Perfect Dark XBLA

I know this is to be released this "winter" but "winter" is not good enough for me

Anyone got a more exact release date? Before the end of this year or the end of February 2010

Any info would be much appreciated

Apparently, Major Nelson has said this has been delayed by a few months, so expect to see it in the first half of 2010. In the meantime here are some comparison shots:

May be in the minority here but much as i hammered the original goldeneye, with and without friends, i found this to be the superior game, it also had the farsight .

The time limits to achieve cheat codes bordered on the ridiculous, needing some real thought on how to achieve them, sometimes needing you to be off on the run whilst a cut scene was still playing and added greatly to the single player experience imo.

The original game was superb and still will be if they don't mess around with it too much, (without looking at any news on it prior to posting this) a hd makeover and maybe the inclusion of online play will suffice at least for me, one thing for sure the N64 original was much superior to 360 zero, rare at their best let's hope they get back to it soon.

Film rights, presumably. GoldenEye was already done on a technical level, but hit some sort of legal hitch.

good point, didn't think of that.

This will still be a must-buy even though I don't get to be Bond again.

Preview here. It brings back all sorts of fond memories reading about this and the screenshots look nice. Release in March and 800 points.

Cant wait for this, it was certainly up there with Goldeneye in my opinion... Shame Perfect Dark Zero was such a massive disappointment on the Xbox360 ..

I'd love to see them do Jet Force Jemini next

Oh man, Facility with the Goldeneye weapon set? I'm sold.

As good a game as Perfect Dark is, it'll never get me excited like Goldeneye can. This is obviously the next best thing. It's also good to hear that they're fixing some of the more prominent framerate issues, as well as bolstering the pixel count. Overall it's looking pretty, pretty, pretty good.

...and the inclusion of Peter Molyneux means that I'll finally get to slap that smug git for over-hyping (and in the process near ruining) everything that he's ever been involved with.

I'm in too. Watching the vids, the PD stuff looks like re-skinned Goldeneye anyway. Actually throwing the maps and weapons in there tips the scales for me.

GoldenEye 64 multiplayer maps coming to Perfect Dark XBLA

Quote:
Okay, so GoldenEye 007 may never truly come to Xbox Live Arcade, but it seems that Rare has found a very nice workaround. Multiplayer maps and weapons from the classic Bond shooter will be coming to Perfect Dark XBLA, effectively emulating the GoldenEye experience without having to finagle a license from Nintendo's legal department. Clever girl.

The maps and weapons were actually part of the original Perfect Dark when it launched on the Nintendo 64. Microsoft's Ken Lobbs confirmed that these bonuses will be returning when Perfect Dark re-releases on Xbox Live, taking us as close to GoldenEye as we can get without a release of the real game.

Perfect Dark is released on March 17 and will cost a cool 800 Moon Dollars.

Cool!

Review in from Eurogamer - definite purchase for me at 800 points. 17 missions plus 2 player co-op plus all the multiplayer modes = WIN

Perfect Dark Review | Xbox 360 | Eurogamer

They gave it 8/10 score

I'm really excited at the prospect of some online Goldeneye... and slightly nervous. It's been a good five-six years since I've played Goldeneye and probably closer to a decade since I last touched Perfect Dark. As much fun as 4 player split-screen Goldeneye multiplayer was (and it probably is the best gaming memory that I have), I'm worried that because shooters have come so far since, and because I won't be in a room full of friends, it might not feel like the same experience - thus somewhat diluting the memories. Although, I guess it's a chance that most are going to have to take.

Still, I'm more excited than I am worried. I've been very critical of Rare since departing from Nintendo, but including the Goldeneye weapons/maps is quite possibily the best decision they've made since. Whether it works as an online shooter or not, the fact that they've finally managed to port Goldeneye [in some form] over to the next generation is a major achievement (considering all of the legal trouble).. because there'll always be 4 player split-screen to fall back on. That'll never fail.

I'm in a mixed mood about this.

I'm really looking forward to it, having put hours into Goldeneye when I was younger. Never played PD though had bought a PSone by then.

Thing is, fired up Timesplitters 2 with a mate last week (on the gamecube) and my that looked dated. And yet the team behind that (Free Radical Design) had worked on Goldeneye/PD, the auto centering camera was the same, and the same kind of physics. So not entirely sure how this is going to pan out. Also thought that TS2 was very quick moving in comparison with other, more modern, shooters.

Then again, having gone off all other shooters since COD got good with 4/5/6, I've been really enjoying ODST, and really got my teeth into UT3 a few years back.

Still going to buy it though!

I owned this game on the N64, I also loved Goldeneye epecially the multiplayer so the fact that they have included the GI maps makes it a must buy.

But, word of warning, dont buy this game if you grew up on the modern shooters. This is a different type of game, the controls have been superceded. Only buy this game if you appreciate where its comming from or you want a bit of nostalgia. At 800 points its an absolute bargain as the single player is medium length with a good plot and some brilliant level design. I'm sure the multiplayer will be fun online as well, not anything like BF or COD, more of a novelty.

What will annoy be is when a bunch of teens post on this thread who have only ever played COD and BF and moan about the controls sucking. Go play stunt car racer on the Atari ST and then say how great Gran Tourism is on the PS3!!

Yeah, I think there will be a lot of people that don't 'get' the game because they're either too accustomed to COD, or too young to have played the original.

My only concern is that the online mode won't feel 'right', because it's obviously not something that was in the original, and all of my memories are of 4-player.

I'm really excited to get some split-screen action on the go though. Can't wait for that.

Hmm, that's weird. The only way I could get the full game to work was to download the trial and unlock it from the in-game options. So, the trial link should be working - well it was at about 10.00am.
