This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

Thought I'd start another one of these rather than bump my old thread.

Use this thread to post up info on upcoming XBLA releases, confirmed if possible.

This Wednesday on XBLA...

Bubble Bobble 800 points

and

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Commander’s Challenge 800 points

I know there have been a few people patiently waiting for Bubble Bobble, didn't know there was a XBLA version of C&C being developed, guessing it's just a stripped down version(I guess we can expect more of this from EA after the success of BF1943), will certainly give it a look.

Re: This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

Just been finding out about the XBLA version of Red Alert....
Quote:
Comrades, the Red Alert 3 battle rages on! This entry in the Command & Conquer series challenges players to take on the world's toughest commanders and conquer the globe in 50 unique challenges. The Commander’s Challenge throws the player into intense battle challenges against a set of nine different commanders, including 16-time world champion "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Each challenge features its very own over-the-top and distinctive twist, confronting players with everything from giant Soviet war bears and an entire army of psionic Japanese school girls to massive satellite orbital bombardments. As players progress throughout the gauntlet, they gradually unlock more units, technology and new challenges. Additionally, each challenge is equipped with a par time set by the dev team that is up to the most competitive players to beat.
I guess the question is, will it be worth buying when you can get the retail release of Red Alert 3 for around a tenner, 800 points is my insta-buy price through so will have to see what happens on Wednesday

Re: This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

This weeks games:

Bust a Move
Football Genius
Military Madness

all at 800 points each. This week on Arcade: Bust a Move, Football Genius and Military Madness - Xbox Live's Major Nelson

Will give each a trial, espcially interested in Military Madness, assuming it's a remake of the old Turbogfx game that influenced Advance Wars.

[EDIT]Yep, it is, just found this video, difficult to tell if it'll be any good, will wait and see....

Military Madness Video Game, XBLA Zone Control Gameplay | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com

Oh, and seems like the Bust-a-Move might be a remake of the original game(rather than yet another sequel, all of which seemed to fail badly IMO) and the footy one is some sort of quiz game.

Y'know, I was just thinking the other day that it'd be cool to see a remake of North Vs South and that Military Madness looks to be in the same vein, look forward to checking it out

Re: This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

Will definitely be giving Bust a Move a go. As long as the gameplay is as it always was, this will be a definite purchase.

The other two? Well Military Madness is probably worth a trial, and the quiz games gets a miss from me.

Tough time of year to be bringing out less than stellar Arcade games.

Re: This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

Two new titles tomorrow it seems...

Quote:
Major Nelson has revealed the two new titles which will appear on Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow.

First up is South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play. Does what it says in the title.

The second game, Lucidity, comes courtesy of LucasArts and the team who developed The Secret of Monkey Island for XBLA. It's a pretty puzzle platformer - see for yourself by checking out the videos on the gamepage.

Each title will cost 800 Microsoft Points, which is £6.80 / €9.60 in the old money.

Re: This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

I am absolutely speechless. I feel violated. Taito have utterly destroyed and ruined a classic like Rainbow Islands. I understand this is a bastardisation of the Wii version and not the timeless classic that I plundered hundreds of hours into in my youth.

This is utter filth. Utter, utter filth. What were they thinking of?! Shoite.

Re: This week on XBLA.... (the confirmed weekly releases thread)

Rainbow Islands was my all time fave game until COD raised it's ugly head.

This is complete cack.

I hate it, the controls are awful, the graphics are garish, and to throw in another adjective that begins with g, the game is completely ghastly

And what's with that kiddy crap at the beginning within the speech bubbles. It's tripe.

From day 1 of the retro games being released on XBLA, I have posted on various forums asking for Rainbow Islands. Now I wish they hadn't written the most joyous of games all those years ago so my memories wouldn't be so tainted.

Well, as i mentioned in the Dizzy thread, I hope they bring the Dizzy collection to XBox Live Arcade.

As well as Trap Door, Broken Sword & The Curse Of Monkey Island !!!

I agree with the Rainbow Islands thing by the way.

Diner Dash 800 points

Looks good, but not sure if it'll be a little too much like Assualt Heroes for me, as much as I really loved both of those game(1 & 2) I think I've had enough of them now, looks very similar to the second one to me.

Will try the demo anyway, if it's 800 points then maybe.

[EDIT]It will indeed be 800 points Alien Breed Evolution Release Date Announced - Xbox

Although not quite sure what to make of the Episode 1 part
