Black thumbnails on AVI files

I've noticed recently my AVI video files all have black thumbnails.

I have Vista HP with SP1, I use the CCCP codec pack, and also have Nero Burning ROM and Nero Vision from Nero 8 installed.

I recently wiped my PC and did a clean install of Vista again, and the problem has been happening ever since.

I tried uninstalling CCCP then re-installing it, no luck.

Also I ran the Disk Cleanup Wizard, used it to delete all thumbnails, but then when I went to a folder with videos, they simply had no thumbnail at first then after a few seconds Windows re-created a black thumbnail again!

Any ideas?

Re: Black thumbnails on AVI files

Sorted it - Nero 8 is the culprit.

1) Run cmd.exe as admin
2) Type regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\DSFilter\NeMP4Splitter.ax"
3) Run Disk Cleanup and delete all thumbnails

Re: Black thumbnails on AVI files

Don't know how you managed to sort your problem in 6 minutes but thanks. I had exactly the same issue and your fix worked perfectly. I now have a wall of lovely thumbnails again instead of useless black tiles.
thanks again.
