Using Hauppauge 150MCE without MCE

Hi,

I have been successfully using my MCE150 card with Media Center 2005 for some time now.

I have recently attempted to "copy" my old videos to DVD using the MCE computer. I disconnected my SKY box from the inputs on the back of the MCE card and connected my Video Player input. I decided not to use the MCE software to capture the video as you only seem to be able to do that using the guide or by specifying start and end times. I purchased a copy of Easy Media Creater however I do not seem to be able to capture the video. I can see the video in the preview however as soon as I click on the capture button, the application crashes out with no error. Just shuts down. I borrowed a copy of the Pinnacle software from a friend of mine and it does the same sort of thing in a slightly different way. As soon as I select the input that the Video Player is connected to it closes the application.

Does anyone know if the MCE150 is ONLY designed to work with MCE or if it should work with 3rd party apps too. If not, any ideas what the problem may be? If yes, can someone recommend a good TV card to replace my MCE150 with that will allow me to use both MCE and 3rd Party Apps? (not at the same time I understand)

Thanks
Warren

ok, firstly,

go to task manager, and close all process starting with eh*
this is because they are all mce processes, and media center likes to have exclusive access to the card.

secondly, in whatever capturing program you want to use (including windows movie maker which is probably on your hard drive already) makes sure your capture settings are set to capture an mpeg2 file, and NOT an avi, divx or variant thereof. The pvr150 will pass mpeg2 to the capturing program, so it should expect that.

The crd works fine outside mce, as well as in capturing programs etc, no need for panic:-)

Thanks for the quick reply.

If I try and capture using Windows Movie Maker, I cannot select the sound capture device as the MCE150 card. I only get the option of using my onboard sound card or my Dolby Digital sound card. The audio is coming in on the MCE150 card along with the video. I get the same problem when I capture in Easy Media Creator along with no picture... just a black screen. In PowerDirector I can capture the video, but as soon as I click on STOP capture, the application crashes out....

Any further ideas??

Many thanks

You have to capture the audio through the PVR150 or you will get a lip synch problem.

Thanks. I am trying to do that, but I cannot select the PVR150 as an audio device in either Easy Media Creator or in Windows Movie Maker. I can only select my onboard audio device or my digital sound card. There is no option for the PVR150.

After much messing around... I think there may be an incompatibility between the Hauppauge MCE150 PVR card / driver and third party apps. I uninstalled the MCE specific driver that is on the Hauppauge website for the 150MCE card and installed an older version of the none MCE driver v2.0.30.23070. I can now capture video using Easy Media Creator and Windows Movie Maker (although I still cannot select the sound card as the MCE150!!). However when I now go back to Media Center 2005 it says I do not have a TV tuner card installed! If I change the driver back the other way, then I can use Media Center, but not capture video!! Can anyone confirm if they have managed to get this working for both yet and whether they can get the MCE150 selected as an audio device?

Thanks

Mate, having the same issues as you. All I want to do is transfer something from Sky+ onto DVD via Media Centre. You'd think that would be easy but there's no way to capture video direct (via MyTV it think you are recording a program and stops when that prog ends!) so I tried Movie Maker and captured the video but no sound, Arrrggh. Anyone?
