Vista 64 Bit compatibility question

Hi,

I have just ordered a new Dell Studio XPS with Intel Core i7 920 processor and 4 gb of ram.

I have noticed this weekend that it comes with Vista Home Premium SP1 64Bit. I have read all sorts of horror stories about Vista 64 (I still use XP Media Centre). I have done some searching for feedback over the weekend on Vista x64 and it appears many are having problems with compatibility.

I use my PC for web browsing, word processing, iTunes, video editing and photo editing, but not gaming.

The primary software I use is:
Firefox
iTunes
Picasa 3
Photoshop Elements 6
AVG free edition
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum (not go this yet - but plan to)
It comes with Microsoft Works 9 (so I assume this works with Vista 64 ok)

The primary hardware I use is:
Netgear ADSL wireless router
A Canon 450D SLR camera
A Sony HDR-TG3 AVCHD camcorder
An Epson Stylus Photo RX620 printer / scanner
and a couple of Lacie external hard drives

Would anybody know whether I may experience any compatibility issues with any of the above with Vista 64bit.

I have tried looking at the Microsoft Vista compatibility web site - but much of the above just says "Unknown".

I am a little concerned that my shiny new PC will not run or work with the software / hardware I use day in day out.

Thanks
Sheks

Re: Vista 64 Bit compatibility question

It should be fine. I run a mish mash of 32 & 64 bit application. Hell even my 5 year old printer has x64 drivers!

Re: Vista 64 Bit compatibility question

Unless your kit is VERY old it should work with Vista 64.
From your list.
Firefox = Vista 64bit available
iTunes = Vista 64bit available
Picasa 3 = ?
Photoshop Elements 6 = ?
AVG free edition = Vista 64bit available
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum (not go this yet - but plan to) = go to site and check
It comes with Microsoft Works 9 (so I assume this works with Vista 64 ok)

The primary hardware I use is:
Netgear ADSL wireless router = Vista 64bit OK
A Canon 450D SLR camera = Vista 64bit should be no problem
A Sony HDR-TG3 AVCHD camcorder = Vista 64bit should be no problem
An Epson Stylus Photo RX620 printer / scanner = can not see this printer on the Epson site so could be a problem but Vista does have an extensive range of drivers far more than XP.
and a couple of Lacie external hard drives = Vista 64bit should be no problem

Anyone else running Vista x64 with Picasa 3 and Photoshop Elements 6 successfully?

Re: Vista 64 Bit compatibility question

I run Picasa 3 with absolutely no probs using Vista 64. I wouldn't worry about the 64-bit issue to be honest. If a program isn't specifically for 64 bit OS it just installs as a 32 bit program. I've been using Vista 64 since it came out and can't think of any problems I've had.

Re: Vista 64 Bit compatibility question

All 32 bit software will run on a 64 bit system without issue. Software wise you have no problems. I'd check all my device drivers to be honest.

Re: Vista 64 Bit compatibility question

Resurrect an old thread.

Vegas Plat Pro 9 will install and edit fine on Vista 64

It just crashes everytime you try to render

Works fine on £500 version
