MechWarrior

I don't know what this game is but it looks interesting and it's another PC XBox exclusive.

Re: MechWarrior

Awesome! (See what I did there? )

I loved the MechWarrior series. I slipped and slid all the way to Cardiff over 2" of solid ice (freezing rain overnight) to get MechWarrior2 and I had quite a few contacts in the MW4 modding community when I was working on my own Battletech game (AMBER Screenshots)

Hope they pull this off. There aren't enough big robot games on the 360. (Don't talk to me about Armoured Core or Chromehounds .) It'd be nice to see an update to the MechCommander series too.

Re: MechWarrior

I quite enjoyed Chromehounds Still one can't accommodate for other people's mental issues Armored Core was only good up till Silent Line IMO (maybe Nexus) and the "next gen" ones have been dire.

My big hope is they support the Tekki/Steel Battalion controller! Please?

Re: MechWarrior

I may have 'the stupid', but I couldn't make any sense of Chromehounds.

I got a couple of missions in and was told to go somewhere and ambush a convoy. I duly went to the waypoint, waited, took a pot shot at the first vehicle I saw and got told off for friendly fire.

Next time around, I waited, and zoomed in for a look at the vehicles, then failed the mission for taking too long.

Didn't get any G's and binned it from my card as soon as NXE came along.

Wow i never knew you were an American!

Chromehounds was excellent IMO, but it was hard to get your head around. I had great times with 5 mates running the missions, and the best early 360 game it had (IMO obviously).

Re: MechWarrior

The PS2 game? I remember that, it was ok. I like a good mecha, but i've never quite worked out what makes one good or not. For example i never liked the Xbox1 MechAssault games (too slow, little upgrading/customisation), Zone of the Enders (basically 3d fighting game) or WarTech: SenkoNoRonde (2D fighting game), but compare them to ones i like which are very similar: ChromeHounds and Steel Battalion, (early) Armored Core, Virtual On.

But yeah i'll try anything, it's just a pity Japan gets so much more, forcing you to importing stuff like Tetsujin 28-GO, Gigantic Drive or ones i cant even pronounce. Still it's a dying genre...

Not sure about MechWarrior (5), is it FPS only? Will it be a proper FASA game, or just the name and the licence raped like Shadowrun and what about this quote: "Weisman and Bullock both explained how they want every class of mech to really matter in this game; it's not just a race to the heaviest, most powerful mechs." yeah that'll be hard if it's online at all. Everyone always runs for the biggest armour and biggest guns always. Well except for a few masochists

MW4 wasn't too bad, if they can keep the crazy ideas in check, it should be good. AFAIK, FASA doesn't exist anymore. The IP is owned by two companies now. A German company owns 'Classic Battletech' and Wizards of the Coast own the modern IP that got mangled in to the minifigs game.
MW1-4 were FPS, but 3rd person seems to be what all the cool kids are doing these days.

Indefinite hold, like Duke Nukem Forever. Too much other stuff going on. (Getting a 360 was the biggest showstopper )

The screen shots on the site were done on an old GF4 card. There's so much new stuff in OpenGL now that I can make it look a lot better, but the coding techniques have changed too. So I'll probably have to rewrite the GFX engine.
One day it'll get done. It's early days, I've only been doing it for 10 years.

More info here:
New Mechwarrior Game Confirmed, Will Reboot Series - Piranha Games - Kotaku

I see an Atlas and a Warhammer in that pic. They're fairly accurate models.

Can't see the vid at work though.

Re: MechWarrior

It's OK, I went home for lunch and humped my own screen.

Pretty good trailer. I saw a Jenner in there (still got those stupid back to front legs) and they were using the planet names, factions and other stuff from the BT universe. Looks like a they're going to stay faithful to the licence.

Re: MechWarrior

Free to the PC? I have huge doubts it'll be free on a console...

Good idea though, i bought Diablo 2 recently as i'm keen to relive a little before Diablo 3 comes out, so a way of drumming up interest for an old product about to get made-over.

Re: MechWarrior

MekTek was the modding community I used to hang around in. They had the beginnings of an official thing going back then (they wouldn't let me use their models ).
MW4 was good, but getting online through my router was impossible. The game itself is a bit keyboard happy (lots of controls, like a flight sim), but you get used to it fairly quickly.
