Have you ever got a game you played back in the day then realised it's not as good?

Once you purchased it?

I downloaded Mortal Kombat from Xbox Arcade & then once I played it fully, it was ****, I hated it, I don't know why but it's just one of them that I really hate being there lol

Yet I'm sure it was great when I was younger, it's the same game & everything lol

I could delete it I know but thats stupid after I've purchased, shame theirs no exchange service ha ha

Still, all the other classics on Xbox Arcade that I've purchased have made up for that, Bomberman Live is the most rewarding & addictive .. followed by Out Run :D

Biggest disappointment for me, even though I never bought it, was Joust - I used to love plugging away at this for hours on end when I was a kid, couldn't stand the trial!

Probably least value game I've bought would have to be Turtles, one of my first purchases done on a whim, regretted it almost as soon as I'd loaded it lol

Er, yes.
Unfortunately, it's nearly all of them and I'm going back a very long time (I'm assuming you're quite young).

The games that still stick for me are Mariokart, Super Mario world and SF2.

These, to me are the games that summed up their own individual platform and anything that followed was only a shallow copy/upgrade, imo.

As for the modern games like COD etc, well they're all too fast for me

Oh, sorry, I didn't realise this was the Xbox forum.

I think my answer still applies though

Not all were like that, I thought Turtles was spot on & exactly the same & look at the Monkey Island game too

I know Rainbow Islands was a mess up, but people tend to remember the messed up ones more than the ones that are done well & true to the original.

Mortal Kombat is exactly the same, it's just crap now & I'm not sure what I saw in it originally, maybe I was easily pleased lol

when i think of old games I seem to update the gfx in my mind so that they look great!
i remember tomb raider 1 and driver looking awesome (which they did at the time) but now when you see them you realise just how far we have come in a decade.

Yeah, I think it was all about Street Fighter anyway back then, Mortal Kombat was like an extra to have (Their was another one too, I forget the name of it .. though I remember you got an audio CD with it of the soundtrack & it was aimed to be quite bloody .. I'd remember if I heard the title).

Street Fighter IV is good though I reckon & I'm absolutely addicted to Bomberman Live lol

I bought Duke Nukem 3D yesterday. Definately not as good as I remember it, I used to love that game, had all the add-on discs and everything, then last nioght I was left feeling rather dissapointed

I also got Doom a few days ago as the misses loved that, but I never got into that game when I was younger so I wasn't that dissapointed.

I played Sonic & Knuckles a few months ago, seemed like a different game to what I remember.

When I had a Megadrive I had Sonic 3 & Knuckles in most of the time, completed it with all the characters, each had 99 lives and had all the Super Emeralds - thought myself pretty good at it.

The special stages seem really hard now, it's so sensitive and I always end up running into one of those red ball things...! Maybe I'm getting old .

Yeah most of those golden memories tarnish in the cold light of modern gaming. The ones that have retained a good deal of playability for me are Metal Slug 3 and DOOM.

I really want to go through Duke Nukem again, but I don't think it is worth 800points. Waiting for some kind of special offer on that.

SWOS is still great; you just have to cope with the way the 360's default controller isn't. At least, when it comes to digital response. Arcade stick is the way to go.
