Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

I know some people will cringe at the sight of this game but I'm liking the idea of a MarioKart clone in HD on the 360, looks quite promising, if a little slow, hoping this is one of the early levels and maybe different engine size cups meaning faster races ala MarioKart.

Defiantely one to watch for me as I do like my fun racers

YouTube - Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing E3 2009

some more gameplay footage there, i have a very open mind about this game, i have also longed for a kart racing game similiar in style to mario kart for the 360. Plus i'm a super sonic fanboy so this appeals to me quite alot

1:42, is that sonic flipping us the bird? what a cheeky bugger

Re: Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

Prior to owning an XBox I owned a Wii for a year (which I traded in for the XBox). Mario Kart Wii is possibly one of the most fun games I've ever played (sadly, it was the only fun game I ever found on the Wii) and I've been longing for some sort of X360 version. I think this Sega game is going to be the closest we'll ever get. I do hope they manage to make it as involving and enjoyable as Mario Kart. Having played Sega Superstar Tennis, I'm worried that it's going to be quite one dimensional.

The speed did look a bit a slow on the first video posted but perhaps it's the video quality of the clip. It's still early days I suppose. Play.com has a release date of 26th March 2010 at the moment...

YouTube - Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing (Comic Con 2009 preview)

Could go either way, either decent or bland, hopefully decent as could bring some nice variety to the 360 racers.

bumping this too Looked good on playr last week and could be a fun party game and mp. Will likely wait for it to hit sub £20 or rent initially.

I have to say mod nation or whatever its called on PS3 looks really good what with the track creator etc.

Crash Team racing was huge fun (especially multiplayer) on the Playstation despite being an inferior version of MK. So this should be good fun as long as the online works properly

Yeah, the original Crash Team Racing on the PSone was great, they've all been pretty lousy since then though IMO.

Thehut would probably be as good a place as any, £29.97 there from memory and they've always been good for me with pre-orders.

As for the demo, I thought it was very good, no mariokart(if only I could play that on the 360 instead of the Wii which I rarely switch on) but was tougher than I expected which was a bonus as I had a suspition it might have been squarely aimed at kids and too easy.

The 30FPS frame rate is a bit hard on the eyes though, MarioKart Wii looks so smooth when compared with this, even if there's less going on in the background in MK.

For anyone that finds you're being left behind, be sure to use the poweslides(LT) at every opportunity, it helps your speed no end and makes the game way more fun.

Sadly my missus lost her job recently so won't be a day one purchase for me, will almost certainly be picking it up at some point though.

Also enjoyed the demo, good sense of speed, some decent power-ups, nice visuals and track design. All a bit lightweight but enjoyable and pick up and play. I also found it solid and 5th was my best out of 3 races. I got into first position a few times but a weapon would take me out and i'd end up at the back of the pack!

I noticed in options, however that it was on advanced so put it on beginner and came in first on my next go. Lots of fun and something I'll likely pick up when sub £20.

Thats the only thing stopping me pre-ordering. Sega produced 360 games usually go very cheap very quickly, so I may hold off myself.

I wasn't that impressed with it. The main thing that put me off was the low framerate. It reminded me of playing the Mod Nation Racers beta on the PS3, only not quite as bad. If it's not fixed in the final version of the game then I'll pass and wait for Joy Ride!

I'm not one to usually moan about framerates and such but it's pretty bad on this game.

Yeah, if only it had the smooth 60fps frame rate of Mario Kart Wii, it would have been far better.

As for Joy Ride, I'm sure I read somewhere that game had been dropped since Microsoft agreed to allow the use of avatars in Sonic Racing.

One of the devs said on NeoGAF that this isn't final code and the framerate will be improved. I hope that's the case. I didn't realise that there was a PC version, so I might just get it on that (assuming it's any better), because I doubt any of my friends will buy this for the 360 anyway.

It's weird how some people are more sensitive to low framerates than others. Reading some of the comments elsewhere, there are people who just don't seem to notice it at all. The same with the beta of Mod Nation Racers, which I thought was even worse than this in that respect.

Have you got a source for Joy Ride being cancelled, Tetlee? I can't find any info and the game's page is still up at Xbox.com.

I had a go of this earlier and although it is ok, it's just not what I was expecting. I was hoping for something really quick but found it to be a little slow and the framerate drops considerably which really shouldn't be happening.

I like the power-ups and character roster/vehicles which reminds me of Looney Tunes Space Race on Dreamcast which I think is great kart style racer. I do like the unpredictability of it though, one minute you are near the back, the next you are leading and positions change all the time. It can be frustrating the other way around but very satisfying taking first place right at the end.

Although only one track is playable in the demo, I like the layout and there seems to be many more stylised tracks in the full game which should be great. I do think that Sonic should have not needed a vehicle because he is supposed to be fast. They could have let him run as he does in Sonic R for the Saturn.

What he said. The frame rate was noticeable right from the off and it was pretty slow in general. Poor effort and a wasted opportunity if they don't fix it.

So much for this idea. The PC version doesn't have any online play. I'll wait for reviews and user comments on the console versions to see how the framerate is in the retail build.
