Getting my Sky Box to work with Media Player

Hi,

This is my first post on your forums, I have been reading through your previous posts and hope that someone has the knowledge and time to help with my problem. I have read previous threads but unfortunatly they have not solved my problems. Part of my problem is that i am not familiar with alot of the jargon and abriviations being used.

i am attempting to take the signal from my skybox through my PC card (AVerMedia Hybrid TV Tuner card, A16C(DVB-T/PAL/SECAm/FM)) using a Composite Video & Audio to Scart Cable Kit similar to this.

It seems i am banging my head off a brick wall. Media Centre will not recognise the signal being sent from the TVout scart socket on my sky box to my PC. The Sky box definately works and the normal VHF line works on my PC Card.

Is there a setting on the sky box or PC card i need to change? Do I have the wrong cable?

Can anyone help because i am getting very frustrated. I have tried kicking my skybox and my my desktop but that didn't help either.

If its at all important, my desktop is a Sony VAIO RC-204.

Can anyone help ?

Dave

Re: Getting my Sky Box to work with Media Player

I assume you have read the very detailed sticky threads on this issue?

It seems the main problem you have is that you are using a DVB-T PC card. There are various versions of PC TV tuners, but the T stands for Terrestrial Digital, i.e. Freeview. To be able to use MCE for Sky you can either use a card designed for analogue transmission and take an S-Video feed from the Sky box or go the more complicated route using a card designed for satellite (DVB-S) and then get all the various decryption add-ons.

In either case there is quite a bit you need to do with respect to setting up EPGs and driving the Sky box with an IR signal conrolled by MCE.

The analogue route is easier, but S-Video is the best video quality you will obtain which will not really give you a quality viewing experience.

Good luck!

Mark
