Grey letterbox in WMP11

Help please!

Vista HP is driving me potty. I've got the media centre video library crash problem (which i've heard today is related to Nero so i'll try that tonight).

I could live with that until i sort it except for the fact that when i play a video from the desktop using WMP 11 in full screen the letter box is grey instead of black. All other areas in the video and on the desktop are black where they're meant to be and the same videos played through media centre (when it works) have black letterboxes.

I can't find anywhere to adjust this and it's boiling my waters!

Anyone got any thoughts? I'm using the latest CCCP codec pack by the way but i have tried various other ones.
