Question Windows 7 & Vista (x64) RAID & boot problem

I have 2x 1.5 Tb drives set to raid 0

I loaded Win7 (x64) beta, no problem
Tried to load Vista (x64) it won't recognise the drives.

The error message states it's unable to load the Vista (x64)OS on the drives!

Any ideas please?

How have you set up the RAID? What controller are you using? Is it a chipset on your motherboard?

Re: Windows 7 & Vista (x64) RAID & boot problem

are you installing both as a dual boot?
if so do oldest first is the correct way.
So, Do vista & then W7

and just make sure the BIOS is set right and you obviously have drivers for the raid conroller to install

Re: Windows 7 & Vista (x64) RAID & boot problem

drivers sound at fault here. on vista x64 i had to find an ahci driver otherwise it would hang on boot.

Windows 7 seems setup with a lot of additional drivers. check the manufacturer, get the proper raid controller driver / ahci driver. failing that you should be able to select ATA instead of AHCI in the BIOS of your motherboard and it will install no probs, just remember ATA is slower but you can switch it to AHCI once installed (more difficult however).

Chris.

Question Re: Windows 7 & Vista (x64) RAID & boot problem

Thanks for all the replies.

oioldman suggestion of dual boot Vista the win7 worked.

I have however reverted to seperate drives as opposed to raid. I still had problems getting Vista64 to recognise the drives but Win7 was ok. My crude solution was to install Win7 at which point I was able to load Vista64 which could recognise the drives.

I will try raid again when win7 RC is released to the public.

Re: Windows 7 & Vista (x64) RAID & boot problem

w7 will be better, but the issue with vista will stay, as it needs the drivers by the sound of things.
personally, ditch vista and just use w7 and set as raid1 (mirrored) so you have some tolerance (redundancy)
