This is down for release on 8th Jan but don't seem to be heard much about it lately. Anyone know if there's a demo of this out soon? Be good to compare it with the Bayonetta and Dante Inferno demo's

No idea about a demo, but it seems to be a lesson in how not to release a videogame:

Step 1) Avoid hype

Step 2) Delay your game to avoid the autumn AAA titles

Step 3) Reschedule your game to the first week of the New Year on the same day as Bayonetta which is getting 40/40 and 10/10 all over the shop

To be honest, I've been following it for a while and it looks like it could be good fun. The devs have been talking about Metroid/Zelda as their inspiration which is aiming high alright...I think they mean its a similar type game, you start off all-powerful, then are stripped of your powers and have to go round different levels of a hub world to reclaim them. Different powers/weapons allow access to previously unavailable parts etc etc.

Having said that, I'll be waiting for reviews before I go anywhere near it and might wait a few weeks for the inevitable price drop anyways.

There was a big review on this in 360 Gamer magazine, which gave it 9/10.

They said it's the 360's answer to Zelda and they're pinning it as a top title for 2010, although it does seem to have gone under the radar a little. I think i'll be getting it based on their review which did seem to rave about it.

Will check out the trailer in a minute when I can at work

I read a 10/10 review for it in another respected publication, but I can't remember where now

Hoping to have a review copy of this by Christmas, but not sure. Have spoken to PR at THQ, and it should be with me by release date, anyway, thieving posties notwithstanding

I love the idea/concept of it, I have to say.

I ended up deleting my posts about it this morning, as I worded them rather carelessly. However... there is a general review embargo until 8th January. Expect a more well-rounded view of the game to emerge after that.

After reading a little more about it, this game does sound really promising.. Just seems a little strange it's kept under the radar in the production of it. I'm excited to get my hands on it!

Here you go... not really a "proper review" IMO.

Darksiders: Wrath of War

Become one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Now there’s an offer you won’t get every day of the week. Not until January anyway.

How do you fancy a bit of Devil May Cry meets God of War turned up to 11… actually more like 13? This is pretty much what’s arriving on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in early 2010 with Darksiders: Wrath of War. You know, you can probably forget about Kratos, Sony’s infamous God of War from the PS2 game of the same name. This latest game from THQ lets you play as WAR… actual WAR, the guy himself. You might like to imagine how this could pan out. You won’t even come close.

Okay there is a twist to the tale, because if WAR was really cooking your console probably wouldn’t survive the onslaught. Similar to Kratos in God of War, WAR himself has been stripped of his bad-ass ‘…of the Apocalypse’ powers, and must now seek revenge together with his phantom steed RUIN. Thankfully this also means that the destruction of the Earth has been put on hold for a while.

This whole brilliant nonsense has been invented by comic book artist Joe Madureira (Uncanny X-Men, Battle Chasers), and brought to life by Madureira’s own studio Vigil Games. Perhaps the easiest way for gamers to get a handle on it is to imagine if development of Batman Arkham Asylum had been handed over to Marilyn Manson. Twistedness aside you get a huge open world to explore, a decent combat system and a wide range of weapons and tools to use in pursuit of twisted justice. Among these tools happens to be something similar to the Portal Gun from Half-Life Orange Box, bending time and space to overcome obstacles. Hey, why not?

First of all, as you may have noticed for yourself, Darksiders looks incredible. We guess this is one of the benefits of having your main concept artist being one of the studio chiefs. Look good or nothing. As WAR sets about destroying his demonic foes his ‘Chaoseater’ sword animates beautifully, and the beasts on the receiving end crumble most satisfactorily. WAR’s exploits take place against the backdrop of the physical world as well as a Shadow Realm, and this again gives the art team an excuse to push the imagination and technical limits of today’s super consoles.

In terms of gameplay rewards, all your hacking and slashing results in power orbs emitted from the defeated hordes – in this case they’re souls that, similar to Devil May Cry, serve different purposes depending on the colour. Greens grant more health, Yellows boost magic, and Blues amass as currency to purchase cool gear and upgrades from Vulgrim the Merchant (devourer of souls). There are more Devil May Cry tributes later on, as WAR combines sword juggles with pistol practice. It’s handled so well in the context of the game that you can just think of this as flattery.

The God of War influence cannot really be denied either, and WAR has opportunity to mangle his prey without mercy at the press of a context-sensitive button. There are Legend of Zelda touches in here too, all good stuff, such as finding many uses for a grappling hook that include yanking off the armour of one particularly ugly and unnecessarily huge critter that we’ll leave as a surprise...

Are we looking forward to hanging with WAR come the New Year? Yes.

Darksiders is released Friday 8 January for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

I haven't seen much buzz on this game on this site. It's been getting great reviews.

(note to multiplatform owners. Reviewers and gamers that already have the game have stated that the PS3 is the superior version so you may want to take that in mind when deciding which version to buy)

Plyr gave it 9.5/10

You can watch the show online nowadays, which looks better than the SD version on a huge TV I have to say

Part one here -

YouTube - Playr, Episode 88 Part 1 (Darksiders, Army of Two, Dark Void, CrimeCraft)

Part 2 here -

YouTube - Playr, Episode 88 Part 2 (Darksiders, Army of Two, Dark Void, CrimeCraft)

Just incase you miss it on Sky

As a multiplatform owner, do you have any linkies to (unbiased) reviews that put the PS3 version on top and why? Tempted to get this but want a compelling reason to dust out the ole George Foreman before I part with my hard earned

** EDIT **
Ok, so read up a bit more and the screen tearing seems to be the major con, for the 360 version... is this enough of a deal breaker for me? Gawd knows... the convenience of playing it whilst still being conencted to XBL to chat with mates etc. is the main draw but....

There are some posts on the dev's forums about the graphics. The PS3 version has no anti-aliasing and while there is some screen tearing, it's not as bad as on the 360 version (which does have AA). They're working on a patch to fix the tearing though, according to a post from David Adams who is one of the co-founders of Vigil Games.

My pre-order arrived today. It's a really good game IMO, kind of a cross between a Zelda game and God of War. The first section of the game isn't that great, but once you reach the first major area it gets really good.

As for performance, there is some screen tearing, but it's not that bad. Had I seen the tearing in advance, I'd have still bought the 360 version because I prefer the controller, but if you have both consoles and have no controller preference, I'd go for the PS3 version assuming it looks the same bar the tearing. Hopefully the patch I mentioned above will materialise and sort the tearing out anyway.
