My copy arrived yesterday and first impressions are really really good.

Seems like a very polished game, visuals, combat, voice acting are all fantastic.

Very very impressed !!

Dont know why you would only want to rent the game is really good.

Its free roaming game but you are an under cover cop and always have at least 2 missions to do all the time

But its the atmosphere of the game that is key, based in hong kong, and its so different to any other city

The people look like real people and you can go anywhere and do anything, but there is a tight story for you to follow, been the under cover policeman, so your pulled into the world

Really is a good game could become a classic in my view

because i have a 4 disc unlimited package with lovefilm, not much point renting games if im buying them, plus the reason for renting is i will play the rented games more, if i buy one then i will play it on odd occasions, the good thing about renting is that i can play a game and send it back and get it again when others are playing it, like a game with co-op for example, sometimes not everyone will be playing the game u are playing and to trade a game in, buy again, trade in loses too much value, i love renting as i can send them back and forth as i please as there is no time limit as to how long i can keep a disc.

i normally have 2 games and 2 films, i don't really like playing more than 2 games at a time as i like to get into a game and i cannot do that if im then playing a different game.

renting games just suits me.

Since most games can be completed in 10 hours it also makes financial sense to rent

exactly, why pay £35 for example lego batman 2 when it can be done in about 3 days.

i do still buy the odd game but only when the price gets lower, i wouldn't rent something that takes ages like gow3 or skyrim as examples.

Yep exactly I only purchase multiplayer games that I know will take a while to complete.

The only games I'll be purchasing this year is forza and halo everything else will be via lovefilm (speaking of which they're still picking a disc to send )

That renting seems a good idea

I will look into it myself to see how much it costs

Got this on a 7 night rent from Blockbuster.
And wow, it's awful.

The driving is clunky and slow to respond.
Feels like trying to steer a dead elephant.
It actually makes the driving in Saints Row look good.
The bike was even worse to handle.

And as for the combat...
Well, it seems like they've tried to copy Assassin's Creed here.
Only they've failed.
The lock-on option is useless for a start as it leaves you open to attacks from closer enemies while your selected attacker gets farther away and it doesn't seem to switch to the closer one.
Without the lock-on it's only slightly better, but with multiple enemies able to land attacks at once, and you're only able to defend/counter against a single attack, it just seems badly designed.
And considering melee combat seems to be the main focus, it looks like a major fail.
Picking up weapons during fights feels like a chore and so far there doesn't seem to be a way of disarming an enemy and using his weapon against him.
I'm actually dreading getting my hands on a gun of any kind as I'm fearful that it will only lead to more disappointment.

General game play seems pretty slow, and getting around the map feels like a chore.
From what I've seen of it so far, the map itself feels very dull and samey.

I'm not in any way comparing this to GTA, and I'm trying my hardest to give this game a chance, but with these faults I'm finding it very hard to see what all the fuss is about and cannot understand how one friend described this as a "pretty good substitute" for the lack of a new GTA game.

I'll give anything a chance, especially when I'm renting.
Hell, I even tried the appalling Goldeneye Reloaded and Duke Nukem Forever.
However, I think this is a good contender for the worst game I've rented or even played so far.

Really??? I agree its no GTA but I'm loving it, put about 15 hours in so far. You get the disarm perk a but later on as you rank up. Each to there own but I can see me putting another 15 hours in to it easy as well as getting any dlc.....

You'll find quite a few like that, most of the tuner looking race cars are the same.

Its like GTA though, certain areas will have different cars, I think Central has more of the high end stuff.

IIRC, you do get to drive one on a mission later in the game which is the only other time I've found one of those.

Funny how I had barely heard of the game until it sky rocketed to the top of UK charts.

A must check out by the looks of it.

A fine example of why I take very little notice of other peoples opinions or reviews. A totally contrasting view to mine ???

I played this for another few hours last night and think it is superb.

Yes, the driving is not great, but the combat, voice acting, graphics, atmosphere more than make up for it.

Great great game for me.

Cheers , like I say I have found one parked in a carpark where the viewing platform is (mountain area) , but I cant nick it for some reason?

I went back and it wasn't there so I'm guessing it only spawns there at certain times.

Brilliant game. Loving this totally.

It does take some getting used to, driving & fighting both.

Played 8 hrs so far, 45% story done, just had a real jaw dropping moment in the story, on iPad so can't spoiler it, but I was like :0

Loving all of it, never bored.

In a nutshell its great , hand to hand combat is great if a little hard at times but the unlocks even it out nothing more fun than breaking a thugs leg then killing him ninja style.

I'm glad weapons are not the be all and end all of this game... nothing will beat taking an enemy's scalp off with an extractor fan

I take back everything i said in the preview thread its great and well worthy of a few hours play.

I like how when you check the surveillance camera you can target anyone to be arrested.

Right, I didn't like the look of this. A few videos I saw, I didn't take to it. Well they must have been the worst videos ever

Downloaded the demo last night. Loved it. It is a cross between Mafia 2, Max Payne 3 and Arkham City for me! 3 of my favourite games!

Defo gonna pick this up. Just a quick question, does it have an MP element?

Nope SP all the way, the only MP "element" is score challenges for friends on your list who have the game

Then I am finally sold. Straight SP games are nearly always far better than their counterparts with MP elements. The devs actually put some effort in!!

Buy it its a quality game. There are not many single player games i play, normally prefer multiplayer, but this game is just quality. It sucks you into the hong kong world

Some of the missions where you have to kung fu loads of baddies, really feels like you have been through it and i go back to my apartment just to wash and sleep to recover from them

The next day i will go cruising in my new yellow sports car which has an unbelievable acceleration, riding around hong kong in the rain with a radio channel of your choice on

I met my police contact who was asking if i was still mentally in tact and im not sure with all the kung fu action, expensive apartments and cars and dealing with the triads

I can't see how anyone can defend this game.
The combat is appalling!
I'm going up against a group of thugs, and while countering/attacking one, another attacks me and breaks my attack against the other and takes about half my health.
Then there's instances I've had where I'm clearing attacking one guy, he turns red and somehow gets through my attack against him to land punches/kicks/blade attacks on me.

As I said in my previous post, this is absolutely shocking considering melee combat is the main focus of this game.
Utterly appalling.
Glad I've only got this until tomorrow.
I'm forcing myself to get my £7 worth out of it, but honestly, I can't see that it's been worth that much.

If you went into a gang and simply pressed x to defeat them all, where is the challenge or fun in that

You have to be on your toes to defeat gangs and also need to learn extra kung fu combinations

Seems like your trying to rush it too much

Follow some story missions, try and buy a nice car and level your character up to make him better at fighting. Work out other ways to defeat the gangs
