, more gritty and realistic looking than in Untamed, much more of an improvement than I was expecting to be honest.

Definate release day purchase for me, sadly while it gets released next week in the US, it has already been confirmed by THQ that this release will be region-locked so February 2010 it will be(the official UK release date).

The first review is in and it's a nice positive one, awarding the game 91%.

XboxAddict.com - XboxAddict MX vs. ATV: Reflex Staff Review

In conclusion, MX vs. ATV Reflex has been turned on its head; it’s a completely new animal from all past motocross titles from THQ and Rainbow Studios. The game looks incredible, but that perfect combination of terrain deformation and reflex controls, make a great combo. I’m really anxious to see what they have in store for us as far as downloadable content. Maybe some old favorite tracks from games past. Call of Duty does it, why not tracks! Personally I’m not interested in paying for gear, just another track to ride on. MX vs. ATV Reflex is now the new standard on what motocross gaming should be!

A couple more reviews in and again both are glowing

Review : MX vs. ATV Reflex on Xbox 360 9.2/10
Quote:
For the price of admission, the game does offer plenty of replay value; whether its the online choices or the offline career mode. The presence of more vehicles than just bikes and quads might take you away from the "reflexive" controls addition but, with the exception of the Omnicross event, you can totally play the game without even looking at them. You could even look at it as a free expansion pack if you’d like. The game has been built to please both the newcomers and the hardcore MX vs ATV crowd and that’s a very tough balance to strike. Rainbow and THQ can be proud of their most recent offering and there’s no way anyone could complain.

Conclusion

Releasing the game this late in the year is a double edged blade: either you take the chance to release it during the busy time of the year and go completely unnoticed or release it later and face the fact that people might skip it. Still, hardcore riders won’t want to miss the rendez-vous but newcomers (and those who have heard of the game but are still unsure if its worth it) should definitely keep a few extra dollars aside. The game is worth every one.

When great physics meet great design, magic happens. But now that we’ve had our pristine physics, bigger than life graphics and digital sound for a while, where do we go from here? Games with hooks like Burnout, or Midnight Club? Deep simulations like Forza and Gran Turismo? Sure, why not? But what about the good old fashioned 3 to 5 lap adrenaline rush? And haven’t those games pretty much run their course? After Forza 3, I can’t imagine needing another car racing game until the Microsoft pulls off a 720.

What we really need is innovation, but where will it come from? What more can modern consoles do? The answer is Reflex. The only the catch is that you’re gonna have to get dirty.
Quote:
Chances are you’ve heard about terrain deformation or perhaps even experienced it…or at least thought you had. I know I did, until I played Reflex. Leaving real-time embedded tread marks behind is one thing, but actually altering the terrain is another. And there’s nothing subtle about it. In Freeride you can dig a hole deep enough to ride into; ride a few miles and come back—it’ll still be there. It’s as if they backed up a truck and poured a thick layer of topsoil into the screen. It’s truly remarkable, and not just as a conversation piece. Depending on the specific terrain, there’s an equivalent density, so your bike handles differently going from grass, to soil, sand, snow, mud, etc. On the track conditions change as a given race or moto wears on. A smooth turn on lap one might be a craggy mess by race’s end, and thick sand or mud gets all the more treacherous as it’s plowed through. But the innovation doesn’t end there. Rainbow didn’t just change the way racing games look and feel, they’ve changed the way they play!

Quote:
In the past even the best motocross games suffered from limited rider animation and conventional racing control, but in Reflex the bike and rider control independently with the left analog controlling the bike and the right the rider, putting the player in complete control of every aspect of the race. It also eliminates preloading—the charge and release method commonly used to propel your bike over a series of jumps in lieu of proper rider mechanics. Now that you can shift the rider’s weight forward and back, it’s a simple a matter of pulling back on the bars. You can say goodbye to incidental crashes too; as long as your reflexes are up to it. Just before you’re about to eat dirt after a rough landing, minor collision or what have you, a green arrow flashes indicating the direction your body needs to shift to recover, a simple flick and you’re back in business. The AI gets you back on the track quickly in the event you do get hammered—and you will, I don’t care what they say some of these AI riders are nuts—but saving a wreck can still be the difference between ogling the sexy trophy girls and a do over.

By themselves the terrain deformation and separate rider control are significant milestones in offroad racing, but combined they’re nothing short of genre redefining. They don’t have as significant an effect behind the wheel as they do on Quads and MX Bikes, but Reflex is predominantly a motocross game, with National, Freestyle, and Supercross Series. Not to take anything away from the games 4-wheeled thunder. UTV, Sport Truck, and Sport Buggy all benefit from the amazing terrain effects and dual analog control, and your budding Motocareer takes you through Waypoint, Omnicross, an all new challenge-filled Freeride, and Champion Sport Track, in addition to the MX/ Quad venues.

verdict
It’s finally here. Big-time motocross and off-road racing with REAL dirt and separate bike and rider control... Rainbow Studios deliver a pot of pure gold.
Hopefully by the time this game is released over hear next Feb it'll get the attention it deserves(clearly not much interest to far), this is going to be something pretty special I think a real change from the other racers that have flooded the market recently.

I can't wait myself.

I liked the first one a lot (and still play it regularly) as well as MX Unleashed before that on the original XBOX.

Played this Sunday, Pure seems to handle better, even though its unrealistic with tricks and all, seems to have a more refined handling engine IMO.
Still good fun for what the demo showed..
