Broken Vista Media Center - Xvix/Divx

I just tried to watch a video via my 360 media center extender, however its freezing when going into the target folder, where the Extender creates thumbnails... It then crashes out to a "Connection Terminated" - Do you want to reconnect prompt. I thought Id try it using my PC, same thing, except when it freezes it craps out with an "application error.. media center restarting". It only happens with files that are encoded with Xvix and Divx.

This was working a treat a few days ago, obviously MS have decided to do the dirty and trash any kind of divx/xvid interaction...

Has anyone else had this same issue?

Re: Broken Vista Media Center - Xvix/Divx

Found what the problem was... Had to reinstall the Divx codec.

Hi Glenagoolie
You need FFDshow tryouts to play DIVX/XVIDHere Install & run the config. You shouldn't need to alter any settings.

Re: Broken Vista Media Center - Xvix/Divx

I thought that just works for Vista. Does it work for the extender as well ?

Im with you mate divx/xvid dont work through media center expander you do need TVersity,TVersity re-encodes the xvid on the fly and works quite well.

Re: Broken Vista Media Center - Xvix/Divx

If you're running Vista Home Premuim or Ultimate and using a 360 as a media Center extender then I'd recommend forgetting tversity...

And instead use transcode 360 to transcode and stream any video files (XviD, VOB's etc etc) to the extender inside the Media Center interface...
