Yep, it worked finally Had to hook up an old IDE drive to install the 32bit version of win7 though before I could get anything to work. Just pleased it's done. The only good thing I can see with windows 7 is the fact that it goes and get all your drivers for you. Other than that... n:

8gig and a 32bit OS ?

Why ? It only uses 3.5gig doesn't it ?

Windows 7 is alot better than vista, quicker etc. Your problems sound hardware related imo..

did you install Windows 7 on top of Vista or a clean install ?

Yep, 8GB and 32-bit OS is rather pointless.

And ditto, Win 7 is quicker, and just plain better than Vista and I've used them both and it does sound hardware related.

Try reading my posts I've always used 64 bit, but on win7 my BD rom drive screws it all up. I installed 32 bit just to get the PC working again, so I could then reinstall Vista 64 bit.

Vista 64 bit is running much better, windows 7 is in the bin (with 8gb of RAM Vista runs just as quick as win7 in my experience).

It's just possible that the problems are due to overheating. Perhaps Windows 7 is using more power and your machine is borderline on cooling? That could cause all sorts of strange problems if the cpu or ram is running hot.

It is a bit late now if you have reloaded Vista, but you could take a look at temps and see if anything looks high. There's a free util called 'Speedfan' which will show the readouts for you.

If any temps look high, set the fan speeds to be NOT bios controlled and just set on full to see if you can cool down the hardware. (Also of course, check all vents and heatsinks aren't dusty.)

Cooling wasn't the issue, I did check this and all was normal. Windows7 is currently fulfilling another purpose in life, as a coaster
