How to edit out the adverts?

Is there any cheep or free software that will let me edit the ads out of the Freeview TV recordings I make with MCE? Both to get shot of the bloody things and save disc space and pack more onto DVD.

I realise this will be a manual process, not just click a 'delete ads' button!

I use CDex to top-and-tail audio recordings - very easy to use. Something similar would be nice :-)

Or is it best to convert to MPEG (is that a lossy process?) first?

Since Hill Street Blues started on More4 I am getting a bit swamped and need to trim where possible.

What do the rest of you do?

TIA

Mark

Not cheap, but 'videoredo' has an 'ad-detector' and can work on MCE recordings or MPEG.

You might also want to look at dCut which is free plug-in for MCE

TVM stuartmc, I'll test-drive that one too. I'm going to be busy this weekend :-)

Be interesting to see if/how usable they are over a Remote Desktop Connection to the MCE box (I'd rather work at my computer desk on a pin-sharp 1280x1024 display than a fuzzy 800x600 TV).

Might be worth hooking a 100MB ethernet cable rather than use the 11g... Will report back.
