Splosion Man

Doesn't seem to be much talk about this on this board. I've heard a lot of positive things about the game and the guys from the CO OP show sounded impressed with it. Anyway, i think it's out tomorrow and a couple of decent reviews here

Re: Splosion Man

Yeah, getting some pretty good reviews this one and does look good, the challenge of those tough sounding later levels scares me a bit though, will try the demo and see

Decent 800 point games are always up for consideration, The Maw was a cracking little game at 800 points so good to see another quality release at the same price from these guys, wonder if they'll include a premium theme and gamerpics with the purchase again as they did with The Maw.

Just like The Maw, they'll include gamerpics and a theme.

Just played the trial, so far so good.

Yep, just unlocked the first gamerpic, was a bit doubtful about this game but upon trying the demo it was an instant unlock, cracking little game, Twisted Pixel really are really coming into their own on XBLA.

Highly recommend everyone reading this to at very least give the trial a whirl

Re: Splosion Man

Gave the trial a whirl and enjoyed it whilst i was playing. Now 30mins have past and looking back on my time on it i think i could get bored with just exploding my self all the time. Is there any other advantages to buying the full game i.e can you character do additional stuff (not just jump higher)?

Once you get over the novelty of exploding, it's effectively a combination jump/attack button, and the underlying puzzle-platformer gameplay shines through. And it's pretty good. Every level I played through last night, and I did the first 12 or so, introduced at least one interesting new feature, so it certainly looks to be varied enough on that front.

My only concern is that it's already getting challenging (although nowhere near as bad as the stuff I'm stuck on in N+ around the halfway mark) and the time-trial par times are insanely tight. So 'completing' is isn't going to be easy.

Yeah played some local co-op with my mate last night and we ended up turning the game of as we were finding it really hard and frustrating the further we got into it. Once we got passed 1-13, that was enough. Lost track at the number of tries that bit at the end of that level took. It's a great co-op game though due to requiring good communication and co-ordination. I am sure we will revist it soon.

I am on 2-5 on the single player. I was stuck on the first boss for ages and now glad to be passed it on onto regular levels.

Post sounds negative but I love the game. Dreading what the later levels are like given the difficulty of the early ones.

I'm stuck on the first boss now and you're right, he is tough! Infact I'm already struggling a fair bit so dread to think how far I'll get, happy they included a level skip for each time you've died ten times on a level(I've seen that message screen quite a few times already ).

Must confess I usually run away from tough games but there is something compelling about Sposion Man that seems to keep me coming back, it is very satisfying and rewarding when everything suddenly clicks and you get past the part you've been stuck on.

BTW, wonder what the Avatar unlockables will be that are also included in the game along with the Theme and Gamerpics, not long to wait now, maybe a flaming hair style, obviously won't see those until August 11th.

Yeah I found the missile phase easy enough it was the lasers I struggled with, wasn't sure how I was suposed to avoid them and damage the boss. It's all down to timing with bouncing off the walls onto the moving platforms then over to 'Splode in his face! It's a very classic videogame boss, seems near impossible at first but once you get the timing and the pattern down it becomes easy. I am sure I could go back now and beat him without too much trouble.

YouTube - splosion man first boss

That video helped a lot. That guy has some mad 'Splosion Man skills.

That's when the new dashboard update is out. Which is bringing the avatar marketplace.

Thanks for that Resarf, got him second attempt after watching that video

So where is everyone at with this now? I'm on 2-12 and there've been a few levels that have almost had me pulling my hair out already!

Fantastic level design but damn some of the levels could do with a couple more checkpoints, most of the time they're well placed but other times you seem to need endless pin point timing to get through.

Already worrying about the next boss who I guess should be along in a level or two

Re: Splosion Man

I played this for the first time over the weekend.

I thought it was really decent, maybe a little repetitive, but from the comments on here it seems to get a little more diverse as you progress after the trial version.

I played local co op and found it funny but tough aswell.

I think i'll be purchasing this with two mates, so it should be carnage!

Re: Splosion Man

Just completed the single player game(have been playing nothing but since downloading it), credits are hillarious!

You unlock hardcore mode upon completion but I think the very honest warning is quite enough to put me off even attempting that achievement

Oh, and here's the free premium theme that also unlocks on completing the single player for those that are curious, I quite like it, has replaced my old The Maw one now.

Re: Splosion Man

Just watchd the Trailer and IGN review and I have to say it looks like a little bit of me. I didn't make the connection that this was also a twisted pixel game till now, I loved Maw (still need to go back to it actually) so thats my mind made up about taking a punt on this.

I'll be getting Marvel VS Capcom this evening too. Seems like Arcade Games are the flavour of the month at the minute for me. Strange as I have never really been into them before.

EDIT: just saw Lee's post. Great effort on finishing it mate, Premium Theme looks great.

Re: Splosion Man

I loved every minute of the game(despite some hair tearing frustration in places), the demo levels do make it seem it might get a bit boring and repetative after a few levels but far from it, level design is just fantastic IMO, very imaginagtive and varied, I think this has been my favourite arcade game to date(right up there with Switchball), 10/10, especially considering price and all the freebies included!

Went through a few of the co-op levels last night(there are 50 of them apparently) and they were also great, would like to try with 4 players as that will just be inasane! Plenty to go back to yet

I really enjoyed playing the trial, I had a grin on my face all the way through.

The little touches like when you leave him and he does kung-fu punches, or juggles, or when he runs like an ape. Having the 'splosion power has given him a sheer, manic insanity that makes him hilarious.

Re: Splosion Man

I ended up purchasing this last night and i think its quality.

The thing with it is that its simple to look at, but its actually pretty diverse the further ive got and im only past the first 10 levels.

Theres alot to conquer also which adds to the value for money side of things. Has anyone actually completed the hardcore mode on here?

The theme does look good aswell so i will look forward to getting that!

Re: Splosion Man

Now this game is a little gem, a fusion of new-skool graphics will old style classic platform play.

The major twist for me is the perspectives on the game zooming/in out depending on how much of the level you need to see to complete the puzzle.

It is more than just jumping, later in the game after the demo levels you start picking up fat scientists to use them ..... avoid spoiling it for you now! Missiles start appearing and all sorts of cannons etc. etc.

I am on that boss in the video below - still yet to finish but really really like this game.

Not even tried the multiplayer yet! So plenty of value in the single player alone.

Strongly recommend to anyone just trying the demo at least!
