Hasbro Family Game Night

It turns out this is probably the most expensive arcade title to date, each indivdual game seems to be 800 points. At the moment they have released

Battleship
Connect 4
Scrabble (only in US and Canada)
Yahtzee

So as the titles are coming out individually I guess they are planning on releasing more, but why would anyone want to pay 800 points for Connect 4, when they can pick up a real copy for less than £5 is beyond me.

So what I thought was going to be a nice 800 point title with a whole selection of games actually turns out to be 2400 points and I can't purchase the only title I would have possible been interested in as it isn't available in the UK!

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

That is madness. Someone should knock up rip off versions for the community games section and charge 200 points for each.

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

Just been reading the comments on Major Nelson's blog... not pretty I can tell ya!!

I can't believe that they can rip people off like this!! When I watched the trailer for it, I thought that it might be worth getting for a bit of fun but not at them prices... 800 points for the lot and then I'll consider!

I didn't realise that the download is just a pretty front-end to get you to buy the games. What a waste of bandwidth that was.... 250MB for nothing.

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

Yea, very poor indeed.

Like others, thought I was downloading the games (or at least a version of them and the 800pts version was a premium version).

250mb wasted... doesnt explain what is going on

Also, it's actually more than that!
800 points x 4 titles = 3200 points, not 2400!

What a con.

Sorry, ignore me: just saw that Scrabble was only available in US and Canada. Either way, it's still a con.

Perhaps the Scrabble release is to help raise the level of literacy in North America, and teach our Transatlantic cousins how to use English.

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

I just saw a video review of it over at xbox.joystiq.com and it seems like they could have done a lot more with it (you should be able to see your own Battleships and hide you letters from other users in Scrabble).

At 800 points per game it's a little too high for me to want to purchase as I doubt I would get 800 points worth of enjoyment out of each game.

It's actually even more than that, because the original press release said there were 7 games, three are out now, three more are coming soon and I guess once they sort out the legal issues for Scrabble that will also arrive, so at

800 points x 7 titles = 5600 points, not 3200!!!!

So for the same price you could also buy Braid, Geometry Wars 1 & 2, Castle Crashers, Portal and Uno. What would you rather have?

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

I heard the reason Scrabble wasn't released outside the US is that the devlopers used US spellings so it doesn't understand Aluminium and Colour it only does Aluminum and Color.

Although that could just be a joke, I wouldn't put it past the devs to not understand they spell things incorrectly over in the Nited Stayts of Ameerca

Downloaded then quickly realised that it was the most expensive game ever! Knew there would be some irate people on these and other forums

Shame. Yahtzee is my all time favourite board game but they even managed to that up!! I got 2 yahtzees in my first half game and that's before I noticed you could have jokers

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

Think the issue with Scrabble is that in the U.S it's made by Hasbro where as in Europe it's actually made by Matell.

So it looks like we'll never see that one

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

Echo the sentiments here, the "trial" of one of the games, where the Mrs and I spent all of 10 seconds trying Connect4 was possibly one of the funnily short trials I've ever seen!

Deleted from gamercard with immediate effect, really strange and ridiculous idea with similarly ridiculous pricing!

I was all set to play the trial games with my 5-year-old daughter tomorrow. I'm glad I tried it myself tonight first.

Saved myself a few tears there I think.

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

To be honest i don't see what everyone is whining about!!

Yes i agree them stating the game is free, and its not, is wrong and somewhere they are probably breaking trading standards rules..... but.....

Put this into perspective.........

If you were to go and buy these games individually from the store. Argos in the UK for example, you would be paying alot more. 1000ms points is £8.50, so that works out at around £7.50 per game, which isn' bad considering you dont just get the original versions, you also get 2 other revamped versions for each of the game, then there is the added party game mode, plus all the acheiments and the abilaty to play online agaisnt people all over the world!!

Its actually not bad at all. You have to look at it as 6 seperate games and not just 1 game!

Re: Hasbro Family Game Night

True, but are the individual games really worth 800 each? I bought yahtzee for my ipod and it only cost £3.50, and i prefer it to the xbla version. As the previous porter said, you can get it for the wii brand new in retail packaging for £15, and ok, the xbla version is a bit more upgradable, but come on, they're really taking the michael with this one.

I'm a big fan of boardgames, especially xbla versions, because i can't get anyone at home to play them with me, and I was really looking forward to this, but no. You have to draw the line somewhere. I simply can't justify the price.
