Ion Assault

Highly doubt anyone else here picked this one up last Wednesday but it's definately worth a trial for those with a taste for the weird.

Have to admit I didn't go much on the demo after playing the three demo levels the first time through but for some reason, despite thinking it was one very strange game, I was drawn to give it another go, and another, and another, then unlock

I actually think it's a really nice little game, despite looking similar to Geometry Wars it's really not very similar, a bit of a mix of that game crossed with Asteroids and E4.

Shame the co-op is local only(yet multiplayer for up to 4 players is Xbox Live), mind you might have had a job to find a co-op partner for this one anyway

Re: Ion Assault

Link to the teamxbox review for those interested Ion Assault Review (Xbox 360)

They also seem to like it, giving the game an 8/10, their biggest negative seemed to come from the lack of full 360 degree dual stick control(you rotate the right aiming by pushing the stick left and right rather than just spinning), although once I got used to it I actually like the control system in this game as it is.

Re: Ion Assault

I gave it a try after you recommended it, but couldn't really get on with it.

A million times better than Streets of Rage Double Dragon Final Fight The Warriors though.

Re: Ion Assault

DL'd this but not had a wee shot yet, will fire it up later and see if it's one for me

*EDIT*

Wasn't doing anything for me after a wee blast, I'll try it again a few times but my natural left/right turn of the ship using right thumbstick seemed to be the opposite of what the game had programmed lol I'll try when the beer has run out and see if it's any better but I don't think I'll be a co-oper on this one based on that quick play through I'm afraid Lee

Re: Ion Assault

Did nothing for me since it seemed to be an inferior attempt at the great Super Stardust that I've got on my PSP.

Re: Ion Assault

Probably the quickest time to start, stop and delete an Arcade game for me. Didn't get the play mechanic at all.

No problems Rory as bizzarly there isn't online co-op anyone, local only

Anyway, still really like this game but there seems to be a glitch with unlocking the last area, I've unlocked it three times now(no easy task as the later levels get hard as nails!) but despite it unlocking on that play, once powered down it locks itself again meaning you have to go through the previous 5 levels to unlock it again Doubt there was enough sales for the devs to bother patching it, shame as the last area is great fun and annoying having to play through the previous chapter each time you want to play it.
