Must haves & release calendar

It's getting towards that time of year again when all the "must have" games are going to start being trailored and demo'ed.

I haven't really been keeping up with the "scene" this year so the only 2 games on my wants list are:

Crackdown 2 - November/December?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - November
Bioshock 2 - October?

Are there any other absolutely "must have" games that are due for release later this year?

Re: Must haves & release calendar

Some more sequels, such as Assassins Creed 2, Bioshock 2, possibly Left 4 Dead 2?

All due in October - November time, if memory serves?

I forgot about Bioshock 2

As for L4D 2, it can sod off! The first game was so short and poor I'm not shelling out on the 2nd one....

Re: Must haves & release calendar

For me it's a case of:

- Alan Wake
- Modern Warfare 2
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Saboteur (shows potential)
- Army of Two: The 40th Day
- Halo 3: ODST
- Shadow Complex

Out of which the first three are definite first day purchases. Even so the rest of them I'll be picking up shortly after launch.

Re: Must haves & release calendar

Crackdown 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 are probably the main 3 on my radar, along with Arkham Asylum. Crackdown 2 and MW2 will likely be day one, I still need to complete Assassin's 1 so might wait for 2 and Arkham depends on reviews really though I'm hoping it will be good.

It's a new record! I don't think I've ever seen one man be so wrong.

Crackdown 2 won't be out this year, but that's a day one.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I'll do some reading up on those other titles to see if they appeal.

Re: Must haves & release calendar

My must-haves (not all for this year) are:

Mass Effect 2
Halo: ODST
Halo: Reach
Crackdown 2
Left 4 Dead 2

I am also very intrigued to find out more about Borderlands, Alan Wake, Bioshock 2 and Dragon Age: Origins (the latter being a new Bioware game ).

I'm sure there are other games I want, but I can't remember off the top of my head!

The two forthcoming Games Workshop titles, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Blood Bowl, have also piqued my interest.

Re: Must haves & release calendar

Is there enough sequels coming out this year? That's what I wonder.

Another L4D hater here. I thought it was a dreadful game, overrated pig-crap.

Basically, 22 September. Halo 3:ODST with Mythic maps. That's all you need in your life

Not tried L4D so can't hate it but it is presumably stopping Valve from getting on with HL2EP3? Really want this to come out!

Well, it's entirely idle speculation on my part, but it wouldn't come as a huge shock to me if Valve announced the Orange Box 2.

Containing Portal 2, L4D2, and HL2E3, it would certainly be worth full price! It kinda makes sense to me, although Valve might also want to make more money by releasing L4D2 as a stand-alone.

Time will tell, I guess.

Each to their own I suppose. Although I do think its very easy 'not to get' Left 4 Dead. I took it round a mates house after harping on about how good it was, really simple and original concept, loads of fun, zombies etc....

Dont think he really got it. He's not an fps nut so was struggling with the controls for a start and when I kept saying things to him like 'dont shoot the witch' he would say what witch? and 'why not?' To be fair it is easy to get overwhelmed on your first couple of playthroughs and its not until you know the game rules e.g. steer clear of witches, get to the safe house asap, shout TANNNKKK!!! whenever you here the music etc that you begin to appreciate what a masterpiece L4D is.

Are you talking to me?!

I actually enjoyed it but don't think I'd play it solo and I do a fair bit of solo gaming or like to play coop games with people I know and a lot of my mates are even more casual gamers than me and not into FPS that much.

I can imagine in 4 player coop with some buddies, it would be amazing fun.

It does sometimes take me a little while to get up on the controls for shooters and it to "click".

Obsessed is too strong a word but you really get into your titles so I was probably a bit overwhelmed at all the information you were spouting when it was my first time playing it and you'd lived and breathed it for weeks.

I find those games a bit spooky too, so definitely a MP game for me.

I just wanted to quote Charlie the Unicorn, that's all! (if you've never heard of Charlie the Unicorn, head to youtube and check it out. There are three episodes - the first two are best IMO).

I also didn't like the demo of L4D, so I agree with you. But I loved the full game once I gave it a chance.

Oh, and another game I'm looking forward to:
Darksiders

Also, the Last Guardian on PS3.
