windows xp freezing

windows xp freezing

hey new to this forum, mate at work recommended it to me,
need some help i'm having some problems with my pc atm, it boots fine and runs windows with no problem but after a little while it just stops completely with no warning, what im running is a kn1 sli mother board running 32bit xp pro and have a gig of ram, what i think is happening is that it seems to just stop reading the harddrive/ the hard drive stops running. can anyone help??

A gig of RAM ? Are you sure it has frozen and not just stuck on the hourglass due to the CPU being maxed out ?
Have you tried opening up Task manager and the processes tab to see what is using up resources ? (open up on boot and leave it running)

Do you have an external USB hard drive or a CD/DVD burner?

If so I'd make a backup of the data you need to keep and consider wiping XP and install something more modern like a recent version of Linux.

It's either that or upgrade your PC.

Well i think i have sorted it added another gig of ram and so far it seems to be running ok fingers crossed. Would update to Linux but not sure on how to use it

If you're a newbie to Linux then Ubuntu would be best. It's come on a long way since the early days and the latest Ubuntu is probably as easy to use as Windows.
