Help! Post XP repair problems - cant update, live hotmail wont open
Hi there,
After around 6 full days of formatting - reformatting due to dogdy memory stick, i did a repair on XP to refresh the system files and hopefully solve all the problems casued by memory stick.
But...... for some reason, it wont download/install from updates, never had this before, i have tried every fix i could find, got all the latest download installers and Net framework, but no joy.....
As a byproduct, i cant get MS live mail to work on desktop, i need this after i went to sky BB as outlook would no longer work. it installs, when i try to open it the icon appears on the taskbar but wont open at all.....
Any help would be good, im so fed up with it all now!

try this
Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
restart and try the updates again.

ok, tried it mate, no luck....... updates wanted SP3 installed but the download keeps failing - let alone installing....darn!

I had the same problem when i tried to restore XP from Norton Ghost, after the restore it would not accept any updates.
In the end had to reformat and re-install....... that fixed it.

Try downloading the SP3 update manually from the Microduff web site. See if that makes any difference.
