Pricing

What do you guys class as an acceptable price for an arcade game?

I feel that rarely there is a game which is worth 1200 points and wouldn't consider putting £10 into an arcade game when I can buy full budget full releases for £5 (admittedly not at time of release but I can be happy to wait!)

If the game is a brand new game, brand new idea I'd be more likely to be interested but as soon as that 1k is breached it's a no-go area for me. A lot of these games are remakes of old games and the value just isn't there anymore for me, even games sitting at 800 points is pushing it.

I would also like for DLC to come down in price after the content has been on xbox live for a while, why should games which were released at the time of launch still be sitting with the same price point? Everywhere's going into recession yet MS are wanting to charge more, whilst giving a poorer service, and I for one am not happy to support their ways.

Re: Pricing

Got to agree with some of your sentiment here...

Quite a few of the arcade games seem expensive for what you get, especially stuff like zuma, bejeweled etc whcih you can play for free online, admittedly in some cases they are cut down versions but they are very similar to the full game. A lot of these I would not pay more than a couple of pound for.

Some of the old xbox games seem only a little expensive as you get a full game for around £10 where you could buy it second hand for £5-10.

For some of the newer ones coming out that are reworks of other games it depend to me on how much work has gone in to update it to HD etc. Battlefield 1943 is one I am looking at which looks to have been updated nicely but they have cut it down to 3 maps.... £10 is about the max I would pay for it.

I definitely agree that games, content etc should come down in price the longer it has been available. Especially game add ons when the game starts to become older.

Saying all that, while people are prepared to pay the £5-10 price tag they are unlikely to want to cut profit margins and I can only see prices increase in the future as they make more full games available for download.

With you all the way, think I always used to be one of the biggest buyers of XBLA titles here on the forums but rarely bother even downloading the demos these days as not willing to spend more than 800 points on DLC when I can pick up retail games for the same money(and have resale value).

I guess we'll get the odd 800 pointer now and then worth considering, but it does seem like 1200 points is the new price for the half decent games so thanks but no thanks is what I seem to cosntantly say to my screen when I see the pricing info these days.

Re: Pricing

Absolutely!! A tenner for an arcade release is crazy No replay value, no resale option..way to much. If i had a spare tenner to blow, i could go into any game retailer and get more for my money

BTW...Welcome back Lee, nice to see you back in Blighty, hope you and yours are all settling back in.....Devon though Watch your toes dont start growing more hairs

Re: Pricing

For me it really depends on the game.

1200 points is OK to me as I easliy can pay £10 for an iPhone game so £10 for an XBLA title is somewhat comparable.

1200 points does seem like a lot when the first batch of XBLA titles were 400-800 points but as long as I feel the game offers £10 of value to me I am OK to pay it. Although there are a lot of crud titles and some that don't interest me for 1200 point which does make me wonder why some of those titles are so high.

For 800 or lower if I have a passing interest in a game and I have the points to spare it turns into a buy, but at 1200 points I kind of have to think a bit more to see if I want it or not.

I also don't trade in my games so that never's been a factor when comparing XBLA titles to retail copies and sometimes I feel £10 is a decent amount for a game when you consider that developers need to get paid for the time and effort put in (and they don't feel they can make a decent profit by lowering the price and making it up in volume).

Although in the past I use to get full retails games I had somewhat of an interest in on release day and always went for the "Special Edition" copies where as now I tend to wait till the price has dropped on retail games before I buy them (unless I really want the game), so my opinion on XBLA prives may change soon too
