Magic The Gathering

Cant see a thread for this game so...

Out of the 3 titles released this week Ive enjoyed the demo of this the most. Im just wondering for anyone whos played it, how does it compare to the actual card game? Before i hit the unlock button i was hoping to find some reviews but cant yet. Ive been thinking about getting that eye of judgment on ps3 for a while so wondering how this compares to that. Anyone?

Also is it likely theyll charge for dlc, extra decks or anything or is everything youre going to need here already?

Anyway looks like a good game to me. But ive never played a card game before so i need a 2nd opinion

Re: Magic The Gathering

I bought it already, and I've not played magic for many many years. My only concern is that they'll milk this like the card game with boosters and new overpowered card packs for years to come.

That said, it's very good, although the music is utter tripe and way too short, and the delays inbetween phases get *really* annoying, especially when it's clear that no-one can do anything.

Re: Magic The Gathering

Yeah, got to agree, it is quite fun.. I'm really concerned that online play will get hammered when new card packs get released. There are already options in the game for 'redeeming' codes, so you know it'll happen.

Top tip: if you are having trouble with the campaign, you can unlock new cards for your decks by playing 'Custom Duel', which allows you to 'tweak' the starting position.

Re: Magic The Gathering

Im a bit confused on how to unlock cards. I unlocked one in campaign mode even though i lost the game and i played a game in custom duel which i won but didnt unlock anything. *shrug* Really enjoying the game though its a lot of fun. I think i'll enjoy it most now before any addons get released cos then i'll be disadvantaged over people that have the addons if i dont...

Also, picked up my free Garruck Wildspeaker card and free deck from local games shop. Might even give the real game a try at some point. I think thats what they want. To get you hooked on buying the real cards...

Re: Magic The Gathering

The only thing stopping this game from being amazing is not being able to create your own decks from scratch. That's one of the most appealing parts of the real card game (which I'm getting back into now after a 4 year break) to me. This is why I haven't bought this game. The trial looks very promising. Gameplay is seemingly as well mapped out as is possible. I'm very impressed with it.

If they were to charge for new sets as DLC I'd pay for them, if I had the custom deck option. This is very close to being brilliant but is too restrictive for an experienced player. Open it up and I'll buy it instantly

It's a shame that it wasn't more accesable for new players. Given I've played a lot before it was fairly easy to get used to and the tutorial was just there to learn button mappings really.

Also, anyone who wanted to pick up their promo card for buying this game, stocks look to be very limited. My local store is getting them in on Thursday. He's only getting 40 in and has already had about 25 come in asking for them. I'm surprised they're putting such a powerful card as a promo. It's well worth getting. And if anyone bought the game and doesn't want the card, feel free to send it my way

I keep forgetting about the card... Been a very long time since I played the real version. I consistently got beaten, and still do on the xbox version. God knows how long it'll take to get to 10 wins on live...

(I'm truskill 2 now, bloody ell).

Well, if you wanted I could pick up the card for you and post it on over. There's a shop in my town, so it'd be no problem. It just depends on stock levels. If you wanted to do it, just get signed up using your code and send the attached html file in the e-mail you get to me with your address and it'll be yours

It might be worth calling ahead. The owner of my local store said he's not getting them in until Thursday

FR Sent - could do with some non-moaney people to play on live.

Had some awesome Blue vs Green games today (AI), one took an hour, and was very close.

Re: Magic The Gathering

FR sent,

Was playing co-op two headed giant with my mate as his house last night.
Great strategizing together, Also unlocked my last blue card, kind of disappointing as i thought it would have been a legendary card.

Great game, won't be on till wed night and I'll prob spend most of my time playing red faction as i just got it back.

But if your on give me a bell and i'll have a game or two,

Hopefully get me a couple more towards the "win 10 live matches"

Given I bought a real version of Lost Cities yesterday, to go with my physical versions of Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket To Ride and Uno, they might well be on to something with that plan.

Shame the tutorial is almost entirely concerned with teaching Magic players how to work the computer version, rather than imparting any knowledge of how I should get into it as a noob...

Re: Magic The Gathering

Yeah, we should get a 3 play match going.

I had one with two americans one night, Both ganged up on me and slagged me for being Irish!

Back in my full time geek days i tried paper magic but when playing 3 player matches there was a rule that you could only attack the player with the highest life. worked pretty well.

Re: Magic The Gathering

Was playing a bit at the wkend (ok not really the wkend more Monday as it was National Riot day here) in between "COD WAW Zombie Madness" and "1 Vs 100".

I was playing co-op with my mate who was over but we kept getting beat. We also had alot of crashes so at the loading match screen.

So big apology to everyone on my friends list getting the constant DieEasySteve is online pop up.

Give me a bell tomorrow night and well set up a game.

Sweet, would be good. Will be out tomorrow though, going to a gig.

Definitely up for playing online now - I've only got three decks left to complete.

I have no idea how you win with the Green+Blue+Black deck, seems impossible.

Got all the cards unlocked now. It really keeps the good cards until later. Co-op campaign is looking very tricky as you can't use your unlocked cards for the second person, which is utter rubbish.

Still playing this online - good stuff. It's just a pity so many people quit when they are about to lose. Anyone one know if it still registers the win & loss?

Not sure, I've read some reports that it does still give you the win.
I have be lucky enough not to have anyone quit early on me (prob because I suck) so I can confirm.

Best way to check is see if you have unlocked a new card!

This is a cracking game I'm loving it. Is anyone here still playing it? It's really hard to get a four player game with decent people. Feel free to add me as a friend if you want a game, want to learn how to play or want help with getting 100%. Isn't it about time for more DLC?

Love this game.
Used to play it years ago for real, spent all my money on cards.
It's great having it on Live, and the animations are cool.
