thanks for the suggestions. i was thinking along the same lines. I have some super-quiet fans, but couldn't figure out where to mount them. Isn't the top vent space already taken up by the CPU fan? Is it possible to mount a fan just behine the PCI cards (next to the card reader board)?
I also thought about cutting holes in the top lid, but on the silver case (i dunno about the black one) there is another metal plate in between. i would have to punch holes in there too and align the two holes. Any easy way to do that

Regarding the DVI port; on the silver case (in US) the DVI port is through an ADD2 card, it's not on the chassis. and it works automatically. Even onboard DVI port should be automatically detected (meaning both VGA and DVI should be live all the time). Are you having the black case?

My second request regarding the SDHC card reader.

I have windows 7 ultimate installed. It automatically updated the drivers for the card reader, but doesn't recognise any SDHC cards (SD cards having capacity 4GB and higher). In device manager it reads "Generic USB storage-SDC USB device" and the driver is a default microsoft driver version 6.1.7600.16385.

Anyone having luck reading SDHC cards in their unit with windows 7? Can you tell me the name of the SD card reader controller or the driver version?

thanks.

I have MCE 2005 installed, but have never installed any specific driver for it, and Aopen don't provide one. I think the MS one is the only one. I believe SDHC uses different hardware addressing to SD, so it's likely that you can't add the SDHC capability just by updating the drivers. This PC is now a good few years old.

Oh yes, I forgot about the big thick brace that runs from front to back. I'm wondering about putting a grid of holes in the lid, aligned with a rectangle cut from the brace. I might just take a chance on using the drill, after taping over any seams that could trap the bits.

Yes, mine's the GT one in the black case. It has onboard DVI, and I can't get it to do anything. I know the monitor and cable are fine, as I use DVI with the graphics card I'm currently using. I'm trying to use the onboard to save power (and heat!). Anyone please tell me how to get this thing to work.

But I'm sure my TV cards are suffering from heatstroke. They are both getting very hot, in fact it's been playing up recently and I'm currently running it without the lid and brace to check whether heat is the cause.

You were dead on with that. This is the reply I got from Aopen just a little while ago.

In response of this issue, we would like to inform you that Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) is unable to read in your ePC card reader. Products designed exclusively support SD specification 1.0 and 1.1 will not able to utilize SDHC cards. SDHC will not work in devices design to the older SD 1.x specification. For more information, see the given link below.

Secure Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However, you can see on your manual or online manual below regarding support flash memory for your card reader.

I think i have a different version to you guys as my DVI is on the ADD2 card and only VGA is avaliable on the mainboard. I use HDMI from a low profile ati card now anyway.

i have the GT version of the Aopen system. Very pleased with it running Vista, hardly ever gives me a problem these days (very quiet too). Really want to install W7 and take advantage of DVB-S and HD channels.

waiting on BlackGold to release their new dual DVB-S/T tuner - although not even sure if room in my machine for it.

concerned processor (core duo) may not be up to the job.

Will be watching this thread to see how people get on with upgrades ...etc

Aopen EPC945-M8

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help.
I have come in to posession of one of these, but for some reason, the motherboard front panel connector has been cut. Do you know which coloured cables from the front panel go to which pins on the motherboard connector? - very grateful if anyone can help....

That looks like a real good case for being a MC PC. I like the fact it comes with the MCE remote and IR receiver!

I have a T2500 (2.0GHz core duo) CPU in my system and an Asus 9400GT graphics card. I use a Silicon Dust HDHomerun for ClearQAM HDTV. Works great. Running Vista Ultimate (alas... with no VFD drivers...)
